Has anyone heard back from UCLA ACCESS as far as scheduling an interview after the invite?

Seems like they are letting these invites out in a slow trickle as opposed to the “waves” we see with some other schools. Still (sort of) hopeful. :)

Yale BBSB invitations are being sent out. Dates are from 2/9-2/12 which overlaps with my JHU CMDB interview. Have to respond to JHU tomorrow about it. How flexible are schools with these sessions?

ACCESS responded pretty quickly and confirmed my interview date after I told them which date I wanted.

It depends on what the overlap is. If they overlap on the first or last day, that’s fine – those are usually blocked off as traveling days, and you can arrive or leave pretty flexibly. If the overlap is greater than that, you may need to pick another weekend for one of the programs, or pick one of the two interview weekends.

WashU rejection

Hi everyone! Happy New Year, my first time using this forum.
asinine: I’m applying to Yale BBS also, I got a phone call before Christmas, but I still haven’t get an email invitation from them yet! I thought Yale has another interview date from 2-5? I don’t know, I have another interview from UCB on the 5th, I’m really stuck here. Asinine, could you tell me what are their activities on the last day, that is 12th on your schedule? I’m thinking (if eventually they really give out an invitation email to me), maybe I could leave Yale on the 4th midnight. Thanks!

Good luck to all! :)

Hi AliG89:
Seems like WashU rejected a lot of people (I’m one of them). I was applying to their BCMB program, and I received an email from another department asking me if I would like to join. Maybe you would receive one later ;), if you’re really aiming for WashU.
Good Luck!

Thank you for that Pandie, makes me feel a little better. I haven’t heard from another department yet, doubt I will. I’ve got too much swag for WashU anyways. You said that it seems like WashU rejected a lot of people, I’m just wondering what makes you say that?

oh my god the waiting is killing me! luckily i just picked up an obsession for battlestar galactica so i have SOMETHING to do in the meanwhile. you know, besides my job.

does anyone think that there will be another wave of ucsf bms invites or was that it? too scared to call.

Just got the hatchet from Wash U DBBS as well! :-/ Glad it was a free application this year!!

For those of you who received Yale BBS invites, was the invitation sent by the department-based tracks or open program?

If you haven’t gotten a UCSF BMS invite, you are most likely rejected and we will find out within the next week or two.

I am rejected too.

oh god. it’s so scary to wait. I haven’t heard from any other school that I applied for recently. I am trying to comfort myself by thinking that it’s just the beginning of January and invitations will come after a few days. It’s so hard to wait and I dare not to call the schools to ask about that. I hate waiting.

^Littlemouse. What schools did you apply to?

Hey everyone,

So I am growing anxious waiting for replies, and I just wanted to figure out which schools I should strike off my list. I applied to the following (I applied for molecular biology for all schools):

UCLA ACCESS
Berkeley
Irvine
Columbia
Texas
UT Houston
USC
Northwestern
NYU Sackler
UVa

I have only heard back from UVa. I went to UCLA and majored in Microbio, Immuno, Mol Gen (all one major) with a 3.15. I started out pretty bad…2.7 in my lower div science classes, but got a 3.4 in upper divs (I don’t know if schools even differentiate between these). I worked in a Mol Bio lab during undergrad for about 1.5 years culminating in a 3rd author minor paper currently in submission. Also, I have been doing prostate cancer research at the school of medicine at UCLA for over a year, and have my name on two abstracts.

With all that being said, which schools should I assume I have been rejected from, and which schools that are left do you think I still have a legitimate chance of being accepted to? Thanks for the help, and good luck to everyone!

^

Is 3.15 GPA your cumulative GPA or major GPA? What are your GRE scores? Did you take the subject test?

I’d look at Irvine, UCLA, USC, and NYU as prospects… Can’t speak for the other schools (except Berkeley might be out of your reach). Irvine CMB and UCLA ACCESS sent out interview invites in December. Supposedly there’s another wave coming this week for Irvine. Not sure about UCLA.

@Bunyabum
I have received invitations from cornell and columbia. I didn’t heard back from NYU or Albert Einstein college. some people have received invitations from those two so I think I may be rejected.
I also haven’t heard anything from other schools like northeastern, tufts, brown, etc. the deadline of application for those schools is Dec.15. I hope they are still reviewing applications and haven’t sent out any invitation yet.
I want to stay around new york so I just applied for some schools in new york state or around boston.

@ littlemouse
while this may or maynot help you, I know Tufts-Sackler invites went out last week for the genetics program, and today for ISP(Biochemistry; Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology; and Cellular and Molecular Physiology)

No idea about the other Tufts/Tufts-Sackler programs or if they are done.

@littlemouse

Someone said NYU Sackler does rolling interview invites so don’t lose hope yet! lol
