I love when people post nearly PERFECT stats and ask others to chance them…

Hey all I’m new to this site but I’d love to get feedback from peers.

GPA: 4.0 (will most likely drop to 3.83 after summer session, very tough Chem class)

Psychology major.
Will have all major pre reqs completed by spring 2012 and IGETC as well.

Applying to Berkeley,UCLA(tap), ucsd(tag), and ucr.

Ec’s: honors advocate for MVC all last year. Working 20+ hours a week. Member of honors program and participated in uci honors conference.

Forgot to mention that my choices rank
1.Berkeley
2.UCLA
3.UCSD
4.UCR

Would appreciate feedback for every university.

@SBaz45

Hmm with a mere 4.0 I’d consider UCLA and UCB far out reach. But I think you’ll be okay with UCR

i think i get you now mr. ryan. ■■■■■.

Thanks Ryan, I appreciate the sarcasm lol.

well why did you even ask, you know UCR will basically beg you to come.

UCLA/UCB is probably more in your liking. huge difference from UCR

I just wanted to see if I could improve on anything because grades aren’t everything. And UCR is only an option because it’s the local UC for me. I really want Berkeley and I’d take as much advice as I can.

■■■■■ if you TAG to UCR, which is the only UC on your list which is TAG eligible then you will be perfectly fine. bother us with your UCB/UCLA questions.

I don’t have a counselor at my cc… More of an overworked case worker. Everything I’ve done has been self-researched. I just wanted to get a second opinion.

Nobody is ever guaranteed for admission to UCB; but I’d say you have a very good chance. The other schools I’d say 100 percent.

To be honest, I think this forum has been my counselor throught my years at CC so ask on.

Any Phil. majors?

^ Yeah, I’ll chance ya for the UC’s. I don’t know anything about USC.

From UCSD to the right you’re probably in if you’ve got the prereqs for each of them, which don’t really vary much for Philosophy anyway. I think if you add up the phil prereqs for all UC’s excluding those with no articulation, you’re looking at like 5 classes.

You have a chance for Berkeley and UCLA also, but in this case you’re up against people who have similar stats (some will be in the 3.8-4.0 range).

How many and which philosophy classes have you taken? For philosphy, the best advice I can give you is to show a genuine interest in the subject. Not very enlightening, I know. But take as many phil. classes as you can. What are your plans for when you finish your B.A?

@ Salmos

Thanks for chancing me!

As far as the phil. classes I’ve taken three and they are: Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, and Ancient Philosophy.

This coming fall semester I’m taking Logic and Critical Thinking and Phil. of Religion - Western. These are the last two phil. classes available at my ccc. Symbolic Logic and The Theory of Knowledge (what ucla wants) is offered at a local ccc, but I don’t have priority there so every semester they’re waitlisted before I can get to them.

I’ve been thinking to maybe volunteer at the Philosophical Research Society to show them I’m interested?

My plan is to go to law school (typical I know).

Applying to: UCLA, CAL, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCR, UCSC,
Planning to do TAG: If I dont list my transferable music class I have a high enough gpa to do tag’s if I cant, then no tag’s for me. Stupid online class ![]()
Major: Linguistics- UCB,UCLA,UCSC,UCR, Italian - UCB, UCSC, UCSD, Language studies, International Relations/Studies.
GPA: 3.0 - with horrible music class grade, 3.4 without music grade. I plan to retake the class on campus.
Will finish IGETC by the end of Spring 2012 and major pre-reqs by Fall 2011 (:
Will reach 60+ units by the end of Spring 2012 (:
ECs: I did over 100 hours of volunteer work in high school and I got the Presidents Award for Community Service. Did one year of community service first year of ccc and now I work 35+ hours of work a week at an grocery store -no time to volunteer :/. I help tutor in math at my ccc and outside of college. I attend seminars of language studies and stuff like that.

thanks in advance :)

oh and I forgot to mention I want to apply for Davis too - for Linguistics and Italian

Any advice on how to get an internship of some sort? I’m looking for psychology internships but most are for graduate work

3.0-3.1 GPA by spring 2012
Applying(in the fall) to CSULA, CSUF, CSULB, CSUCI, CSUSM, SDSU, SFSU, SLO, CPP, UCSB, UCLA, UCM, UCB, UCR, UCSD, UCSC(TAG)
IGETC done by spring 2012
Anthropology Major

Didn’t do too well last fall, so this upcoming fall I’m retaking all my F’s which are two classes. Just re-took an F in poli sci. Getting an A or B for sure.

Thanks. My only concerns is that my projected major GPA (3.67) is relatively low, and my lack of honors classes.
