2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

@la157917

Sadly, that you couldn’t not TAG UCR, but I think you will have a chance to get in. I heard it is easy to get in UCR, but not sure how easy it was.

so right now, I say forget about UCI because with 3.2, you will not get in definitely. sorry.

If we put on our applications that we had an alternate major, do we have to complete the pre-requisits for that one. Also do they look at the alternate major if u don’t get accepted to ur intended major?

could someone please chance me too…

I think you were over-ambitious and should’ve applied to some of the lower tier UCs like UCSC and UCD. UC admissions officers are very wary of applicants that fail required courses, especially if they’re part of the Math/English requirement and have to be repeated in spring where they won’t see whether or not you passed until after they make their decision.

Given the UCs you named, I think you may have a shot at UCI as an Anthropology major. According to UC statfinder, the average GPA of a CCC transfer student admitted to UCI in 2009 was a 3.43. Given recent trends due to budget cuts and an even more saturated transfer pool, you can expect that’s probably slightly higher now, maybe ~3.48-3.50. Anthropology isn’t going to be impacted so the average admitted GPA for the major is probably slightly lower than the overall transfer average. Berkeley is pretty much out of the question, UCLA would be highly unlikely. For 2011 the average admitted GPA at UCLA for the majors you applied for are Cog Sci 3.60, Anthro (BA) 3.56 or Anthro (BS) 3.65. Without TAP I’d say UCLA is out of the picture. UCSD without TAG is pretty hard to get into to. Last year UCSD had more TAG applicants than any of the UCs somewhere around 9000 and because of that the GPA cutoff for non TAG applicants was around 3.7 last year. It may not sound like a favorable option, but I think if you repeat the course and get a decent grade your overall GPA should rise back around 3.7 and you’ll have a decent shot of getting in at any of the UCs.

Dilapidated: do they consider ur alternate major if u r not addmitted on ur first major?

^ Yes, if you are not admitted to your first choice major, all of the UCs (save Berkeley and UCLA) consider you for admission for your alternate major. Berkeley doesn’t offer the option of selecting an alternate major because applicants are admitted to their college of choice first then apply for their major after they’re admitted. UCLA is a bit different; you’re allowed to select an alternate major for UCLA, but UCLA doesn’t guarantee you’ll be considered for your alternate major unless you’re in TAP.

Ohh that’s cool. I have a low gpa. But maybe my alternate major can help. Mine is anthropology and my initial major was communications.

@transfer914: I have the same GPA as you except we have different majors. I only remember you applying to UCSD and UCI…but I dont remember the rest.
I know your major isn’t impacted at either school and I honestly think you have a good shot at both.

Even last year UCSD had soooo many tag applicants that we still saw people with 3.3+ non tag non impacted major getting in.

And if this helps, both my counselors said I’m 90% in. They’re really good counselors and most of their chancing is accurate (this is the 100th time I’ve said this sorry guys. I want to relax you so you don’t stress over admissions too much).

HOWEVER, You failed a math class? Are you retaking it in WINTER or spring? If winter, appeal if you don’t get in

applying to UCSD/UCLA/UCB/UCD

major: electrical engineering
GPA: 3.70 even
major GPA: 3.87
i finished all my calc series, linear algebra, differential, and physics series by fall '2011, and now i’m just taking extra classes like o-chem and bio and c++.
EC: licensed pharmacy technician, volunteer at hospital, intern at small bio company

do you think the 3.7 flat is competitive enough for sd/la (applying to berkeley is just checking off the list :P)

Do the UCs see winter grades?

And could I get into cal poly SLO with a 3.16?

That’s what I want to know as well.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

No UC does not see winter grades. However, if you want to update them, you can. Winter grades are not mandatory.

^ I thought that they were mandatory if your Winter grades were released in time for the update.

@UCLAProspect all grades are mandatory for the app and update. Every semester, every school you attended, every course even if it is not UC applicable, they want to know all of it.

@dilapidatedmind, even with TAP the alternate is still not a guarantee.

When can we still update courses planned? Jan 31st is the end? I know UCSB keeps it open till March…

@MeStudy
TAP guarentees that UCLA admissions will evaluate you for your alternate major (if it’s not impacted) in the event that you are rejected from your first choice major, which is what I said. If you did not complete TAP and you listed an alternate major UCLA does not guarentee they will evaluate you “again” for your alternate. They may reject you from your first choice major and move on to the next application. I think you may have been confused in that you thought I was saying TAP was some sort of guarentee for admission into you alternate. That isn’t the case.

@dilapid - Word, I just reread it and I definitely read it wrong the first time. You good homey

Hey guys I recently applied to UCLA Chemistry as a transfer student.

My IGETC will be complete prior to transfer.

I currently have a 3.5 GPA.

My core classes I have taken and the grades I received are as follows:

General Chemistry 1 and 2 – A
Organic Chemistry 1-- B
Calculus 1 – A
Calculus 2 – B
Physics (mechanics with Calculus) – B

Courses that I am taking now :
Organic Chemistry 2
Multivariate Calculus
Physics (electrical with calculus)

Thanks for chancing me

UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSB

GPA: 4.0

Major: English at all but UCSD (Political Science there)

IGETC will be completed at the end of Spring 12 semester

Did not take Lit 265 for Berkeley English (only prereq missing), should I be concerned about this?

@lee, in for all.
