2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

Anyone out there mind chancing me for acceptance into a Biology major for the Fall '13 quarter? I’ll be applying this upcoming Fall semester.

GPA: 3.6~3.7
Major: Molecular Biology (impacted major @ UCSD)
Alt Major: Biochem - Pharmacological Science
Pre-reqs done: BILD 1+2+3, MATH20 A+B+C, CHEM6 A+B+C
Unfinished Pre-reqs: Chem140 A+B, Chem143A, Physics
Yrs at CC: 2
Tag: Yes
IGETC: Will have completed by Spring

1) UCSD will be highly selective in which transfer students will be admitted into the Biology program and with that said, is my GPA in the safe zone?

2) I know i haven’t completed OCHEM but those should be last priority because they’re upper div courses. What worries me is that i have not touched physics… will that lower my chances?

Current GPA: 4.0 (however, still pending on my summer classes)
Applying to: UCLA, UC Berkeley (LA is my #1 choice)
TAG: UC Irvine, UC San Diego
Major: Anthropology B.A
Pre-Reqs (For LA): 3/4 (One is not offered at my cc or any cc in the metropolitan area)
Pre-Reqs (For Berkeley): 3/3
IGETC and 62 units finished by Spring 2012
Volunteer work at my church, and work about 25-30 hours a week.

lecoeur I don’t even know why youre worried lmao. You just better make sure you write an essay that shows youre not a robot with that 4.0 you know? I have seen quite a few cases where people with 3.9-4.0 dont get in.

Current GPA: 3.5 , hopefully 3.7 at end of semester
Applying to: UCLA(TAP), UCSB(TAG), UCB (LA #1 choice)
Major: Cognitive Science B.S. @UCSB psychology B.A.
Pre-Reqs: @UCLA 6/8 @UCSB 2/3
IGETC and 60 Units Finished by Spring 2012
Work Part time, Volunteer at food bank

Help! I need opinions on this…

Major: Geography
IGETC: Will be fulfilled by Spring 2012 (1 class)
Pre Reqs: Will be fulfilled by Spring 2012 (1 class)
By the end of Spring 2012 I will have just over 60 units.

My current GPA is 4.0 with 37 units. Should I apply this year or wait another year before applying?
My concerns are having only around 70 units by the end of Spring 2012, and having pre reqs and igetc completed by Spring 2012.

That’s more than enough…
You should apply this year. With those stats, I don’t see any reason why you should be rejected from any school…

Hi everyone!

Transferring in as a Junior. I’m a CC right now! I’ll have about 70-75 units by spring 2012!

GPA: 3.46/3.53 by end of summer; 3.5-3.6 by end of fall 2011 (NO C’s! …somewhat frequent B’s)
Schools:UCLA, Cal, UCD (TAG), UCI, UCSD
Major:International Development Studies/International Studies/International Relations
Pre-Req’s/IGETC: 1/2 way done; will be finished by all by spring 2012 before transferring
E/C: Currently volunteer at a women’s shelter, museum and intl ngo for women (planning to take on a internship this fall relating to my major hopefully!)
Other: leadership program in 2009 as a junior in h/s; will also go to Thailand this summer for a reality tour on human trafficking
Work: I did do a year of work during my senior year of high school
Clubs: will join AGS this fall (also had a bunch in high school)

First Generation Student
Dean’s List

Chances? or anything I can improve to be accepted to UCLA? That’s my first choice!

Thanks so muchhhh!

My advice: don’t do that. Save yourself $75 for a couple of useful textbooks.
Your stats looks good tho. Your ECs are amazing already…
Umm, maybe my eyes fail, but I never know UCLA has any program that has “International” as its prefix?
I say you are in for UCI and UCD. SD 70%. LA I don’t know since I have never heard of such program. Cal, well, maybe 50-50 :D

UCLA has an international development studies major, heard its very competitive though! and isn’t AGS isn’t useful? its only 15 bucks per semester and I don’t have an clubs on me other then high school clubs …THANKS snipehunter!

Very sorry about that! For some reasons I never see the major listed here [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2010 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof10_mjr.htm). I dunno if you have see this before but maybe this can help: [Transfer Major Prep - International Development Studies - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/lsmajors/intl_dev.htm).

AGS is well, I joined that last semester and I got absolutely nothing from that club. Meetings were held every week, only a hands full of people attended. People just join to actually have something to mention in their apps. For me, that’s LAME. Just my two cents on it though. You can try if you want, but I doubt you will get anything useful from it. Me? I’d rather spend $75 (at my school 2-year membership is $75) at Walmart buying a couple of Xbox 360 Games lol

^ thanks for the heads up, following that atm! IDS is super impacted, they keep cutting acceptance every year BOOO! Also, I think I might not join AGS… appreciate your input ^__^

Chance me please!

GPA:2.97 gpa
Junior Applicant (92 units) Hoping to do well in fall!

