i know squat about UC but have visited tons of film schools. chapman was definitely a stand out, the studios were amazing and if you ask ahead of time visitors can watch students directing films inside the in-door studios.

though i hear their acceptance rate is something like 5%, including transfers.

the thing about chapman application (when i considered going) is that they require you to submit a piece of work showcasing your talents, im not sure if transfer students are supposed to do the same. i understand that plays a major factor into your chances, more so than GPA.

USC is kind of overrated, and the whole neighborhood is sort of dumpy. definitely night and day compared to the OC.

without seeing your talent - i.e, shortfilm, script, e.t.c…no one here can tell you your chances.

but as you should know film production is hugely competitive. have a back up/alternative because the schools you listed are all impacted for film.

SFKid, I’m definitely aware of the difficulties in transferring to a film school. Broadcast journalism has been my main backup for a lot of these schools (Chapman is also really good in that department). Chapman still wants that two-minute video showcasing your talents as well. It’s definitely a tricky one; I applied right out of high school and it’s tough.

Regardless, I just keep working hard each and every day. Thanks for chancing!

UCs: UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCSD, UCSD
Major: CHINESE B.A.
Current GPA: 3.63
Number of transferable units taken: Over 60 by Spring.
IGETC: 3-4 courses left. Will be done by Spring semester.
Top Choice: UCLA

Chenjiaxing…you have a good chance at UCLA and Berkeley, although its easier to get into UCLA w/strong GPA and Berkeley looks holistically at essay. I’d say 80% in UCLA and 65% in at Berkeley. Your GPA is good enough for other UC’s. Good Luck!

major: English/art history

GPA: 3.8

Completed IGETC & Pre-Reqs!
I have a lot of great extra-curricular activities related to major.
Been at CC for three years!
My personal statement is like a 7-8/10.

@SilverRex: You have a good shot at all the schools applying to. Your extra-curricular activities look good as well as your GPA! Keep it up. UCLA has an amazing program.I hope you get in! :]

@Acoustickitty123: I am sure you will get accepted to Riverside and Irvine. I am not familiar with sociology when it comes to Santa Barbara. However, you might have a good chance at UCSD! I am sorry you weren’t able to TAG with them this year. Good luck! I hope to see you in one of my classes next fall! :]

@ChenJiaXing: I think we have talked before in a forum. I think you have a great shot at UCLA, not familiar with Berk though (statistics aren’t posted on website…) I hope you get into UCLA & Berk! Good luck! :]

Also, glad you didn’t apply to UCLA with a Sociology major! Their cutoff last year was I believe a 3.82. My friend had a 3.79 two years ago and got rejected! You have a very good chance at UCLA with your GPA. In at all!

@Acoustickitty123: Do you know what SD sociology is for non-TAG? I believe that Sociology is not as impacted at SD. I think you have a good shot. How were your PS?

Well for UCLA psych it’s very IMPACTED.
Stats from Fall 2011:
Applied: 3.37 average
Admitted: 3.81 average

Current College: De Anza College
Applied to: UCSD, UCI, UCD, UCSC, Cal poly SLO, sjsu, sdsu, east bay(hayward)
Major: Computer Science/engineering
Current GPA: 3.42(UC transferable)/3.44(overall). should go up to or nearly 3.5 at the end of fall qtr
Completed IGETC! will complete all of Pre-Reqs for UCSD if they offer the second course of assembly language during spring qtr…
Did good amount of extra-curricular activities
had an internship related to my major
My personal statement is decent. not the best thing lol
on my transcript it says i will be awarded my AA degree and Programming in C/C++ certificate
i have two Ws, but i replaced the first one with a B and the other one with an A+

@Psych: Woah really?! I thought psych wasnt as impacted as sociology at UCLA as for UCSD, it’s not impacted at all! I saw someone get in last yeah with a 3.27 NO TAG. Awesome my PS was pretty good but UCSD won’t look at that. Your GPA is great but how are your ECs and PS?

I was born and lived in California my entire life except the past 2 years while I have been in community college. I moved because of financial issues and want to go back. I pointed this out in my application…maybe it will make them think of me as an in-state transfer? lol

Applying to: UCLA, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, San Diego

CC GPA: 4.0 (math and physics major so the classes are on the level of calc 3, diff-eq, calc-based physics, linear algebra, chemistry, biology, java programming, etc.)
Also, I know I am applying from OOS, but I will have all of the types of classes they want completed as shown on IGETC

ECA’s:
-Dance/gymnastics training/performances
-Chamber singers, baritone section leader, performed in musicals, concerts
-Math/Physics tutor at my CC
-3 hrs a week teaching adult learners English as a 2nd language (comm service)
-Phi Theta Kappa member
-Applying for Department of Energy Summer Internship which I think I have a good chance of getting

Essays- I think very good, other people do too. Wrote about passion and drive for science and specifically physics for the first prompt, and wrote about my contrasting passion and experience in art through my time spent with dance in 2nd prompt

@Acoustickitty123: Yeah, it is very impacted! I am hoping you get in to SD! :] My personal statement altogether was 604 words and I was very clear and straight to the point. Which is what they look for…from what I heard. I talked about my volunteering experience at the hospital and how my father’s passing shaped me as a person. My extra-curricular activities are good, I have a ton of volunteering, work experience, activities. I think I am a well-rounded applicant. What about your PS and EXC?

@MrMustache: You have a shot at all. How was your personal statement? I don’t know the stats for UCSD…do you know? Good luck! :]

@Der3k7: You will get in to all of the schools you applied for. A 4.0 is definitely stellar and I feel like you are a well-rounded applicant! :]
