Acoustickitty123: SOCIOLOGY? UCSD? You might see me there next year. Did you TAG?

No
No TAG. 3.34 GPA by the end of Fall 2011. Do you even think I stand a chance?

I believe that because Sociology is not impacted at UCSD you might actually have a chance! Are you a CC student? & what are your extra-curricular activities…
Have you finished IGETC & all of the pre-reqs?

I hope you get in! Where else are you applying to?

Thank you!!
my entire PRE reqs are completed for UCSD. IDK I’m just freaking out because I really want to go to UCSD. I hope a 3.34 will somehow get me in. I’m also applying to UCSD, UCSB (tag) UCI, and UCR. What about you? :)

@acoustickitty Why do you think it’s a long shot? GPA? Extracurriculars? Impacted major?

I looked up the transfer stats for Soc majors at UCLA. The average GPA is 3.7. Given that my cumulative is only a 3.5, my major GPA is a 3.7? I mean, does it bear no significance on the app?

I know UCLA looks at PRE reqs and stuff, but for sure cumulative GPA is more important

Lol, I doubt that Chem at UCSD will be impacted anytime soon. Chem and physics aren’t impacted at any UC, afaik. Maybe UCI? CS is supposed to be impacted starting next year, though.

I thought sociology was impacted at UCLA, along with psych.

I know that psych majors at UCLA have it super hard - like, people are rejected with 3.8s and stuff. I’m not sure about sociology, but I was under the impression that the impacted majors are generally far more competitive than the non impacted ones.

I meant like…since maybe most bio majors won’t get into UCSD with Bio, they put Chem has their alternate major. And knowing that 90% of the school is pre-med, just sort of shocks me that Chem or even physics isn’t impacted! I have no idea about UCLA. But i wonder if sociology is impacted…someone should call and ask. I’m not applying there so ya lol :)

@asphyxiac Yup, Sociology is an impacted major there. I called them to ask if I could pursue a Psych and Soc double major, but the department said no, because they’re both impacted.

@AcousticKitty All right, thanks. I’m willing to put a gamble on it through my personal statement. :)

anyone want to help me out. thx

Transfer from a CC

applying to: UCI UCSB UCR UCSD UCD

EC’S: join some clubs and some volunteers hours

Kain: in at all. Although last year UCSD rejected a lot of 3.8’s without tag because I guess they assumed you’d get accepted to UCLA or Berk. Did you tag?

Acoustickitty123: tag riverside. what is my chance of UCSB or UCI? Thx

I think I’m good for UCLA, but do you guys think I have a decent chance for Berkeley philosophy with a 3.7-3.8 gpa? Thanks.

Lol UCSD and UCI youre in. FOR SURE.

Acoustickitty123: Yeah it actually might work! Write a killer personal statement. If you want you can send it to me on FB or something. Sociology is not impacted at UCSD. You have a shot! How’d you do in the pre-reqs? I am applying to BERK (SOC), UCLA (PSYCH), UCSD (TAG, SOC.), & UCD (PSYCH). Eekks we shall see what happens…last week of April! I hope it comes quick!

Awesome!
actually UCSD doesn’t look at personal statements. I know that for sure but thanks so much for the offer! I got A’s on all the PRE requisites. Which is good! I’ll appeal if I dont get in :)

@kitty do you know how the appeal works for transfers?

haha im so used to people referring to ME, when I see @kitty

Please help he out guys
