i am saying yes for UCD/UCSB tho. Which is your #1 out of UCLA/UCB/UCSD?

Chance me in too! anyone with similar stats that got into ucd/uci? im a uc to uc transfer

Current GPA: 3.15 (on the low side cause i got 2 C’s).
Major: Biological science (molecular bio)
EC’s: volunteer at health center, participate in pre-health club & pharmacy, tutoring elementary students on weekends.

Applying to: UC Davis & UC Irvine
All pre-reqs will be done, (calc series, gen chem +lab, ochem +lab, stats, bio and will start biochem, have uc reciprocity
Personal statements: DONE!

QUESTION: I take classes at local cc during summer. I did well on these classes, got A’s and B’s…do these classes help my gpa? these courses are uc transferable. can someone tell me how i calculate it. it will help my gpa.

^^just add them to the UC TAG coursework and it’ll automatically compute your GPA.

As far as I know, once you begin coursework at a UC, CC courses cease to factor into your GPA. So they probably won’t help your GPA.

@ hime1234

I’m at UCR right now. Once you’re in a UC, CC courses you take during the summer will only be graded on a pass/fail scale when these units are brought to a UC.

@ Maninder

What are your ECs?

Try to get your GPA up close to a 3.95 for Cal Econ.

thanks kitty!

filipino, over 90k (family income).
my #1 is ucsd, and a close #2 - UCB.

yeah, you aren’t a URM, but you are a minority.

you’ll make it dude, no worries.

UCkittychen:
“im not sure about the dynamics with HAAS, what i have been reading on here, its harder than med school to get admitted to(?),”

As someone who has applied to and graduated from a U.S. medical school, I can assure that there is not an undergraduate program in the country that is as difficult to get admitted to as a U.S. medical school is.

The level of competition for acceptance to even one medical school is at a level that is so high I doubt few CCC students could even begin to comphrehend it. At UC Berkeley only the top 1-2% of undergraduates even bother to apply to medical school and only about half will get even one acceptance to a U.S. medical school.

I’m at UCR right now. Once you’re in a UC, CC courses you take during the summer will only be graded on a pass/fail scale when these units are brought to a UC.

^^ is this for real?

^ yes it’s true. However for graduate schools they use your actual grade.

Here’s the thing-
I knew when I took summer courses at a CCC that it would not boost my GPA at the current UC I am attending. However, I thought when I applied to UCLA that I could list the courses and have the grades automatically compute into my overall GPA. I was under that impression. Is this not the case? If not, how is it that you know?

Thanks

Any advice would be awesome!
I’m hoping to get into UCLA for Fall '12 as a Psychology major.
Current School: CCC
GPA: 3.98 (All A’s and A+'s except for ONE shudder A- this past Spring Quarter)
Work: 25 hrs per week (paying my way through school is important to me)
Coursework: Will have all pre-req’s and IGETC done. Taking 17-19 units per quarter. One class each quarter has been an honors class.
EC’s: Past year–Honors Program, Participant in the Honors council, volunteer tutor
EC’s I will be adding this year: Tutor for my CCC, Starting a club, joining a club, and joining Phi Theta Kappa this fall. (took me a while to figure out which clubs at school I was interested in)

Will the EC’s I’m adding be too late? Are my chances strong with what I have?

I’m also considering applying to UCB, but I will have barely any psychology prereqs done. Would it be wasting my time to apply to UCB as well if I don’t have the prereqs completed? I spoke with a rep at my school and she made it clear to me that more “well rounded” students would be preferred…

One more thing! Are there any programs/classes offered at UCLA just for transfer students? I would love to be able to meet other transfers relatively easily!! Also, does the school offer any help in finding a roommate? I want to live in an apartment but I don’t know anyone I would live with down there.

Thanks for the help!

GPA: 3.389
Major: Biological sciences for UCD and USC, MIGM for UCLA, Molecular Toxicology for Cal
Major Prereqs done for UCD, UCLA; Done for Cal by Spring before Transfer
Strongly Recommended classes done by Spring
IGETC: Done
TAP and Honors: For UCLA
TAG: For UCI
Upward Trend
ECs: Some school club members, Hospital Volunteering 100+ hours still continuing, Musician.
Personal Statement: Pretty good.

@strive101

Was an Assistant Manager at work, Residential Life Staff, Resident Assistant, and Volunteer with the homeless shelter. EC’s will probably be the weakest part of my application but for Cal Econ I guess you can say my GPA is too.

If I ace fall and winter quarter I’ll creep into a 3.95 but if I remember correctly they only factor in fall quarter grades so the highest my GPA can end up being for their decision is 3.91

@ Maninder

No, Your ECs look pretty good. But it would look even better and safer if you can get some Econ-related ECs too, maybe join a Econ or finance club during Fall.

And yeah, try to ace all fall classes. Even if it’s not up to a 3.95, I’m sure you’ll be in, considering if you’d have decent personal statements. Good luck.
