2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

@asphyxiac

You think I have a better chance at Berkeley than UCLA? Berkeley is the higher ranking school. I would imagine it would be the opposite…?

hey guys, what are my chances in getting into UCLA?
Going to a Cali Community College
female, middle eastern
GPA: 3.3, but applying in fall’12 and trying to get it past a 3.5
Major: Comparative Lit
Pre-reqs: finished
IGETC: finish by spring’13
EC: president for a religious club in one semester, volunteer more than 100 hrs at local community, doing TAP, getting an intern at a newspaper, teaching journalism at my old private school. Also apart of Honor Society.

Income: $190,000+ (does this even help?)

Im also doing a TAG with UCI, but i really want to get into UCLA. What are my chances?

@iMunster

I’m pretty sure u will get in too all campuses. You have extremely high GPA even though ur personal statement is okey.

@smaryw

Which CC are you attending and also how well did you write ur personal statement?

Im going to Sac City and i havent written my personal statement yet since im applying next fall.

Oh kool I’m also attending Sac City. My best recommendation is try boosting up your GPA and start early on your personal statement.

@iMunster
Why you tripping, you should a shoo-in. High GPA and the “not so set to stone” list makes it more of a recommendation rather than a requirement. I’m jealous of you, because my low GPA might get denied.

Everyday I check these forums, but I feel as if I am on pins and needles as the day passes. I keep wondering the likelihood of being accepted to the following schools. If anyone would be courteous enough to chance me, I would appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Granted, I know that this does not imply the actual results, but good or bad it would sort of help me with what to expect. At the moment, I am not feeling that optimistic I will make it anywhere besides UCR. And my dream school has always been UCSD.

I Applied to the following UC’s: UCR (tag), UCSD, UCI, and UCD
I attended a CC in California.
Male, Mexican
GPA: 3.42 After Fall 3.5
Major: Sociology/Law and Society
IGETC: Finished
EC: Cross Country Captain in High School, French Club President in High School, MVP of Cross Country in High School, Honors Enrichment Program (Present), S.T.E.M (Science Technology Engineering Math) program, Volunteers for Meals on Wheels delivering food to elders, Volunteers in Neighborhood Watch, Art Club at the Community College, etc.

People that have read my essay describe it as cogent and very unique to my major. Of course, I am not too sure how strong it is. So let’s assume it is decent.

@ cookthepuppy: definitely in @ UCR, UCI & UCD very good chance, & UCSD-- sorry, I’m not so sure about it but granted with your ECs and your nonimpacted major, I think you have a shot there as well.

@ mmsiphone & psychbruin2012: thanks for the chance! :smiley:

@psychbruin2012: I’d say you’re in at CAL, SD, and Davis, but considering UCLA’s stiff competition in psych, I’d say you’re probably borderline but you still have a definite shot, nonetheless :smiley:

soo does anyone what my chances are at CAL with a 3.8 as an English major? It’s my dream school T__T thank you thank you

@Cookthepuppy: Same major as you. 3.333 GPA after fall. My counselor said I’m 90% in at UCSD because sociology is not impacted whatsoever. He’s usually correct when he chances people. I’d say you’re in. Last year with all those tag applicant…someone got in with a 3.27 NO TAG. So dont worry.

this is my first semester of college. I’m using AP credits and classes taken during the summer to fulfill the unit requirements

College: 4-year university (out of state)
Schools: Cal, UCLA
GPA: Will be either a 3.89 or 4.0 (depends if I get a B in a certain class)
Major: Economics
EC’s: not a lot

Advantages: Out of state student not applying for financial aid, high family income
Disadvantages: My personal statements were very weak, and in my second essay I came off as very narcissistic and tool-like. Not very many/significant ECs because I am in my first semester of college

@godsgift, ehhh

i say very low % for cal,

and around 50% for econ ucla. As long its not BUSINESS ECON :D.

when is it that we stay up all night waiting for decisions to post?

@newsoul

Higher ranking doesn’t necessarily mean more competitive with regard to certain majors. I mean, I’m not an adcom, that’s just my best guess.

UCKITTY: Depending on what school is your top choice :P

in my position, they all are.

@ iwillflyby

You have way more linguistics related classes than me though. What is your GPA?

@iMunster: Great stats! I think you are in at all! :]

@asphyxiac: Thank you so much for chancing me. It gave me a better understanding as to where I stand. I have a lot of extra-curricular activities and my personal statement was like a 7.5/10. We shall see! Where do you want to go?

@cookthepuppy: I TAGed with UCSD as a Soc major. Honestly, you have a REALLY good shot at all the schools you applied to! Hope to see you in SD! :]

@sunnybaNANA: Thank you for chancing me! Everyone has been telling me that I have a better shot at Berk than LA. If I did end up getting accepted to both, I have no idea what school I would attend! Anyways, basically for an English Major for Berk, I’d say you have a very good chance of getting in. Do you know the stats by any chance?

@iMunster During application, 3.09, but I have 27 units atm and I’m getting mostly A’s and B’s on them. I have TAP too, I think, unless I don’t finish the scholar’s assignment tonight.

@ sunnybaNANA, Acoustickitty123, PsychBruin2012
Thank you very much for chancing me. Seriously, ever since I hit submit on the application–I can’t help, but worrying about all of this (I am sure everyone is worrying.) Your reply has really brought my stress level down.

@ Acoustickitty123, I hope we both make it :slight_smile:
@ PsychicBruin2012…It seems you want to go to Cal or UCLA. And since those are your top choices, I really wish you the best of luck from the bottom of my heart. Since you tagged to UCSD though, I am pretty sure you have a competitive GPA. And regardless, the important thing to keep in mind is you are going to a great school no matter what. In the event that UCSD accepts me, and you choose to go to UCSD–I will see you there :)
