2012 Results thread

I would find the template, but I got waitlisted, so I am kinda bummed.

Dang grades.

34 ACT
3.67 GPA (unweighted)
Top 10%
NHS VP, Lacrosse, Football, Quiz Bowl, etc.
National Merit Finalist

I can't believe you got waitlisted w/your ACT score and National Merit, there's no hope for me... if I ever get my letter! :(

Waitlisted

33 ACT
4.17 weight GPA
4th place at intel ISEF, NASA internship

I thought I wrote a really nice haverford essay, but apparently not nice enough. Anybody have an idea of the size of the wait list?

Elevator--I live in California, and I got it today. Though maybe admit packets take longer?

wyldeone-- I wish, maybe the flat-out rejection letters take longer. On the other thread people have already been accepted (and rejected too) so I don't know what the problem is. Maybe someone in my family is hiding the mail from me?

Is there anyone else who hasn't heard?

I haven't received mine yet and I live in Northern Virginia.

I'm a Haverford freshman whose hometown is in New Jersey, about 45 minutes away from the college. Last year, my acceptance letter arrived several days later than the rejections/waitlist notifications of several of my high school peers. Don't lose hope and try not to stress too much! :)

Thank you sweetsinger, I love you haha.

waitlisted:
2250 SAT
1500 subject tests (chem and history)
4.00 gpa
good honor code essay i thought...

Yeah, I forgot my subject tests: 780 USH, 760 Math II, 740 Physics.

I really liked my Honor's Code Essay, but I didn't have anyone else review it, so maybe it sucked.

what the hell?? i can't believe you guys got waitlisted, I definately wouldn't have gotten in if I had applied RD. my school is small and we don't have any national honors society or many clubs at all, and my stats aren't as good as all of yours. I wouldn't take Ford's response personally, they must have a crazy amount of apps this year and I kind of believe it was just luck that I got in.

OK you guys are going to hate me for this, but... 2000 combined SAT score. 33 ACT score. 750 on SAT subject Chemistry and 780 and the SAT MATH IIC. I thought I did a really good job on the regular essay, and I wrote the honor code essay in about two days. It was to the point and it expressed some great ideas.
Also I followed Michelle Hernandez's advice and attached an activities list. And also, I submitted a violin recording and a resume and recs from my violin teacher . I played Mendelssohn's Concerto.

Rejected!

1360 SAT (MA + CR; can't remember what I got on writing)
2100 SAT II
3.981 GPA
Great Recs
Published scientific researches (I submitted two abstracts), U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs internship, Model UN (a lot of best delegate awards from various conferences), NHS, Math Club (ton of math competitions awards), about 1000+ hrs. of community service (mostly working with the town councilmen and mayor on city issues).

Looking back, I think my why Haverford essay and my honor code essay was not very good. Also my SAT I scores were not at all outstanding. Oh well, congrats to all of you who got accepted!

Accepted

2250 SAT (790 Verbal, 720 Math, 740 Writing)
800 Lit SAT II, 700 World History SAT II
3.9 GPA
Included separate activitles list (many speech/debate awards, co-editor of literary magazine, NHS, karate, scout camp volunteer and counselor, student of the month).

wait listed
(expected rejection)
2200 SAT/ 1440
national merit finalist
3.64 UW 3.99 W

a bunch of writing awards
But i missed the interview deadline and live 30 mins away, idk
but does any one know how many got waitlisted and hav's wait list stats?

Check the CDS on the website.

Last two years are about 700 offered a spot on the waitlist, 300 some take it, and 54 got in 1 year, 10 last year.

Sorry to those who got WL/R. :(

Most of you seriously have nothing that "needs to be explained" regarding your GPA, stats, essays or extracurriculars. HC has 315 spots each year to create an incoming class that will support 21 varsity sports, a symphony orchestra, a full chorale, 33+ academic majors, talent for theater productions, critical mass for ### different student groups, ect… ect… ect... I believe there is an "academic threshold" that must be met but, after that, gettings enough kids to supports different facets of the college seems to take priority.

WL is going to be very difficult to predict this year. Normally, 0-10 kids are admitted off the WL. The one year when it was 50, I believe, was the transition year for the new admissions head. This year will be tough to predict because, while you have HC going “no loan” and increasing its financial aid overall, most LACs also saw a huge rise in applicants because the most prestigious Ivies got rid of ED. Some of these top Ivy kids are in the admitted LAC pool and many will eventually decide on the Ivy. Not sure how this will all play out.

Accepted.

2260 SAT (800 Verbal, 800 Math, 660 Writing)
800 Bio, 760 US History, 720 Math I
Scored a 5 on AP Bio, APUSH, and AP Lang/Comp
3.9...something GPA
ranked 1 of 161
Bazillions of extracurriculars including drama, choral singing, president of community service club (wrote EC essay about organizing disaster relief for a Nicaraguan sister-city), track & field (jav. and pole vault), NHS, Spanish Honors Society, etc.
Recs were good. I was told my Common Ap essays were very good.

I don't really remember my Honor Code essay... I don't remember liking it very much.

Accepted! Oh, yay. I wish that everyone could share my good fortune! After so many close friends have suffered in the grip of this process my own success feels cheap and almost at their expense.

But then I'm mostly ecstatic.

White female from Southern California;
2250 (800 WR, 740 CR, 710 M);
800 WH, 720 BIOM, 780 USH;
3.9 something unweighted, 4.3 something weighted gpa;
5's on comp, lit, bio, world history, and apush. 4 on calc bc;
Speech and Debate, Young Democrats, student branch of city council, Amnesty International, environmental club, random political internships.
I'd expect the strongest part of my application was my essays. Although I did have an alcohol citation on my school record, so I had to write an extra essay about that...I'm glad the Honor Code school saw through punitive administrative policies. I mention it because evidently you needn't be perfect.

Oh, and I'm hoping to study poli sci.

I doubt I'll visit...I did last spring and it's a pretty long trip. Is anyone planning to?

Waitlisted
SAT : CR 770 Math 710 Writing 680
SAT 2: Lit 740 Math 2 780 World History 690
ECs: Editor of school newspaper, Debate - national level, I write, I freelance for newspapers. Student of the Year and Speaker of the Year (twice in a row in the competitions).
Recs: Absolutely great!
Doing two boards at once - the ISC and A levels.

Can't think why I would be waitlisted, I was good enough for Grinnell and NYU. Guess who is SO not going to take a place on the waiting list?

and my GPA is 3.88/4.0, unweighted.
