Chance me please. For Berkeley, I’m applying for Computer Science B.A. in the school of Letters and Science so I can try and declare a double major in Physics. I forgot to make this distinction the first time I posted. Since B.S. is impacted and B.A. is not, do I have a higher chance of getting into Computer Science B.A.?

^ I don’t know much about chances for CS majors, but I do know that it is not too late to pursue meaningful internships/volunteer work in the months ahead. Just make sure you are holding those positions before you submit your application so you can put it on there.
And I think it can make a meaningful impact (although not as much of an impact as grades/prereqs/essay) because if you notice on the application, in the category for extracurriculrs etc, for college, it is only categorized by after 12th grade, it doesn’t specify freshman and sophomore year separately. so they wouldn’t know you just started it just before application time. I think.

btw does anyone know how impacted/competitive English is at CAL? The only person I know who got in from my school for that is also someone who got a fullride to Columbia…

Hey, could anyone chance me please and thank you

Applying to UCD,UCSB,UCSD,UCI and UCSC. My first choice is UCSD, second is UCSB
Major: History or Linguistics
Pre-reqs: Done, there weren’t very many
IGETC: Done by the end of this fall. Only have an English class I’m currently taking left.
GPA:3.43, I’m pretty sure it’ll stay there by the end of this semester. Possibly go up next spring.
ECs: I only have this job working at a school daycare place, and babysitting. I have to help my mom watch my little brother since she’s always working and I also take care of grandma who has cancer.
Extras: 1st generation college student, Hispanic/Latina Female, California Resident, currently attending California community college.

My GPA isn’t spectacular and my EC’s aren’t helping me. I’m hopeful though because I don’t think the majors I’m applying to are impacted or very popular. Thanks to anyone who responds.

Hey hey, I’m knew to this… well not really I’ve been trolling to see someone post something similar to me but to no avail…

Anyway I’m applying to UCSC, UCSB, UCD and UCR with a gpa between 3.1 to 3.3 as a psych major depending how errthing goes. Am I shooting for the stars or should I settle for a local cal state? Do I have a chance? I’d really like Santa Cruz or Davis. Input would be greatly appreciated!!

tesler: You have a chance at UCR, UCSC, & UCD! My friend got into DAVIS with a 3.0 TAG…did you sign for TAG? For Santa Barbara…maybe. Depends on your overall application. Best of luck matee.

Applying to UCI
Major: Biology or Pharmaceutical Sciences
Pre-reqs: Gen chem, Bio 93/94, calculus, and possibly physics.
IGETC: Done by spring 2012
GPA: 3.5 (by the end of fall semester)
Possibly 3.7 by the end of spring.
EC’s: Taking Pharmacy Technician classes outside of CC

P.S. Should I apply as a Pharm Sci major or Bio major?? I’m most likely going into pharmacy, but not sure yet! Would I have a higher chance applying as a pharm sci or bio??

Applying to UCI=bus admin, alter business econ,
UCR= bus admin,
UCSB= econ accounting,
UCSD= econ
USC = business admin
Major: Business admin, alternate business econ.
Pre-reqs: completed pre for ucr (took calculus for business for B.S, USC, UCR.), missing regular calculus 1 for others.
IGETC: Done by spring 2012
Current GPA: 3.1 (Currently)
Possibly 3.4 end of spring.
EC’s: -Working at a tutor at a high school in math department(4 months).
Also Tutor homework 10 hrs+ volunteer in public library.

I am really going at the wrong direction with math. I thought i could get the feeling of business if i take calculus for business instead of regular cal.

psychbruin - no I didn’t tag, but i should be done with all the prerequisites for davis the coming spring, and i took a BOATLOAD of psych classes for funsies/hoping it would make my transcripts look nicer

strive101 - I went to french club and psych club but i didn’t think EC’s mattered?

and I did my essays and they seem pretty good (I was originally going to major in english but… yeah)

and even though I’m applying for psych with my gpa ranging between a 3.1 to a 3.4 I also thought about applying to ucla as a latin american studies major, just for the hell of it, considering its not impacted and no prerequs are needed last I checked*

When I’m putting down the classes I’ve taken and their corresponding grades, how would I know if I got an A+, A, or A- in a class? My online report cards have all only reported flat letter grades, and I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve never gotten an A+ or A-, or if the report cards simply aren’t giving +s and -s.

So then in that case, if the report card isn’t reporting the +s, and so forth, am I maybe being unknowingly penalized/boosted? Like, do UCs factor A+s as higher GPA modifiers than A-s? And so, if I’ve gotten, let’s just say, all A+s, yet I’m reporting flat As – because that’s all I know – am I being somehow wronged?

Many cc’s don’t give +'s or -'s. Regardless of whether yours does or not, whatever your grade report or unofficial transcript says is what you record. Odds are, if you actually earned an A+ or A- from a school that uses a + - system, it would be shown as such on your grade report.

CC GPA- 3.0-3.2 (depends on my last semester grades)
I have 4 C’s on my transcripts, 2 I got when taking CC classes while I was in HS.
IGETC Complete, Major Requirements Complete
Cal= Peace and Conflict Studies Major
UCLA= Poli Sci Major
UCDavis= Poli Sci- Public Policy Major

EC= 4 Executive Positions in CC Student Government, 200 hours in Community Service at a kid’s museum, Work part time.
Extras: Minority, First Generation College Student, Parents don’t work(they’re ill), in Transfer Program, in the Honors Program, in EOPS.

Do you guys think my lack of GPA will be saved by my ECs?

@ohaiyaz: I’ve seen a few CCers’ stats where they had a pretty low GPA but a good amount of ECs but ): I don’t recall seeing any of them get into the top tier UCs… sorry if I sound very discouraging!

At your current GPA, i think your in at UCR. (Consider Tag? only requires at 3.0) As for UCSB & UCSD, i think your a coin flip (with a better chance at UCSB than UCSD IMO.) For USC & UCI biz admin. its a long shot. Both those programs are super competitive. What’s your projected GPA by the of Fall?
