2012 PAVE at Vanderbilt

Attending PAVE was definitely the best decision I’ve ever made in terms of preparing for myself for the future. What I took away from my experience at PAVE was a better idea of what I am interested in studying in college, and more importantly how to actually learn. This program gives you a surprisingly realistic glimpse into the life of a college student. This isn’t just some summer camp. At PAVE, you really do feel like you are in college, and there is really no better way to prepare for college than to immerse yourself in this kind of environment. I had a great experience at the PAVE program, and I would without question recommend it to anyone looking to acquire a better understanding of themself, where they are headed, and how they are going to get there. If you are serious about investing in your future and preparing yourself for college, then consider coming to the Pre-college PAVE program here at Vanderbilt. The PAVE program is such an amazing experience, and I am so grateful that I was given the opportunity to attend such a unique and beneficial program.

I am just finishing the PAVE program. PAVE is a great program for anyone going to college, whether you are interested in the humanities, sciences, or engineering. One of the great parts about PAVE is the healthcare experiences track. Through this track, you are able to see if your are comfortable in a medical setting before committing to the pre-med track as an undergraduate. My friends and I have participated in other universities’ healthcare and pre-college programs. We all agree that PAVE is the best program we have attended. PAVE is such a well rounded program its alumni feel confident and prepared going into college.

PAVE is discovery — self discovery through experience. The program is for anyone interested in attending a top university. PAVE is designed for everyone interested in pushing themselves academically and learning how to pace themselves in a true collegiate setting. Whether you want to come to to Vanderbilt for college, or would like to attend Harvard University, PAVE’s multi-faceted experience is perfect for you. The program will teach you independence, self discipline, and self motivation, all while keeping your summer fun, productive, and enriching. Come to PAVE for one of the best summers of your life.

PAVE is a unique program that not only has allowed me to interact with students from around the world, but also to learn from an accomplished faculty and staff. One of the many amazing aspects about the entire experience has been to learn more about what my choices for the future include. Without PAVE I would not be that step closer to knowing what I want to do with my life. The future seems so foreboding and even somewhat far away at this point, but this program has undoubtedly assisted me in narrowing down my options. By exposing the students to a variety of possible career paths and majors I have confirmed that I am on the right path for me. Some of my friends came with an unwavering mindset in what they wanted for their future. However, as the program concluded many have found that their passion lies in another place. It is because of the many experiences PAVE offers that they were able to do this. I know that this program has shaped my views on my college choices for the fall, which is a life altering choice not to be taken lightly. College is serious business and after experiencing PAVE I am much more sure on what I do and don’t want in a university. So if you do or do not have any idea what the future holds for you, or if you just want to be exposed to other college subject areas, then PAVE is absolutely the best use of your time and money and, like me and my friends were, you can stop worrying about college and your future.

I want to be a doctor and go to Vanderbilt for college.
-do you think attending PAVE before my senior year and before my freshman year of college will help me with the admissions for vanderbilt?

I was considering sending my daughter to Med School 101 at Vandy but their constant SPAM posts makes me think twice.

Agreed. I’m kind of skeptical that 3 users with under 3 posts each have some SO glaring to say about PAVE.

i just got accepted into the 2012 PAVE program for this summer and i have a 4.33 Gpa overall so you should definatly be good!

I also got accepted to PAVE. My GPA is a 91.25 (My school doesn’t give it to us on a 4.5 scale so I haven’t gotten around to changing it yet) and I did not sent in any standardized test scores so you should be fine! Good luck!

I’ve been getting a lot of emails and mail about PAVE. I was wondering, is this program engineering oriented? If I were to go, I am leaning more towards taking medicine/business courses rather than technology/engineering courses because I am not really interested in engineering/technology. Also, this year I am taking AP BC Calc and AP Physics C (Mechanics) so if I go to the camp, will I be learning the same thing all over again? How are the dorms? How many roommates do you have, and is it easy to make friends? I’m a little shy. Also, is this camp a “party camp?” Thanks so much for answering my questions. =)

The first 4 posts seem to come from the same person, identical in style, just saying.

Haha the first three posters have the same exact format of their username. First initial, middle initial, full last name. And the fourth one sounds exactly the same.

While I can understand the skepticism of some of the posters on this thread, as a PAVE alumnus, I would hate to have anyone discouraged from attending what really is a life changing program. If you go back and look at some of the posts from previous years, you will find nothing but positive comments from the parents and students that have actually attended or been involved with the PAVE program. In fact, I personally know each of the posters on this thread whose authenticity is being questioned and assure you that they, like me, were all PAVE participants. My parents and I considered many summer pre-college programs. I was initially drawn to PAVE because of its uniqueness and being a true college experience. Ultimately attending was one of the best decisions I have ever made. A number of my friends couldn’t believe everything I accomplished in PAVE. The funny thing is that it was so engaging and collaborative an experience that I don’t remember ever dreading an assignment.

Not only was PAVE academically challenging, it prepared me for college in ways I can’t even describe. I have always been a top student and have taken many AP classes. I am very involved in extracurricular activities (including Varsity Baseball, DECA, and SGA) but PAVE improved both my study habits and time management skills. I also participated in the health care experience offered to PAVE students and loved it.

It wasn’t all work. I met and bonded with students from all over the US and other countries, participated in meaningful community service projects and had more fun than I have ever had in a summer. The professors were supportive and the head of the program, Doc V. takes a personal interest in every student.

This may sound like a paid advertisement but I assure you I am just a regular high school senior who proudly wears my “PAVE Mafia” shirt. The friendships and connections I made at PAVE will last a lifetime. Over winter break 8 of my best friends from PAVE reunited for a weekend. The college acceptances of the participants from last year’s PAVE class are already impressive. If you are even thinking about attending, don’t hesitate to apply. I can say without hesitation that the worst part of PAVE was leaving.

I feel so strongly about the PAVE Program, that I am willing to personally speak to anyone that has questions. Just PM me.

I was invited to apply to go this year, but, unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to attend. We won’t qualify for financial aid because of my dad’s salary last year, but as he’s currently unemployed, we are being cautious and being very careful with money, since I’m entering my senior year. Besides, my top summer camp choice is in D.C.

4.0, 2300. Do you think I’m okay without like major leadership or anything?

An application is more than two numbers.

I’m aware…but I mean there isn’t like a full blown resume. You can only say so much on your part; a lot of it is about the recs I’m sure.

I’m going to PAVE 2012 and I was wondering if we get to know who our roommate is before hand or if you just meet them when u get there. Thanks!

Can you please share some of you experiences if you attended the pre-med/healthcare track of the PAVE program?

They don’t offer much aid anyway, I think the max is like $1500.
