Anyone doing it this year? I remember we had a pretty good number of people last year.

Yup! This is my first year; I’m working on a short story, a poem, and possibly a few photographs.

I’m doing it as well. I submitted a short short story and a memoir type thing in October. I’ve never done this before, so I shall see if this was worth my $10.

Submitted 2 portfolios and a few art entries. Fingers crossed!

Good luck. You should know in early February about regional awards. If you received the highest regional award (gold key), you work will be considered for the national award.

Yes! Submitted two shorts stories, one short short and one poem collection. I might want to work on a novel as well, but I’ll see if I have time over CHristmas between reviewing for the Jan. SATs and being lethargic.

I did one journalism story. Hopefully I at least get something…

I’ve submitted two paintings, two drawings, one short story, and one memoir. I won a Gold Key last year and hoping maybe to get to the national level! Does anyone know how many 8th graders submit? Thanks!

I’ve submitted poems and short stories since sophomore year. My creative writing teacher actually reminded us about it today. Now that we’re seniors, we have to put together a themed portfolio to submit. I’ve yet to win anything, but many of my classmates have won regionally and we’ve had national winners for two years now.

Maybe this year…

^they judge them online

I’m confused, should we send the submission fees/teacher forms to our designated address by mail separate from the online submissions? Does the deadline for our region apply to both of these submits?

Also, what is the difference between the senior writing portfolio and the regular writing portfolio? Can one portfolio qualify as both?

thnks guys…I didn’t know we had had something like this until, like 8 seconds ago …uhhhh lol

Send in the check and entry forms to the mailing address of your designated region, and upload your work digitally to the website. The work will be judged from the website.

And the senior portfolio is the only portfolio offered; you cannot submit a portfolio until you are a senior. I think you can, however, submit portfolios in both writing and art, if that is what you mean.

And hurry! I know my regional early-deadline (for reduced entry fees) was last Friday; many of yours might be coming up soon.

thnks dude!!!

and
is there any way I can see the works of past winners? I know this seems like a stupid question, but I found the 2011 Writing winners, I’m looking for the photography entries…help?

I recently learned about this and I’m thinking of doing the portfolio. I love to write, so I’ll probably be submitting some poetry and short stories :)

I have a question about the online submission:

After uploading the work and click “Complete your registration” button, the website bring you to a page with the message: “You’re Almost Done!”.
In this page, there are 4 steps(1 Add, 2 print, 3 sign, 4 submit). Even if you finished everything (printing you work, get it signed and mailed out the submission form). When you log in, the message still says: “You’re Almost Done!”.

Is there a button there for us to click to get a message like: ” You are Done!”

After I sent in my check, the submissions page no longer let me edit my work, so I guess that’s how you know that you’re good to go.

watchmesoar:
When did you sent you check? Did this happen right after you sent your check?

When you log in now, does the message say ‘You are Done!’ ?

okay dumb question, but this is my first year submitting and I’m totally confused! I’ve already registered online (made an account…) and I downloaded a deposit ticket from my regional guidelines place…but I can’t find the submission form?! the one where i need to obtain a teacher’s signature! I haven’y submitted any of my stories yet…do I not get the form until I submit works online?! :/

^Yeah you have to submit the works online then click complete reregistration and it will take you to a screen to print them out.
