2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

I know Psych is SUPER impacted at UCLA, don’t think they have a CogSci major.

Would be cool to get into LA but my GPA looks low for Psych…

Sorry for the double post, but I just missed the edit window,

I guess to be more clear - I have all the pre-reqs for LA and only 1 for SD. D:
Are pre-reqs going to kill my chances at SD and GPA kill my chances at LA?

@ zereshk if LA is your first choice then you might want to pick cogsci as your alt major and youll probably get in if you have the TAP program at your school. Dont Worry too much about pre-req you dont need them all. I got in last year missing alot of them. And this year im applying again with 5 pre-req left to do

edit: LA does have cogsci major, that was my alt major when i applied last year but i didnt need it since my major wasnt impacted.

hey everyone, while i live in florida and on planning to a university in florida, is anyone here from OOS looking to transfer into a UC? i was considering it but with OOS fees, it seems nearly impossible.

@tomatoman is 3.4 - 3.6 a competitive enough GPA if I have all pre-reqs complete [for the impacted psych major]?
Unfortunately I did not do the TAP program at my school.

GPA: 3.16-3.28 (after this semester)
Major: Managerial Economics at UC Davis (non-impacted and also a pre-major)

I have abupward trend (from a 2.6-3.1)

I’ve also heard that non-impacted majors are much easier to get into at UC Davis. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey Vikram, have you checked out last years acceptance threads to UCD? there’s a ton! Since I don’t know much about UCD, check out the threads. I’m assuming admission decisions will be the same as last years.

Hey EggyHam. Yeah I’ve checked all of them out! It seems like the 3.0-3.3 range is the most uncertain. I’ve seen a lot of sub 3.2 GPAs admitted to UCD. Oh btw, the fact that we can only TAG to one college makes it easier for us non-TAG applicants (especially for UCSD) because we won’t get pushed out by all the TAG applicants. Waitlists have been implemented along with alternate majors. I think we stand a chance!

Do any of you know if a 3.2, for Global Cultures with most pre-reqs for UCI or Linguistics and Asian Language and Culture for UCLA, good enough?

Vikram! BIG TIME. Last year they were FLOOOOODED with TAG applicants…that’s why people with OKAY GPA’s like us will stand a chance…a good chance  By the way…tryyyy your hardest to get to at least a 3.28…if you get rejected, take a ton of winter classes and use them for appeal. Sorry iwillflyby, I don’t think a 3.2 will get you into UCLA…but I’m pretty darn sure you’re in at UCI. Is it impacted at UCI? If not…you’re GOOD to go.

I don’t think it’s impacted in either school. Dang, I can only get that 3.2 from a 2.1 last year. I will have all pre-reqs done, TAP certified, IGETC too, maybe even Alpha Gamma Sigma and Scholar. Linguistics club too and will get myself involved with research.

TAP CERTIFIED? That’s GOOD. Did you look at last years thread? Because your GPA isn’t bad since you’re tap certified.

Last years thread?

Yeah! UC’s are pretty much enrolling the same amount of students they enrolled last year. Check out UC OFFICIAL 2011 TRANSFER ACCEPTED REJECTED THREAD. There’s a ton.

Can I get a link? I can’t seem to find it. I was looking around earlier and I found some posts but not a dedicated thread.

Hi, I’m a community college transfer who would really like to go to UCLA.

major: biochem
gpa: 4.0

classes completed by end of fall:
english 1&2
psych 1
calc 1,2 and multivariable
physics: mechanics, e&m, thermodynamics/optics/waves

and possibly one more gen ed class like maybe a history or sociology class

No extracurriculars/sports, no honors, no TAP, no IGETC, no highschool diploma or grades, no GED(only a CHSPE cirtificate), no SAT’S or AP’S

Other:
I have a sad/impressive story about chronic pain and illness through most of my life
I have started working in a prestigious biochemistry research lab at ucla about 30 hours a week

my writing is average, and my essays will probably be good but not at all great or amazing

my worries:
that i have almost no GE classes (only 2 english and i psych and possibly one more by end of spring)
that i have no highschool diploma or GED (only a chpe cirtificate)

if anyone has an honest insight as to my chances, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!

I have the CHSPE certificate also. It shouldn’t be a problem according to my counselor. I graduated high school early and now I’m a 17 year old CC sophomore. I’ll be 18 years old when I start as a junior. Good luck

Wow. That’s awesome. You’re fine. Don’t worry!
