Actually your right I didn’t take any physics class or programming classes and it’s requires for ucla. Soooo I’m probably not going to get in to ucla depressing : (

Hey guys, new plan. I’m going to apply for whatever majors I’ve got 100% Pre-req completion.

UCB - History
UCLA - History
UCD - English
UCSB - History
UCSD - Political Science

All pre-reqs done, 3.67 GPA, volunteer/work at a retirement home.

Chance me again. Shooting for Davis.

Please chance me.
GPA: 3.51
Major: History
CCC student, finishing up igetc and all pre reqs this Fall
Will have 70+ units by Spring
Applying to UCSB and UCI, with a TAG to UCSD. I would really love to go to UCLA or UCB, but I don’t know how likely that is.
EC: Honors program, AGS for 1.5 years (life time membership), and 50+ hours volunteering at an assisted living facility for the elderly
I work 25 to 30 hours a week, and I was in the army for four year and served in Iraq for two years, so I have life experience. I don’t know how much that will do for me, but my professors have said it will be a big help.
Does anyone think I will have a shot at UCLA or UCB?

Shallot,

Your stats/EC’s are great. I wouldn’t worry about being admitted into any of those schools as you have shown dedication through your plentiful EC’s. As for the personal statement, it is a boring topic as it is VERY common on applications. What makes this divorce any different from the thousands of others who tell the same story? Millions of applications usually deal with this same scenario of how a divorce truly put them in a downward spiral but they came out stronger. Your application needs to be remembered, so either dig deep within the divorce or choose another topic. If you do plan to pursue your parents’ divorce, make sure it is EXTREMELY descriptive and highlights your strengths while ameliorating your weakness. As for chances:

UCB: 90%
UCLA: 85%
UCD: 99%
UCSD: Tag

Okay thanks for the good news. Still I wish that ucla and berkley was 99% also. I guess that can be reached through my essay. Thanks for chancing though I can go forward with confidence.

I have a perfect GPA so far w/ good EC’s but I have a dilemma with my personal statement.
I’m planning to major in Economics/Bus. Econ. I’m TAG-ing to UCSD Economics and going for UCLA Economics. I might also apply to Haas or play it safe and apply for UCB Economic, don’t know yet.

I know UCLA/UCB is extremely competitive and it worries me. Especially after reading Tonio’s post.

Could you guys give me some pointers on how to make a really really good personal statement? Like, if SOB stories are not the way to go then what else? Every topic that’s academics/school related seems so generic to me I can’t see the difference…

^ Only UCKittyChen can give you some advice in this case /sarcasm

Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCD, Cal Poly, and Duke University
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.92
IGETC Completed
Will have more than 70 units before transfer
ECs: 2 Year Water Polo Coach, Internship at 2 different Private Medical Practices(not psychology oriented), Internship at school with Psychology teacher, 1500+ Volunteer Hours at Local Church, Roughly 60 Volunteer Hours at School’s Service Club, Job for roughly 6 months as receptionist, Member of 5 Clubs and Officer of 1
Personal Statement: Believe I’m an exceptional writer so I expect it to be great.
-Im not sure if this helps but I have siblings who have graduated from UCLA and Cal Poly. Does this increase my chances?

haha @ sparkyboy, i just stay out of this thread since people are uniting and trying to roast me just because i feel its irrelevant to ask to be chanced with just marvelous stats, what is there to really be said about a person with perfect stats?

this poster obviously is aware of his/her success, however sosadd, since you have perfect stats, you should speak on something that is actually a flaw you have that is relevant to academia. OR you should speak about the work and effort it took you to get perfect stats and how you would hope to influence others in the future with your methods for THEM to achieve similar results.

don’t seem like a little spick, be humble like pacquiao and know you still have room for corrective criticism basically.

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB, Pomona College
Major: Math/Econ @ UCLA/UCSD and Applied Math @ Cal, UCD, UCSB, Pomona
GPA: 3.53 (at most 3.69 by the end of Fall 2011)
IGETC Completed
TAG: UCSD and UCD
Prereqs: Everything will be done by the end of this semester except for Diff Eqs. and C++ (UCLA req.) but everything will be completed by the end of Spring.

Strong Upward Trend; Basically my first 3 semesters—2 at SDSU and 1 and a CCC—I did horribly (1 A, 1 B & 1 B-, and the rest Fs) aftter that
PreReqs: All completed with A’s save for a B Micro when I was at SDSU(that was the only class I passed that semester)

Spring 2010 3.00 (12 units)
Summer 2010 4.00 (6 units)
Fall 2010 3.75 (12 units)
Spring 2011 3.75 (16 units)
Summer 2011 4.00 (4 quarter units)
Fall 2010 16.5 (pending)

10 semester units from AP credit

I already retook all the classes in which I got Fs and no Cs or Ds in transcript.

ECs: Volunteer at a Public Library, and at a local Urban Farm.
Math Science & Engineering Achievement program
Member of the Honors Program
Dean’s List 2010-2011

For this semester I’ll be volunteering as a Math Tutor, and I’ll be helping out in a regional Organ music program. If all goes well, I might also intern with the City Treasurer.

