Called MIT and Harvard yesterday; they said invites won’t be sent until after the holidays. Harvard said they may start sending around Jan 13 and if nothing comes through by Jan 20, then it’s likely you were not admitted.

@dobetter1, which programs?

I was invited to Berkeley Plant and Microbial Biology (PMB) today (with a phone call) and UWisc-Madison Bacteriology (last week).

Please tell me someone’s heard from UW Seattle?

congrats to ones who got interviews so early!! i’m wondering whether anyone received interviews from berkeley or stanford neuro? i got interview from ucsf neuro and i’m guessing that berkeley is coming soon.

This is so stressful. Checking my email like crazy. Has anyone heard from UPenn yet?

@dobetter1: Thanks for the news on Harvard. I was hoping invites may be sent out this month, but that is to be expected given the number of applications they have to go through.

@neuromatt, I applied to MIT Biology and Harvard BBS.
@archer, I was hoping Harvard and MIT would send emails/make calls before the holidays as well… gotta finalize some travel plans for interviews by Jan 3 with other schools… eek!

@dobetter

The scheduling process is making me nervous. What am I going to do about my coursework next semester?? I’m going to be away almost every weekend, if things continue to go well…

Anybody else do kinda crappy this semester because of application stress/time management issues? My GPA is going to take a little beating.

@isobelarcher, Yeah dude, I’ve been wondering how I’m gonna break it to my PI that I’ll be a lot of work… he did write a recc so I think he should have seen it coming??? One of my friends applied to Chem PhD programs last year and missed two whole months of school senior spring…

I’m hoping my profs are going to be understanding, but I’m not counting on it. For some reason they started pummeling me hard with excess coursework last semester…

They called it “hazing”, I called it *****baggery.

bionerdy…what program at weill? thanks

Yeah. I applied to nine schools, but only received one invite from UNC-CH. I already planned to go on Jan 26-27th, which leaves Harvard BBS in Feb if i get an invite. I am not counting on Yale or JHU BCMB since some invites were sent out already. I am more doubtful I would receive an invite anyway given my stats (see previous post).

I heard from Mayo because they had a couple questions on my application. I was thinking they might send out invites this week, but it seems that is not the case.

Don’t give up yet, Archer. You may get waitlisted, or you may still get accepted without an invite.

@secondtry99, I think he’s gotten an invite at Cornell, not Weill Cornell. Weill Cornell hasn’t sent out invites yet.

At least these interviews are held on the weekends. If it was during days when I had lab, I would be screwed. Fortunately, my semesters consisting of labs are over. My schedule is pretty light: Online statistics course, physics (Lab-friday, but can change to weds if necessary), and immunology (lab - tuesday), and senior project.

@isobelarcher I also had time management difficulties since I was a T/A for biochem, but my gpa was not really affected. My problem was getting the personal statement just right for “each program.”

Do senior year grades even count toward admission??

My overall GPA is 3.8 right now, and I’m guessing it’ll dip to 3.65 or so. But does anyone care? I’ve heard that most programs ask for just a transcript to prove you graduated at the end of the year.

@isobelarcher Thanks for the cheer up.

By the way, anyone applying to UCF by any chance? I am a Florida resident, so I was curious if anyone applied to any Florida biomedical Ph.D programs?

I am more inclined to think the schools would want to see your transcript to show proof that you graduated.

Yeah, I’m really worried about scheduling next semester. Looking like I’m going to have to leave Thursday morning to get to the east coast on time (Yale’s booking my flight for 6:30am -__-). One of the classes I really want to take has lecture for 2 hours on Friday. Should probably drop it…

:( I’m starting to get worried about UCSF. Is it hopeless for the rest of us?
