2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

Do I have a good shot?

Go to a ccc-this is my first year
No TAG- Not gonna get math done until Winter 2012 =
Applying to: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD
Current GPA: 3.9
Major: Comparative Literature
Prereqs: will be finished by the end of Fall 2011-most are done
Units that will be completed by the end of Fall 2011 including AP: 89 semester units or 134 quarter units
IGETC will be done by Spring 2012 as well as TAP for UCLA
ECs: 105 hours of community service, Treasurer for Rotoract Club during this last semester
Work: I’ve been doing some bookkeeping at a construction company for the last 2 years

I hope I have a chance cuz i really dont know how competitive Comp Lit is and im kinda scared that im not doing tag =</p>

wow, all of you are ucla/ucb/ucsd students.

What would you consider mentionable EC’s for application. If you did tutoring during HS, I’m a currently finishing second year in CC, would you mention that? And volunteer work done during HS. I was thinking I can only mention, let’s say, Alpha Gamma Sigma, a Korean Club (?).

GPA: 3.0 as of Spring 2012
Currently taking 6 units during Summer: Predicting a 3.0-3.09 after Summer.
Finished IGETCs.
Linguistics and Asian Cultures and Language for UCLA.
Korean Literature and Culture and Minor in Linguistics at UCI.
Pretty much Linguistics BA any other UC’s. Linguistics at CSUN.
Will qualify for TAP after Fall 2011, hopefully.
Predicted GPA after Fall 2011 is 3.0-3.3.
Taking available Linguistics classes/prereqs during Fall 2011. Assist is not really showing the prereqs for UCLA and UCI, most likely finish the possible classes after Spring 2012.

Input?

GPA:2.9, 3.0-3.2 by the end of fall semester
Applying to-UCI, UCR, UCSD, UCSB, UCM
Major-Business Administration
Pre Req-Done by Spring 2012
Igetc-Done by Spring 2012
Tag:Only for UCSB if i can get my gpa by 3.2 at the end of fall.

chance me please!

@bennyvaio: you are too good for every school lol… keep up the good work and you’re guaranteed a spot in Cal/LA

@lalaman24: I think you are in for most schools. UCLA’s 2010 admitted average GPA for Comp Lit is only 3.41. and with 3.9 you most likely have a spot there. Btw, I am not sure abt this but I think you can TAG with SD without the math done yet… maybe?

@kittyboy: r you scared? lol jk

@iwillflyby: CSU - honestly I dunno T___T but I think u r in UCI, not very likely for UCLA, average admitted GPA is > 3.5, so you gotta up your game. However, with these ECs, and a killer personal statement and TAP, you have a good shot with GPA around 3.3 - 3.4

@stevololpb18: OK for UCM … the rest a lil bit unlikeley since Bus Ad is very competitive at most schools. Furthermore, you misunderstand how the TAG works… they do not count your GPA after Fall to qualify for TAG, only GPA after this SUMMER. And it’s hard to raise a 2.9 into a 3.2 in just a short time, unless you are taking 4-5 classes right now in the summer, which is very… odd
But still, you can tag with UCR or UCM if your GPA is > 3.0 after this summer :D

That’s basically what I think. Please chance me back. My post is the first one of Page 2. Thanks

I really want UCLA now. HAHAHA. I heard that someone knew someone that got admitted with a 3.1 GPA. Hope it’s true and works out in this case.

should i be?

I’m going to have a around a 3.55ish by the end of fall 2011.
Major: Political Science
I have a lot of volunteer work at places like, the Boys & Girls club, Relay for Life, beach clean ups, etc etc
My only real work experience though is like, babysitting and cat sitting haha
But I’ve had some awesome internships (one lead to me meeting Bill Clinton!)
I also had a super difficult schedule last spring, around 8 classes so it was really hectic
I’ve experience different cultures, overcome stereotypes, yadayadayada
I’ll have all the pre-reqs done
…

Chance for UCLA?
& ANY ADVICE??!