Misc. URM, ESL, low income, first-generation

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD (TAG)
Major: Computer Science
Transferable GPA: 3.61
Overall GPA: 3.66

Prereqs: I’ve done/will do all except for the last physics class, and 1 chemistry class for UCLA.

Took Calculus 1/2 during HS and got a B/C. Also took Poli Sci during HS and got A/B in two semesters. Since then I’ve taken 36 Units with an A in every class except for an A- in one. Taking 16 units this semester and so far on track to ace all of them as well. I got an A in Calc 3 and Differential Equations so I’m hoping that will show I’m capable of doing Calculus after that blunder with the B/C.

AP exams: 5 in US History, 3 in Chemistry and Statistics, 4 in Art History, World History, Biology, English Lit & English Comp, Psychology and Physics C: Mechanics. Total of 40 Semester units from these.

Been looking for internships, currently applying for one at Qualcomm but I have no guarantee that I’ll get it. Looking into volunteering at Sharp Hospital to work with computers there (they’ve posted Internships in the past labeled as CS/Eng). I guess a question here would be, is it too late to pursue these in the months ahead and still have a meaningful impact on my chances? Spent 4 years in highschool volunteering at Marathons and Races, but I don’t know if this would be relevant or not.

If anyone could review this and comment I would very much appreciate it.

Please chance me for UC San Diego:

Current GPA : 3.3
GPA by end of Fall 2011 : 3.5
Major : Political Science
IGETC : No
Financial Status : Parent makes 0 income
Transferring from CCC
URM Status
EC : ACLU club
Will be writing a fairly well personal statement of course.

Thanks.
Looking to take Med Pre-Reqs simultaneously as Poly Sci classes.

GPA: 3.389
Major: Biological sciences for UCD and USC, MIGM for UCLA, Molecular Toxicology for Cal
Major Prereqs done for UCD, UCLA; Done for Cal by Spring before Transfer
Strongly Recommended classes done by Spring
IGETC: Done
TAP and Honors: TAP For UCLA and honors
TAG: For UCI
Upward Trend
ECs: Some school club members, Honors Society, Hospital Volunteering 100+ hours still continuing, Musician.
Personal Statement: Pretty good.

Just curious, but when people say that they are “missing” a prereq, are they saying that they will not be completing a prereq before they transfer, or that they will be completing a prereq in the spring, meaning that the admissions committee will not see the grade for that prereq?

Current GPA : 3.67
GPA by end of Fall 2011 : 3.7

—Major—
UCB - History
UCLA - History
UCD - English
UCSB - History
UCSD - Political Science
IGETC : Will be done in Spring
Transferring from CCC
EC : A little work experience

All Prereqs completed

Chance me

@UCkittychen

If you go to a community college in SD county, there’s this special agreement with ucsd that guarantees admissions with just a 3.0, it will only be in effect this academic year though; I guess they wanted to make a smoother transition due to the .5 gpa increment for tag from last year. Since you file that separately, you can also submit a TAG application online.

darn that effing effcked.

but I’m glad for you nevertheless.

Current School: UC Irvine (boo, UC-UC transfer…)

Applying to: UCLA, USC (chance if possible)

Current GPA: 3.827 (anticipating a drop to as far as 3.65 after fall quarter with O-chem)

Major: Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (more interested in) OR Physiological Sciences (better for professional school but must compete with premeds. I am no longer premed).

Prereqs: Will not have finished a semester of Physics. Will not have finished one year of Calculus (assuming that Multivariable calculus is required). Will not have done any Biology labs (no under division bio labs at UCI…).

UC Reciprocity: All GE’s will be completed by Spring 2012 EXCEPT for the two upper division Writing GE courses required by UCI.

ECs: Basically nothing of note. I joined one club in which I attended weekly meetings (learning about healthcare professions) but did no volunteer work within it. Deans Honor for 3 quarters(?). I won a Scholarship too…but other than that, I think I’m going to be relying on highschool EC’s
My biggest regret.

Other reasons for applying: Not to whine or anything, but I really am not feeling Irvine at all. I love culture and meeting different people but it seems like the culture in Irvine is one of rich people who like fancy things =/ I do love UCI as a school a lot, but I would like to try something different. Also, when my sister is going to college next year, my parents are going to move to an area closer to UCLA. Living at UCI is the bomb right now but its not exactly something I want to keep paying for. I would like to commute.

BTW, would someone kindly teach me how to calculate UC GPA because I took a community college course after my senior year of high school. I ask this because my official grade from that school was an A, but my unofficial UCI transcript doesn’t show it as being anything, other than credits (grouped with AP credit basically).

My first post, how exciting.
Hispanic female, and the first to attend college in my family. Mother is on disability and my father is unemployed so my EFC is 0.

Currently attending a CCC
Applying to: University of Washington (my top choice), UCSC, SFSU…probably a few other places (recommendations?)

GPA: 3.2-3.4 (hoping to bring that up this semester)

Major: Sociology
If I get into UW, I will minor in American Sign Language

Almost done with IGETC, it will be completed by next spring.

EC: President of the Gay-Straight Alliance and I spent 6 weeks volunteering at a non-profit in MA. I’ve held jobs to help pay for my family’s living expenses.

Any hope for Washington? I’m worried having a C will hurt my chances significantly.
