2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

3.4-3.5 Gpa
All pre reqs finished
Philosophy
Ec some clubs and work

Chances for ucla please? Thanks a lot

OK so I’m adding 1 more class next semester which changes things slightly
I am now sure(hopeful) I will have a 3.6 by the end of fall
work exp: babysitting…stuff like that
volunteer work: good, frequent
Great polisci related internships.
PS: WILL be strong. they will talk about my internship and focus on how poli sci isn’t just an academic thing for me, it’s my life, growing up a different culture and all, overcoming hardships. stereotypes blah blah
and then for “additional comments” I plan to write something along the lines of “I was going through many of the things mentioned in my PS in spring 2011 which explains the several B’s(which at the time, I was very proud of)…so I hope my upward trend, motivation, and determination to excel will be taken in to consideration”
Chance for UCLA?
(and other ucs)
Thanks in advance for you input!

@Movingunit With a 3.5 and some ecs you’ll have an okay shot, average admitted GPA for 2010 was 3.54. It will probably become more competitive though, so if there’s any way to get a club leadership position or raise your GPA some more I’d go for it.

@AB12345 You’re GPA will still be low for UCLA, but due to your ecs/internship with a strong upward trend and a really good essay I think you have a shot.

@Movingunit Based on the stats alone, you have a chance of getting in. If you really look through the grades, there isn’t that big a difference between a 3.5 and a 3.7-3.8… maybe a couple more B’s.

On the other hand, I imagine it will keep getting more difficult to transfer in as a philosophy major, as is normal of UCLA in general. The transfer applicant pool for philosophy has nearly doubled from 2002 to 2010. So in 2012 we’ll probably be trying to get in along with 400+ other people.

Thanks guys…I guess I have a 50-50 chance of getting in…better than nothing I guess. I really appreciate it guys…also would you care to give me chances at other UCs if possible? thanks again

Applying to: UCD and UCSB
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.8
ECs: correspondence specialist and treasurer for pre-health club, AGS, biology tutor, 200+ community service hours

IGETC completed. All pre-reqs will be completed by the end of Spring 2012 except organic chem.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

@Salmos, do they really look at it that way though? Because the reason my gpa (3.6 poli sci) isn’t as great as it should be is because of several Bs during a past semester. Not because of Cs or Ds or anything like that.

^

I’d consider a bunch of Bs worse than one C and all As.

Applying to: UCLA, CAL, UCSD, UCSB, UCI
Planning to do TAG for UCSB & TAP for UCLA
Major: Art History
GPA: 3.81
Will finish IGETC by the end of Spring 2012 and major pre-reqs by Fall 2011 (:
Will reach 60+ units by the end of Spring 2012 (:
ECs: Honors Program, French Club ICC officer, PTK, Honors Ambassadors ICC officer & secretary, currently volunteering at EVBoys & Girls Club teaching arts & crafts & art history

thanks in advance n__n

Really helpful thread!

-GPA: 3.78 (52.5 quarter units)

-Current Major: Biology

Work experience in a medical office (5 months)

-Essays:
Will be fine. (I hope :p)

Chance please! And Thanks!

I guess nobody wants to chance inter-UC transfers…

^ I think the problem is that most of us are transfering from a community college and know less about inter-UC transfers. Not to mention I try to only chance people in my major (philosophy) or something related b/c I really know nothing about other majors.

@Movingunit Don’t get discouraged about UCLA. You’re right around the average GPA so you’ll just have to find something that distinguishes you from the rest of the applicants who on a GPA scale are equally qualified. As for the other UC’s, I know that Berkeley takes in people by school rather than department, so I think it would be harder to get in there. You’re probably good for the rest of the UCs if you have the prereqs complete. There’s no reason to not have them done for a major that only requires 2-4 of them.

@AB12345 I’m not sure bud. I guess only the people who evaluate your application know for sure. But the way I see it, a C is the kind of grade you’d want to explain. Even so, I agree with Briceis in that it’s probably better to have one C than 3-4 B’s (not sure the math is adequate there though). Given that doesn’t mean you won’t get in with a few B’s. And there’s a lot more to it. I have 4 of them and with light course loads, so I might be at a disadvantage than someone who has 4 B’s but who took a full load for 4 semesters. That’s why I’m aiming for all A’s on 18 units next semester, just to show that I can do it.

Applying to: CAL, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCR, USC

No Tag

Major: Philosophy

GPA: 3.58

Major GPA: 3.6 (But still have 3 more to take)

(and my ccc only offers 3/4 of UCLA’s pre-reqs)

IGETC done by the end of Spring 2012

60 units exactly by the end of Spring 2012

ECs: Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society, Model United Nations club

Amazing upward trend.

And I will write an great essay.

I finally decided to register and contribute today instead of just lurking lol

FINALLY Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCSD (TAG), UCSB, USC, STANFORD

Major: Psychology/Biopsychology (where it’s available)

GPA: 4.0 - but here’s the deal…I had family issues/personal problems during my first 2 years of CC. Rather than withdrawing, I enrolled in classes thinking I could handle them but I always ended up quitting half-way through. This resulted in lots of F’s and W’s on my transcript. I took a year off, returned to school in Summer 2010 and have since repeated all my classes, finished IGETC, and will have all pre-reqs done by Spring 2012. So even though I technically have a 4.0 I don’t know how much my past will hurt my chances. I already have essays planned out and I don’t have any trouble with writing (originally a Journalism major). I’ll have around 75-80 units completed by end of Spring 2012 not including some AP credit.

ECs: Not very much. I’m a member of psychology club but I don’t hold any positions. I volunteered for 2 months this past spring at the local animal shelter. It was an excellent place to study behaviors and learning but since I wasn’t there very long I don’t know how much it will help me. I’ve been on the dean’s list every session since returning but I think that is implied with the GPA. I have other awards from HS but I don’t think they are relevant now since its been 4 years. Should I include them anyways?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

uppppppppp

can someone chance me? my post is on page 3

uppppppppppp

are you a poly sci major? @ flobot

yes

…,

we def might be seeing each other next year @ UCD. i am a poly sci major as well and am TAG’ing to UC Davis as well. ■■■■■ with your GPA you are def in on TAG, so i won’t waste your time and my WPM by going into that.

as far as UCB/UCLA, you’re GPA is extremely stellar, you are IGETC certified (no interest in UCSD?), you have pre reqs done, (■■■■■ reading your posts makes me give a flat face as I am typing because your GPA/Skills are beautiful), you have extra’s, which I don’t even have, I say you have a very good chance at UC Berkeley, as far as UCLA goes, id say its fair too, but you may want to ask many others here who are UCLA elites, they will let you know for sure.

either way you’re into a great college next year, just stay strong pal.

congrats.
