Do you think I’m borderline? Or do I just have no hope for UCLA…? :(

Psych: So happy for you!!
yes I’m applying this year! Sociology major. It’s not impacted at UCSD and I have a 3.3. Wondering if I even stand a chance.

@sweet: long shot at UCLA. If you apply with a women studies/linguistics major, youll get in

^^^Denouncing the Linguistics major. Tch…

No bro. It’s just easier to get in with Linguistics. I don’t know why but it is. So ya :)

I don’t think the cutoff last year was a 3.2 for non impacted majors at UCSD. In fact, I’m nearly sure it wasnt b/c I spent a lot of time on the phone with UCSD discussing why I was wait listed for a non impacted major with a 3.4 …

But yeah, upping the minimum TAG GPA this year should allow more non taggers in the 3.4-3.6 range into the school this year.

FYI, I had friends last year who got into UCLA with a 3.6 but were rejected from UCSD for non impacted majors (like Anthropology and Applied Math).

Edit: Here is the link to last year’s UCSD acceptance thread. Check the stats and stuff.

What would you say is the minimum GPA for a Linguistics major?

@iwillflyby

At what school?

At UCLA, it’s gonna be around a 3.3-3.4, since that’s their cutoff for non-impacted majors in Letters & Science. At UCSD, I have no freakin’ clue, since their admissions process is obviously MADNESS. It’s like they’re living in Sparta 24/7 down there.

Yeah! So many people with 3.3’s got into UCSD with a nonimpacted major. What major did you apply with that you got waitlisted? My counselor said I’m 90% in (he’s usually accurate)

I think tHe main reason you got waitlisted was because of those darn flood of tag applicants. That’s why I’m assuming this year will sort of be easier for 3.3+ to get in.

Idk, it looked to me like everyone who got in last year was doing TAG. I see very few non-tagger acceptances in that thread that are under the super-high-GPA range. My major was chemistry. It’s all irrelevant now, of course. I TAG’d this year, and I have a much higher GPA so I’m not as worried as I was before. I hated UCSD last year, though.

Anyway, here are some of the acceptance posts from people with 3.0-3.6 GPAs last year. They almost all tagged, except for this one dude with a 3.14 in Comp. Engineering.

I really have no idea what they’re going to do this year, though - because the TAG GPA is so much higher (and you can only TAG to one school) I think a lot of people in the middle GPA ranges have a much better chance of acceptance.

Edit: that acceptance thread is a cluster*****, btw. I might go through it and just make a post containing only the acceptances/rejections for future reference.

Ah thanks so much for your help. I appreciate it! I’ve been through A TONNNN of these threads. Saw a ton of non-taggers with 3.3+ get accepted. Although I saw a ton of 3.2’s get rejected. Not only because I have a 3.3, but I think anyone above a 3.3 has a good shot. If they accept only people above 3.4’s, they’ll be losing a ton of money. And seriously? Waitlisted for chem? Wow. So I’m assuming you didn’t get accepted off the waitlist :/

No, but even if I had, I’m kind of glad I didn’t go. I didn’t have my physics or all of my math done, and it would have taken me longer to graduate/cost more. I think it’s best to have all of your lower division pre-reqs done, so you can be out before the Cal Grant runs out (2 years, usually). I don’t want to have to take out loans to finish my degree 'cause I ended up having to stay an extra year.

You’re right. Maybe that’s why you got waitlisted? PRE-reqs? Funny thing is your majors not impacted. So that’s a total *** moment.

updated stats =) good fall semester

GPA- 3.06 after fall is now 3.34
Major GPA - 3.0 @@ to many B’s.
IGETC - Finished
EC - intern at an app development company + work with people in a video game community to create an addon for a popular video game.
Applying to: UCSD for CompSci, UCI and UCSC for Comp Sci Game Design
TAG’D to: UCSC
Pre-req for UCSC: Done + extra
UCI: Just missing software engineering + diff. eq, but meet more than the basic requirement for admission into the major.
UCSD: Calc 3, Diff Eq, Physics 2A/2B

I couldn’t apply to any of the other uc’s since I’m like missing one of their base requirements like for SB i need physics series and for riverside missing like physics too.

I think im good for UCSC im boarderline UCI, but im not sure since CGS is new and i have most of the pre-req. UCSD im assuming will be a looooooooooooooooong shot.

If you have a 3.3 by fall, I’d say you’re good but look at last years stats for UCSD ^^^^^ it’s posted above.

is compsci still nonimpacted at ucsd? i know certain major in the engineer department is still impacted.

Nope compsci is not impacted :)

how about poly sci?

Nope! Poly Sci is not Impacted. Very unimpacted actually. Bio is extremely impacted. And it’s shocking that chemistry isn’t impacted.
