2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

does ucsd accept IGETC for history majors?

^ yes, the only time IGETC isn’t recommend or won’t fully fulfill your GE’s is if you are planning on going into Revelle or Roosevelt Colleges and/or Jacobs school of Engineering. Otherwise IGETC will take care of your ge’s and you can focus on just your major and upper divs.

@Honeyflower I only really care about CSUN. That’s a pretty close and they have some reputation for a CSU for education/teaching and stuff. Downside, the campus is packed according to my cousin.

I’m slightly panicking now because no other school besides CSULB has contacted me. The UCs haven’t even sent an email and my fallback CSUN has been too quiet.

I’m a community college transfer student in California majoring in English/Literary Journalism (hopefully)

I have a transferable GPA of 3.24 ending Fall 2011, but at the time I applied in November I only had a transferable GPA of 3.08

I’ll have finished 92 quarter units by the time I transfer

i fulfilled IGETC and all prereqs.

I’m sooo nervous because I seriously want to go here.

I also applied to UC Santa Cruz

You didn’t state where you applied… besides SC.

@Sber Im lost lol

Schools Applied: LA/B/SDTAG/SC/SB/I/D
GPA: 3.76
Major: Poli Sci, Phil:UCLA
EC: Pretty Good (mock trial coach/volunteer)
PersStatement: 8/10
42 Units CCC, 20 AP units (end of fall '11 semester)
IGETC: 2 course till completion which I’m taking this Spring.

Pre-Req: UCLA completed others arent offered at any CC in all of central cal
Poli Sci B: done

Issue, in the breadth req for UCB I was not able to complete it because I use one of my AP English scores to complete the intro English class. Do I still have a chance or am I pretty much at a loss?

Thanks!

EDIT: Honesty please!

Iwillfly: yeah I get you. It’s getting pretty intense just a few more weeks until results launch out. Good luck.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

yes you need at least one US History and the American Institutions (poli sci 101 intro to government) class to graduate from a CSU. Many CSU’s will let you in without those two because it’s sure money for them and in their interest to do so. Better to get those done and out of the way in community college. I really liked and aced my US History and intro to government classes but I had awesome ex Berkeley professors that enjoyed working and teaching on the community college level. I decided to eventually take Comparative Government with an ex Berkeley professor but he was tough yet fair (no curve like the CSU’s and UC’s) so earned a B. Great class though.

SORRY!!!

I’m a community college transfer student in California majoring in English/Literary Journalism (hopefully) applying to UC Irvine!

I have a transferable GPA of 3.24 ending Fall 2011, but at the time I applied in November I only had a transferable GPA of 3.08

I’ll have finished 92 quarter units by the time I transfer

@Sbergh Well, GPA-wise, if you did the TAU after you received your Fall grades, then that 3.24 is the one that will count.

I rarely posted but I am getting over nervous right now! I have several doubts! Please chance me and would be greatly appreciated!

Major: Economics (or Business Econ in UCLA)
Schools apply: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB
Current GPA: 3.81 (B in 2 classes: English Composition and Elementary Statistics, which is not qualified for the Stat class for UCB, would this B lower my chance to UCB? )
Major GPA: 4.0 (done Calc 1 and Macro, no prob getting an A in Micro in this winter. Does it lower my chance if I just had 2 pre regs done by fall? Winter grades improve any?)
Essay: I would say it is simple but emotional. I would give it 8/10. Praised by my English Professor.
IGETC: done by Spring
ECs: (not many)

 • Worked full time as an office assistant in an supermarket in my 1st year in college. well connected with economics in my ps.
 • Summer job in Hong Kong an an office boy also. connected with economics in my ps.
 • Treasurer in a big club in my college, did community service with that.
 • played 2nd in a chinese soccer league.

@iwillfly

Think a 3.24 will get me into UCI?

depend on ur major sbergh

non-impacted major. First choice english, second choice literary journalism for UCI. For UCSC first choice literature (Creative writing), second choice literature.

sbergh we applied as the same majors. My overall gpa inlcluding csula with non-transferable grades is 3.25 and my overall gpa without the non transferable calstatela grades is 3.30. I think we have a good chance at both schools. Did you apply elsewhere? I applied to Davis and SB too. Also,i’m curious are you a minority and do you show an upward trend in grades?

Major: Economics
From: CCC
Schools applied: All except Merced lol. Paranoid because i didn’t apply to enough schools as a freshman and therefore am stuck at ccc. But I am really interested in UCB, UCLA, and UCSD. I’ll settle for UC Davis too because I live in the bay area.
Current GPA: 4.0 (Macroeconomics is IP, done with the rest of prereqs)
I’m really worried because i am trying to transfer in one year. I applied having only completed 24 units at CC , but I also have about 18 AP units and will meet the 60 by the end of the semester. Do the AP units show that I am a strong student or will my lack of ccc units make them think I have too short of a track record?
Essay: 7-8/10 I mean I don’t think it will help too much but it won’t hurt.
IGETC: Done by Spring
ECs: Not much honestly. 200 hours non-major related comm service (100 of which I did senior year in hs), business club at ccc, also did 4 years of marching band in hs but I don’t think it will help much.
Other: High family income and not underrepresented an race

Thanks!

Bump, anyone chance me plox :(

3.76 (end of fall), poli sci: Err-where, phil: UCLA, TAG:SD

@cosmic

I’m also applying to santa clara university as a journalism major. I haven’t submitted my application yet.

My first choice is definitely UCI, only UC with journalism major…

I’m a first generation American with parents who immigrated to California from Europe, which is hardly a minority… doubt that really makes a difference on the application.
Yeah, upward trend in grades. Highest quarter gpa is a 3.7 or so this past fall. Couldn’t apply for a tag because my grades weren’t high enough and i was a few units short.

that’s crazy, my overall gpa including nontransferable classes is a 3.33 as well.

TRANSFER CHANCES?
I am currently a second year lit major at UC Santa Cruz. I have a 3.5 GPA and want to transfer for Fall 2012 to Santa Barbara as an interdisciplinary comparative lit major. I will have completed most of the lower division courses, but I’m not 100% sure because there is no equivalency guide for the UC’s. The only one I’m sure on is 5/6 completed French courses. What are my chances? Any stats on inter-campus transfers would be helpful. Thank you!
