2012 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

oh well… maybe there will be another wave of rockefeller acceptances for those of use without 3.95 gpas… haha

also: does Canada count as “international”?

luckynacho,congratulation!
your resume is too great that they love you at first glance.
I think Johns Hopkins is the best choice concerning neuroscience. Although baltimore is not a safe place for Ph.D. study.

Yay! I finally received a call from UWash MCB! Interview in February!

@littlemouse,

Baltimore, and in particular the Johns Hopkins campus, is probably as safe as any other large city campus! Although… I did a little research on the hotel they’re putting me in for my Hopkins interview, and it’s the 6th “spookiest” place in the nation… that’s something to be afraid of haha!

Does anyone know what are the acceptance rates of programs post interviews?
I’m interested in:
Columbia (Coordinated Doctoral Programs @ the med school)
Cornell (BBS)
Northwestern (IGP)

Thanks guys for your advice, very helpful :slight_smile: I sorted things out with columbia and rockefeller (they actually replied to my e-mails :open_mouth: :slight_smile: ) now I have to sort things out with ETS as my general GRE score reports are generally M.I.A. as it seems. I suppose it’s not that bad since they already have the self reported ones to work with until this mess is sorted out. What really bugs me is that one of my recommenders hasn’t sent Albert Einstein his letter yet :frowning: until he does my application won’t even get a glance right?

Happy holidays everyone, all the best! :)

I also have one recommendor who hasn’t sent his letter yet (but to a different school). I am an idiot and didn’t check it right away because he sent me an email saying he had finished sending all the letters. I emailed him a few days ago but I guess he is on vacation until he gets back to teach early Jan. It says on the application status website that they will review my application even if one LOR is not submitted…hopefully it doesn’t hurt me too bad.

Application files status for UPenn: completed on Dec-21st. I submitted my app on Nov-30th, send my transcripts and scores in mid-October, and LORs are submitted before deadline. I dont understand why it took so long to complete my files. UPenn sucks

I had a letter that was about a week late for a school when it was finally submitted and I got a call that night from the school, so I would say don’t worry about it. Plus there is really nothing you can do at this point. I have a late one for Einstein too lol

Apoptosome,

I believe UCSD does rolling interviews; I got mine last year relatively late compared to everyone else. Cal may also have a rolling interview process, but to be fair, I got my interview email before the holiday break.

Hope that helps.

@davexuke Which program at UPenn did you apply to?

@ mobio 2012 I applied to Cell & Molecular Biology

@davexuke I applied there too and it took them a couple of weeks to update supplemental materials on the application as well. I don’t know if they actually need to upload the materials onto the application in order to review it though, if that makes sense.

@people talking about upenn CMB - hopefully this means they haven’t sent out invites yet, which is kinda weird though since the first interview date is jan 13-15

@greenertea: According to the BGS official site:“We will accept GRE scores after December 8 if the rest of the application is complete. However, applications will not be considered until the scores are received. Applicants may email the unofficial results of a computer-based GRE test directly to the admissions coordinator and the graduate group; however, no action may be taken on the application until the official scores are received.” They need official documents in order to initiate the review process. They were having some problem with my GRE scores, and I actually send my score twice to UPenn. Now my material will be considered completed and will be reviewed by the committee members after the holidays.

@goaliejoe: I saw three people received interview invitation from UPenn CBM program on the gradcafe result section.

@goaliejoe
I received an invitation to the January interview for CAMB.

@davexuke
And initially online my GRE scores were marked as not received, but it was sorted out within 24 hours after I sent an email asking about it at the end of November. As soon as that was marked complete, my application online was marked complete as well…

@Orion8,

Thanks pal. That helps.

Happy holidays.

@davexuke and @mobio2012 Shoot. All right thanks guys. Maybe still hope to get one for one of the later dates

@biochem2012
I am now in Baltimore. JHU campus is totally safe but it’s not so safe if you leave the campus. JHU is a great school. I am now in University of Maryland Pharmacy School but since my professor is once a faculty in JHU, she cooperates with the professors in JHU a lot and she can use the lab in JHU. I met with several great professors in neuroscience department when I followed my professor to JHU. They are really erudite and nice. I think your interview will be very pleasant.
