2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

Acoustickitty123: Thanks for your encouragement. Because of some reason, UCSB reject my tag. Is it really important to my application?

No problem! Hm…is economics impacted there? You should check outlast years threads and match your GPA with other peoples. I heard UCs are enrolling the same number of students as last year:)

guys i met with UCs rep today also attended a workshop. Basically, GPA is the most important, and prereq.

High gpa+ finished prereq + ******** PS ( almost nonsense) = accepted
a decent gpa + finished prereq+decent personal statement = will get accepted.
decent gpa+missing 1 prereq+ good personal statement = accepted
high gpa + missing 2 or 3 prereq+good personal statement = will not get accepted.
high gpa + missing 2 or 3 prereq + excellent near perfect PS = accepted

low gpa+ finished prereq + good PS = accepted.

FOR IMPACTED MAJOR SUCH AS BUSINESS, BIO…ECT…

( must must finish prereq) and a decent gpa to be competitive.

There are more, but im lazy to list them. ^^ sorry

so to sum up

gpa
prereq
ps
exp.

Major: History
GPA: 3.58
Applying to: UCLA, UCSB, UCSC, UCR
Major Pre-reqs: Complete
IGETC: Done after Spring
ECs: Little to none, except helping to start up a history club at my CC.

Solid personal statement or bust?

@ Thegiraffe

All in with a crap personal statement

for UCLA, solid PS then ur in. no big deal

@Ferrari4XD

Thanks, now I have to work on that PS haha.

Giraffe: You’re in at all. Your GPA is golden. PRE reqs done. Good stuff. Get igetc done asap!

@AcousticKitty, Just out of curiosity, why is that @TheGiraffe would be “in at all” whereas UCLA would be a reach for me when we practically have the same GPA? I just want your input, not here to start a fight. lol.

Hold up. How many W’s do you have? PRE reqs to finish?

I have 1 W, which I called UCLA undergraduate admissions to verify if it would have a negative effect on my application. The analyst said no. The only reason why W’s would look bad is if there was a pattern of W’s.

Prereqs are all done. GE’s done.

^ sweetxsimple? ur major?

if it non impacted with a gpa of 3.5 + a decent ps + finished prereq. ur in.

no big deal brother.

Hm maybe because I went through a ton of threads and realized a lot of history and art history majors got in with 3.4+. You’re good.wish I knew more about UCLA admissions.

aw i just looked at sd 3.4 min avg for acceptance. look like im out of luck. How does davis look? i think i really can only apply to davis/sc/irvine/sd

What your major again, Nguyen? I don’t keep track :0

@Ferrari4XD Eeek, sadly my major is impacted… :frowning: Don’t worry. I plan(hopefully) to get a 4.0 this Fall. :wink: 3.62… It’s getting there!

@Acoustickitty I wish too… I wish too.

@jnguyen471

3.0 is a quite low for UCSD, though CS is not impacted. The school admits to the university, though - not by major. It’s irrelevant if your major is impacted if you don’t meet the university’s standards (the GPA cutoff is anticipated to be approximately a 3.4 this year, according to the UCSD admissions rep who gave a presentation at UCSD’s Transfer Friday on November 4th, 2011).

Did you TAG to UCI? or Santa Cruz? Davis? They both have decent CS programs. SC is right up Silicon Valley’s derriere, so that’s also an upside. How much coursework have you completed?

Edit: Here is some info from Ms. Sun’s LiveJournal (Error), as it pertains to UCSD transfer admissions

There’s more info on the other universities on her page, you can go read it if you’re interested in their admissions.

@jnguyen471
do u think a 3.4 will do it?

Asphy: I talked to a UCSD admissions officer and they said they won’t know the GPA cutoff until they review ALL the applications. last year I remember it was about a 3.25…for non impacted majors obviously. This year, according to ms Sun, UCs are prett much enrolling the same number of students as last year.Maybe majors like economics, business, chemistry, physics, etc will be a 3.4 cutoff because those are SORT OF impacted but not really. and remember, less tag applicants mean more space for “lower gpa students”. Last year so many people were rejected with 3.1, 3.2 because of the load of tag apps. We’ll see what the cutoff will be this year. I doubt it’ll be 3.4. It’s a bit too high (not because I have a 3.34). There are a lot of people applying between the 3.0-3.35 range. So this year if they rejected a 3.2, I’d understand. But 3.3+…for non impacted is not fair.

well after the fall grade update i should have a 3.35. I’ve tag to UCSC im applying to uci and ucsd, since those two are the only one i really fall into lane with pre-req. For UCI their pre-req for CGS i have everything but diff eq and software engineering. But the required for admission to the major is calc 1 and 2 and like 2 programming classes. UCSD i have igetc + most of the major pre-req done except they calc 3, diff eq, and the 2 physics class. i posted my upated stats like 2 pages back.

hey nguyn… if u can get prerqe done, ur in. Not many CS major can finished their prereq since it requires a lot of maths, but if u can finished, that will put u ahead of everyone.

they will take a 3.5+ finished prereq over 3.7 with 2 prereq missing.