Major:Environmental Science

Schools: (NO TAG)
UCB,UCLA,USC,UCI,UCR,UCD,UCSB, Cal Poly Pomona
^i know i am aiming for the stars

Pre-Reqs: All finished by Spring 2012

EC:
-Worked over 2 yrs as a part time medical assistant and 3 months as a p/t dental assistant (currently working both jobs).
-Student researcher for CalTech (6 months long).
-Volunteer at children’s hospital.
-Currently another internship in progress.

Note:
-My high school academic GPA was 2.15 (Student Athlete).
-My first two years at CC I had a 2.4 GPA taking mostly GE’s. Since then I have brought it up to a 3.97 with mostly science classes with the exception of a few English classes.
-Received one C in chemistry during inter session which was just too much for me.
-First generation student.

Thank you all for help!

"My first two years at CC I had a 2.4 GPA taking mostly GE’s. Since then I have brought it up to a 3.97 with mostly science classes with the exception of a few English classes. "

I actually meant to say 2.97 not 3.97.

To UC Berkeley from CCC
Major: Political Sci
4.0 GPA as of now (fingers crossed)
60 units by end of fall w/ IGETC and all major prereqs
EC: 20 hrs work/wk office job, about 100 hrs total community service over the course of CC by end of fall and a leadership position from HS that I’ll include. I blog for an online politics newspaper. Honors, Dean’s List, PTK

In-state transfer

You think I should seek some major-related work experience or something exciting to put in my personal statement? Poli sci internships that fit into my work schedule are tough to come by.

Anyway, chance me please :)

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSB (TAG), UCSC
GPA: 3.92
IGETC: Will be done by Fall
Major: Psychology

*First quarter: 3.95 (one A-); second quarter: two F’s, one W, one P, and one C (in a low unit class) because of a medical reason; third quarter: took time off to get better; ever since: kept a 4.0, and of course got A’s in the classes I retook. So, hopefully it’ll be okay? I’ll explain why in my app…

EC’s worry me too…

 • Psychology Club: Member Winter 11 – Spring 11, Vice President (elected) Fall 11 – Spring 12
 • Gay Straight Alliance: Member Fall 11 – Spring 11, Secretary (elected) Fall 11
 • Reading Partners: started working with kids with reading difficulties last spring, but I’ve only gotten 5 hours so far, and I can’t continue until fall…
 • OSF: Working with kids with special needs, started very reccently, only 3 hours so far, but I think I can rack up at least 30 before apps. I don’t know if it’s enough.
 • Can I write working with my little brother who has atypical autism? My parents worked with a doctor to get training in a type of therapy for him. They’ve taught me and I work with him a couple hours a week. Does that count for anything?

Essays: I think I’ll write about finding psychology through having an brother on the autistic spectrum and through watching my deaf brother struggle with language development. I want to major in psychology/enter the mental health field to give back to people with autism and hearing loss who are struggling socially or struggling with accepting their diagnosis. I don’t know what to write about for the second essay, though…Possibly about volunteering at a Deaf camp when I was younger or taking sign language/falling in love with the culture.

What are going to be her safety, match, and reach schools?

PS -if anything is unclear, feel free to ask! Thanks again!

Pinoi,

tell her to screw Sac State, SFSU,SJSU & CSU EB. & out of states

UCLA,UCI,UCD,USF,USD.

I’m saying Yay to UCI & UCD. UCLA, USF, USD in order for what she should aim for.

Nursing? hmmm. you should try to get her to change that, let her know about wait lists and stressful competition & things. She’s still young, AIMing for those UC’s, grants her a large opportunity other than nursing. I know how flips are with nursing though, so no shame.

What I have on my table:
GPA: 4.0, Completed 55 units so far, will graduate with 82-85 units

Major: UCB Economics or UCLA bus.econ/econ (Need help deciding)

Schools: TAP, IGETC, TAG
UCB, UCLA, UCI, thinking about applying to private schools…

Pre-Reqs: Finished, as well as G.E. and almost all the required classes for an associates. Forgot about the 1 unit P.E. class for my associates in Econ. which I will be taking next Spring semester.

ECs:
-Part-time tutor
-Hospice volunteer
-Research work in Mathematical Finance with my professor (in progress)
-Scholarship in Mathematics
wish I had more, I’ve been looking for an extra job since the beginning of this year :(

I don’t know what to write for my personal statement. I know UCLA/UCB is extremely competitive, I’m worried if I can even get in with such little EC’s. Especially after reading Tonio’s post.

CCC student!
UCLA - English
UC Irvine - Drama (TAG)
UC Santa Cruz - Theatre Arts
3.735 GPA, hoping to try and raise it a little more within the next semester.
Also for UCI’s TAG, does anyone know if not taking all the “recommended” pre-major courses will affect my TAG application? There are quite a few classes for me to take, and I’m not entirely sure I can fit them into the next two semesters.

Major: psychology
Gpa: 3.83
Applying to cal, ucla, ucsd
Will have all pre reqs done and 62 units by spring.
Honors classes, honors advocate plus a job.
