2012 Parents

Any 2012 parents out there? We remember well the mix of emotions we had a year ago today and during BCT. There’s a lot of people on this forum and Famnet to help you through.

It appears the Association of Graduates is “encouraging” parents to join the AOG to get full acess to webguy on the AOG website. My thought it’s worth it - it’ll help to keep you “connected” during BCT.

The AOG was very helpful in providing an escorted tour for my elderly and somewhat frail parents within the cadet area, and provided us tickets for graduation in late May when we were out there visiting our cadet. They also support a number of programs for the cadet wing that are not funded by the federal government.

The online store for the AOG also sells squadron pins which are popular. It shouldn’t be long before you’ll know what squadron your son or daughter will be in for their 4 dig academic year. We brought about 20 last year for friends and faimily.

I joined and already it has been worth it for my DH and I. We put our appointee on the plane yesterday and her B&B sponsor picked her up. I was able to see some pictures of her yesterday after she arrived at the Academy waiting for her sponsor. She was SMILING! Whatever the cost it has already been worth it to me just to see that smile.
Thanks for all of the support that y'all have provided. It greatly reduced the number of surprises for us during this whole process.

I sure hope web guy is not going to limit access to those not members. I can understand charging but I still hope he won't charge. It's a VERY nice thing he does.

I think I heard this discussion ad infinitum on the parents yahoo group. It is a spectacular thing that Marty does, and it takes a lot of effort. It is not free to the AOG and they are not some AF funded program. The membership is how they survive. It is well worth the 180.00 and probably much more. I say that having been unable to spot a single picture of Potter in last years galleries. Well there is one on I-day, but that is of all of us.

I'm a 2012 mom. I took my S to the airport yesterday morning. Though I was sad, I managed to keep up a strong front. I know that he wanted it that way.

Right before he turned off his phone today he sent me a text message: "Thank you for everything Mom. I love you." I finally let the tears flow.

I've been on the WebGuy site all morning. I finally saw a photo of S. What a great service to all of us who want to be close, but are so far away!

Wow, you are so strong! I have been half bawling/half grinning for days now, and the drop off! OHHHH!

I just wanted to let you parents know that I understand how you are feeling. Our cadet has been in the Air Force (prior enlisted) for the past year and a half and he is now starting at the Academy with your cadets. When he went to BMT last February, I thought I would die, not getting to talk with him for 6 weeks. I got one phone call and one letter the whole time. However, when I saw him at the BMT graduation, he had matured so much and I was so proud of him! You will be amazed at the change in your son or daughter! Good Luck and see you all at Parent's Weekend in August!

Keep writing letters parents! It will make your day better and it will make your Basic's days better. :)

I might add that I plan on taking a camera with me into the valley for 2nd BCT. If I can catch your Basics around, I'll get some photos for everyone. ;)
Can't make promises, but shouldn't be a problem.

Hornetguy,
You are right about the letters. It does make me feel better. And thanks for all the help you've been during the past year. Any and all picts would be greatly appreciated.

txtwinmom last year whenever (Duckphreak) a family friend would see Potter, one of the Basics Potter was with would end up calling (Duckphreak) Sir, and she (Duckphreak) would have to make potter and everyone she was with go down for push-ups. Being an EMT Hornet should have a lot more freedom to get around, and I would really feel bad for the unforunate cadet who makes the gender mistake. Look forward to those pictures I am sure you will cherish them later.

I'm the mom of the guy from Phoenix that you hosted during Orientation in April. My husband and I met you when you dropped him off. It's great to hear you'll be in Jack's Valley. A picture of J would be great. He's in Hellcats, Flight A.

I'll be sure to drop by hellcats and see him. By then though, everyone might be as tan as him; more difficult to spot. ;)

This fencersmother will take any and all pictures, hornetguy. You'll be in Twin's squadron for the academic year, right? Tiger Ten?

Yes and No. My squadron is Tiger Ten. BUT, first semester I will not be living in the squadron because i will live just upstairs in Group Staff. But, second semester I do return. Either way, Tiger Ten is my squadron.

Well, you'll be around for his R-Day! Great!
