2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

From DVC & CCC
Major: applying as molecular & cell biology/biochemistry
schools: UCB is # 1, then UCLA, SD, davis, sb (i hope for my sake it doesnt come to sb)
GPA:3.89(1 B, in stupid c++ programming, non pre req)
ECs: completed research internship at lawrence berkeley labs on ucb campus during summer, submitted for publication. first gen greek, if that counts for something

Problems: As far as all the schools except for UCB go, I’m missing 2 physics pre-reqs. Basically I’m trying to find out how much this is going to hurt me, as well as I don’t really have any other ECs except for a couple of oddjobs that were completely irrelevent and being an NCS placer. Also my IGETC isn’t done, I’m missing a behavioral science and arts/humanities.

Is there anything I could do that’s quick and dirty to improve my app in terms of ECs, please let me know!:)

I’m thinking guaranteed admission…

Schools in mind: UCSB, UCI, UCSC (Tagged to UCSB already)
Current GPA: 3.35 (3.40) assist courses
Major: Economics/Accounting or Economics/Mathematics
Notes: 3 A’s in prereqs and one B, and thinking A or B in calc classes so overall guess a 3.5 in my prereqs, will have my calc series done in spring 12. Almost done with IGETC need Chem class will be done in spring 12.
Honors; got on the deans list 3 times and probably will get presidents list these last two semesters. Also involved in AGS society at my school

Been volunteering in local church for 6 years and tutor at my school…
Tell me what you think, my biggest regret is f-ing around my first yr in CC( those C’s really mess up ur GPA) im pretty sure my TAG will be accepted for the econ/acct major at UCSB
In the fall i will have all pre-reqs done and in spring have my calc series completed and am estimating above a 3.5 gpa with the way im going right now, what are my chances of acceptance?

Those pre-reqs are gonna hurt your chances man, I’ve had friends apply to UCB without the pre-reqs and they got denied, but the one who completed all his pre-reqs and calc series got accepted with a 3.4. They are very strict about not having pre-reqs done, which is also stated on their website before the application period opens. Yeah you can probably volunteer at a local thrift store to boost your E.C’s and make sure that essay is perfect, it could make or break you regarding your situation. Just volunteer like 5hrs on sat and sun

jiggaloww, please state who you are reply to when you reply to chance.

GPA: 3.74

Major: Electrical Engineering (Bioengineering at UCSD)

Applying: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB

Current School: CCC in San Diego

IGETC: Will finish this semester

Pre-Req: Will finish this semester

EC: Certified Pharmacy Tech., Intern for Chem. Company (Lab Assistant), Volunteered at Hospital

Courses:
Gen Chem: B for 1st Series, C for 2nd Series (That C really has me anxious)
O-Chem: All A’s
Math: All A’s - Calc 1 through Linear and Diff.
Physics: All A’s

If y’all need any more info, just say so! Thanks for your time (:

@UCkittychen- oh ok, but when i reply to someone it should notify the person i replied to, I’ll do that nxt time though…

^it doesn’t.

@jiggalow

yeah i know, although for UCB i have all the required prereqs done technically, because the physics courses are optional and the second general chemistry is only required for one track of the MCB major. it’s just that most people, i’m assuming, will have that 2nd gen chem class done as well as the physics, which is kinda my source of worry that i wont get into other UCs if berk rejects me. i did the whole calc series too, which isnt required i’m pretty sure, so hopefully that helps.

Hello everyone, here are my information
The courses I’ve already taken is about 30 units. (2 computer science classes(one is honor class), 1 business class, 3 calculus classes, 1 music singing class) and my GPA is 4.0. (I am good at science class, so I think I can keep my GPA at least more than 3.85 by spring), I will take three more honor classes in fall, winter and spring.

EC: teaching high school student about programming in library(but just one course), computer club webmaster, computer lab tutor, and I am planning to become a math tutor. Member of Phi Theta Kappa
How is my chance to ucb(my major may be Computer science or Electrical Engineer&Computer Science) ??? Is it a problem that I’ve taken not so many classes?

Hopefully Cal with civil engineering, idk , just really paranoid about that major @ Cal ( ranked No.1 in the whole nation). :(

Chance me plz

P/S : I heard bad rumors about Cal people, something like very competitive, dead campus, hard to find a parking lot and such. But if I can get in, i think i can bear those things in 2 yrs :D

are any Ivys a possibility, if so which would you recommend as a good fit/most probable (if any)

thanks for any help

^Read post #213

Who already submitted their TAG?

This is a chance thread. Just because people have 4.0s, it doesn’t mean they’re (1) guaranteed admission to Cal, or (2) that they shouldn’t be allowed to post in the thread.

On topic: As best I can tell, whoau49 and JTLEE91, you two should be in.

^ Isn’t it so blatantly obvious that 1) they (4.0s) will have a good/great chance of getting into UCLA or Cal anyway 2) What type of responses are you looking for when you post excellent stats with great EC’s???

@CCSTUD- Well i know that both UCB and UCLA are hella strict about pre-reqs but more than likely if you don’t get into Cal, UCLA will accept you. And Davis has a big medical gathering expo thing every year where doctors and the like come and tell you how great the med program is at Davis, i’d recommend going to it just to absorb some of what the former alumni and people around the US say about it. The big 3 (Cal, UCLA and UCSD) from my perspective are highly over-rated especially for undergrad studies. You should visit each school, if you haven’t already, and see which one you feel comfortable around. Just make sure to submit TAG before Sep 30 and keep above 3.5 if you plan for grad school.

thank you screename1

okay lets do this, whoau49

1. Thank you for signing up and using your 1st post to ask for a chance, we’ll probably never hear from you again.

2. It’s very highly likely you will get into UCB because you have a 4.0, but you might not because…you didn’t specify if you took any major courses. You have IGETC completed…as required for UCB.

You interned at a law school which makes you look superb over many of us who just signed up for clubs and did small amounts of community service.

You also volunteered helping our youth and at religious organizations, that should also give you a boost because it shows you possibly have morals and values as a person and you care about helping our future.

3. “Good Luck!”, oh wait - Oh you have close to perfect stats. You won’t need luck.

@friednoodles

great GPA, great desired school, great EC’s. I am sure you will be in for 2012 somewhere just like the two other 4.0 students who beneath you.

you didn’t mention IGETC completed, you mentioned pre-reqs is that including IGETC as well?
