Also got UCSF CCB last night! Maybe I’ll see you there flutterfly_28!

And just a general question, what happens if a program only has one interview date and I can’t make it? I’m asking because although I haven’t gotten an invite from Stanford yet, I already knew when I was applying that, if I do manage to get an interview with them, their interview weekend won’t work out for me. Do they usually let you come some other time or do phone interviews if you have a legitimate reason why you can’t be there?

I have a question, what if a program sends out invites by phone but I’m not able to answer it? (I’m out of country) Will they contact me by E mail?

for some reason… i feel like stanford won’t be as accommodating as other schools with the interview weekends. they make it pretty clear on their website that they only have ONE interview weekend and phone interviews MAY be considered for international students where a visit may not be possible… i would inquire about it anyway though if you get an interview… can’t hurt.

@looong
Can you access your voicemail by dialing in? I wouldn’t rely on them sending an email. Does your voicemail message at least mention that you’re out of the country?

i don’t know what the policy (if there is one) is at different schools, but when princeton called me for an interview i missed the call (they left a voicemail), then called them back 30 minutes later and no one answered so i left them a voicemail…they called me the next day but i was on a plane so they left me a voicemail again but they also sent me an email with all the interview details saying “sorry we haven’t been able to reach you by phone yet.” i’m not sure if this is how every place does it but i feel like most places would email you if they haven’t been able to reach you by phone.

thank you virons and mufamuscles
My voicemail greeting is the standard one and I don’t think I can change it without actually using the phone in the US.
But I did set up to have my voicemails forwarded to google voice. So theoretically I can still get messages.
Edit: The experiment was successful, i was able to get a voicemail from my friend in the US by checking google voice. I guess i can call them back using skype if anyone leaves me a message.

Unless you have strong, personal reasons for preferring otherwise, stay with a current student when you’re given the option! Not only will you have an additional source for answers to your questions, you’ll also have somebody to take you out to do fun things. :)

Request a personal visit (or phone interview, though I highly suggest seeing a school in person). Stanford granted such requests for my friends when they couldn’t make Stanford’s one interview weekend.

I totally hear some of you. I am getting very worried especially after reading on GradCafe that people have heard back from MIT and here, Stanford! Yikes!
I applied to the Cancer Biology program at Stanford. Has anyone heard back from them?

And it seems like only the neuro track people have heard back from Harvard, not the rest. So we can still keep our hopes high.
Good luck everyone! ;)

When you say Harvard Neuro are you talking about this “0955 Molecules, Cells and Organisms:Cellular, Neuro- and Developmental Biology” within MCB or are you talking about something else?

rocafella: My son also received an interview invitation from stanford genetics yesterday. From what I know, only six students were admitted into the program last year.

No call at 2pm - I’m paranoid as well, haha.

And green genes - I got that UCSD invite just now as well - you must be about 30 minutes before me in alphabetical lists or something cause I always get them after you… Lol

Edit: I may or may not have thought you and greener tea were the same person, and just had a ton of interviews…