3.81 GPA
Intercampus Transfer from UCSB
Political Science
Applying to UCLA, UCSD, UCI
GEs completed at UCSB (=IGETC) by fall 2011
All prereqs finished for all campuses by summer 2011

@snipehunter: Cal/UCLA are a reach, although you might have a better chance at Cal if your personal statements are good. Should be good to go for UCI/SC/SD.

@benyvaio: Looks good. Make sure to finish TAP and you have a good chance to get into UCLA/Cal.

@ucbecon999: It’s really difficult to determine your chances at UCLA, since it’s really difficult to get into BizEcon/Econ.

@lalaman24: It’s a shame that you can’t TAG at UCSD, but even without it you still have a good chance to get in, same with Cal/LA

@iwillflyby: You might have a chance at LA if you finish TAP, but your GPA is what’s killing your chances. UCI is a maybe.

@stevololpb18: slim chance in all schools besides UCR/UCM provided you raise your GPA above a 3.0.

@AB12345: You have a chance at UCLA, but your GPA is a bit lower than the average GPA admitted. It might be a good idea to write about an internship that shows your interest that you want to be in that major.

@mmsiphone: IGETC does not apply to UC to UC transfers. That’s called UC Reciprocity. You have a good chance at each school.

Oh haha yeah I just meant that UC reciprocity is equal in importance to IGETC, which I imagine people on these boards are more comfortable with.

■■■■■ @ MMS iPhone. i remember when that update dropped back in 09, everyone was sending pics.

Thanks everyone and good luck!! I’ll chance other poli sci majors.

CCC to UCD (TAG), UCB, UCLA
Maybe some OOS and privates (Cornell?)

Assist pre-reqs done after FA 2011 (except political theory-no articulation, classmates admitted last year to UCLA w/o)
IGETC done after SP 2011
~NO HONORS/TAP~

45 semester units 3.798 GPA, 58 units 3.843 after FA 2011
The three B’s that keep me up a night:
computer concepts
music appreciation
american gov (first class summer out of high school)

ECs
leadership position for PTK
internship for a house rep
sports/leadership in hs + decent amount of community service

work experience: (full time)
two restaurant jobs
college employed tutor

essays:
no incredible story, but will be well written and concise

UC/UC Transfer (Davis to Cal)
3.9 GPA Economics
UC Reciprocity
ECs: fencing, Model United Nations, Roosevelt Institute, research assistant for polisci department, bus driver
University Honors Program

plus, I aced Calc at Berkeley over the summer concurrently as a multimedia producer at the Daily Cal

@UCkittychen finish strong in the fall and write a great essay ill think your in at Irvine

@benyvaio the 4.0 is great maybe grab some ECs in the next couple months

@AB12345 maybe get some work experience and emphasize your ECs on the essay

@imjjjaee rehab for mary jane? thats rough…

If I do that what do you think my chance will be? I really think I would be great for UCLA I have the whole story of “overcoming hardships” and stuff like that plus an upward trend etc etc.
I heard a kid with a 3.4 polisci major successfully transferred to UCLA last year…So I have hope hah, I just want to know how to make my application as good as possible and what sort of things really help people get accepted there.

AB12345, I think you have a fair shot at UCLA Poli. You said you had your prereqs done and I imagine you finished IGETC? THe average accepted GPA for fall 2010 UCLA Poli was 3.75, and there has been a slight upward trend over the least few years, so I expect it to be closer to 3.78-3.8 by 2012.

If there is any way to take summer classes or to take a heavy schedule Fall 2011, do so. You are way below on GPA, which is the only thing bringing you down.

I know I will have around 3.65 or 3.7 by the end of SPRING 2012 but I guess that doesn’t matter to them?
I am really hoping to get in. The reason my GPA is lower than average is not because I got Cs or Ds or and super sad grades, it’s mainly because I took a heavy load last semester…too heavy, almost 20 units so I got a lot of Bs which brought be down. I was actually happy to have survived that hell semester with Bs but it brought down my gpa like no other. Idk what to do aaahh
Should I put this information in the “additional comments” part of the UC app?

& yes I’ll have IGETC and prereqs done

Yes, you should explain your lower semester grades in the additional comments section. However, taking too many units isn’t a very strong explaination and it probably won’t help you too much, but it can’t hurt.
