2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

Thanks for your feedback. I sure hope so, I would be so happy to study at Berkeley.

Chance?

Applied to: UCB/UCLA/UCD
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.91 (1 B in a history course FFUU)
Pre-Reqs: all done, IGETC done during spring semester…
ECs: Honors program…?
Work Experience: Some, but not related to major…
Essays: pretty decent, explained why i don’t have much experience…

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSB, UCI, UCSC

Major: Psychology

GPA: 3.91

IGETC will be done
Prereqs for LA and Cal will be done
Most prereqs for the other UCs will be done.

EC:
Gay-Straight Alliance officer
Women’s empowerment club officer/co-founder
Psychology club officer
Volunteer work with children who have autism
Studying American Sign Language/involvement in the Deaf community (a Cal admissions counselor said I could put that down)
PTK

Work: None.

Essays: Relatively strong, I reckon.

So nervous. I hope having no work experience doesn’t look bad. :frowning: Chance?

@Psych: Seems like you had a meaningful personal statement. I’m hoping you get into UCLA and UCSD and all the other UCs. :slight_smile: my personal statement was about my teacher who was a part of the skid row population. Personal statements and extra curriculars won’t matter since UCSD doesn’t look at it! Woo. God I hope I get into SD. I’ll probably see you on campus haha :D

@benyvaio

Love, you already know you’re in everywhere. But just in case you don’t: you’re in everywhere.

@newsoul

I would say that you’re in everywhere except UCLA, and that you have a strong chance at UCLA b/c all of your pre-reqs are done.

I am currently attending Sac City College. Applied for 2012 admission.

I plan to transfer to: UCLA, UCSD-(TAG approved), UCB, UCD, USC.
Major: Anthropology (will finish my last major prep course by Spring 2012 - prior to transfer)
GPA: 3.71 UC Transferable Courses
Units: 63
Essay: 9/10

Extracurricular activities & Work Experience- Lots of work experience, volunteering, founder of a club, member of many other clubs at community college; worked 25+/week as security guard for 2 years; member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, President’s Highest Honor Roll x3, EOPS student, RISE

Background: Low income family, mother disabled, father deceased.

Thank you (:

@Akylahunter

Come on! You know you’re in at all of them. I know people who have gotten into UCLA Anthropology with a 3.3 - I’m not sure about Cal, but a 3.7 is likely more than enough, especially if your essay is good and you’re hella poor.

does anyone know if I can change campus choices?

@asphyxiac

Thx, for the honest feedback.

@benyvaio: I believe you are in at all! Good luck! :]

@newsoul: You’re in everywhere! YAAAAY! Lucky you. Good luck. :]
I am applying also UCLA psych! Please chance me when you get a chance. Post: #931

can you transfer to UCs after fresh year?
plan on attending nyu-poly for my first year then i wish to leave home and go away.

@Akylahunter: Totally in at ALL! :]

@asphyxiac: Want to give me some feedback? Post: #931! Thanks.

@kitty: unfortunately you can’t
@fortunatezeal: yes, as long as you finish 60 units by the end of spring. UC’s don’t offer many spots for sophomore transfer, if not next to none. If you have lots of AP’s, or you are committed to take ~25 units a semester then it’s possible.

@UCkittychen: Yes you can! Go to UC APP online and you can do it from there! :] Call the 1-800 number. I am sure you still have time!

@sparkyboy:

thank you. will plan my schedule according to this info.

Up for another chance.

Applied to: UCLA, Cal, UCSD, UCD
Major: Linguistics
GPA: 3.91
IGETC: Complete
EC: Nothing to brag about, just volunteer work at a shelter and AGS, + a part time job.
Personal Statements: 7/10 (One is probably better than the other)

What worries me is the classes that I’m taking. There are not much “Set in stone” courses that assist gives me to transfer to any of these schools. It’s very vague and just mentions “introduction course to linguistics and student should be familiar in areas such as anthropology, philosophy, blah blah” and other vague stuff. So far I’ve only taken an intro to linguistics course, and 2 different foreign languages (major pre-req) and a few scattered courses in anthropology and such.

The fact that it’s so vague makes me not feel too confident in my chances because I don’t know if these are the courses they are looking for.

What do you guys think? :/

psychbruin, not sure if srs.

@PsychBruin2012

Based on your GPA and completion of pre-reqs, I’d say that you’re in at all of them (for sure), except for UCLA - though you’re probably a strong candidate. For UCLA Psych, the majority of applicants have pre-reqs completed and have very high GPAs (3.8-4.0), something that I’m sure you’re aware of. At that point, it simply becomes a matter of extra-curricular activities and the personal statement. Obviously, if you had a GPA of 3.8+, less emphasis would be placed on extra-currics. Participating in some sort of TAP/transfer program (CCCP Scholars/SITE) helps a lot. You’re the best judge of whether or not your application will set you apart from the other candidates. It’s difficult for me to give you an accurate guess because so much becomes subjective after you’re past the GPA/pre-req completion point.

Again, it’s hard for me to say. Best of luck.

@iMunster

I think that you’re good for UCLA Linguistics if you’ve completed their requirements (2 years of 1st foreign language, 1 year of second, intro psych course, intro cultural anthro course, intro linguistics couse).

I have no clue what the requirements are for other campuses. If you get into UCLA, though, I think you should go there. Excellent linguistics department, from what I’ve heard.

@UCKittychen after going to visit UCB I sort of want to apply there too. Out of UCLA and UCB, which is the one that usually requires EVERY major’s pre-reqs done? and which one is the one that looks at the application wholistically?
