Hi I would like some feedback on my stats if you folks have some time.

Major: Political Science

Applied for: Davis (hoping for) Riverside (i think ill get in?) SD (worth a shot haha)

GPA: 2.85

Past year and a half my GPA has been around 3.45 (Got on the Dean’s list twice) so I got the whole upward trend thing going. Reason my grades probably were not so good is I did the whole Middle College thing in highschool and didnt take classes as seriously as I should have (ended up with a bunch of C’s and B’s).

GPA for Classes towards major is roughly 3.15

All classes for my major will be completed this quarter
IGETC is completed.

Other factors:
Also have :
Internship semi related to major (since June 2011 to present )
Second job along with intership (at a bicycle shop (maybe that helps for Davis haha ) )?
SF Bay Area community college
Pretty much have been working since I was 15.
Seems as if UC Davis transfer applicants are down from last year ?
I applied last year and didnt get in since I did not have 2 years english completed
My essays were okay. I wouldnt say extremely well structured but I feel it was average.
Poli Sci is non impacted at Davis Correct?
I did go to an out of state college right out of highschool, I put those on the application I didnt do to well there (an A, C, D, W) Without those grades my transferable gpa would be around a 2.92 ish
Maybe I should start thinking about some privates/out of states?
An acquaintance of mine was wait listed last year and got into Davis with a 2.9 for history, I have heard of people getting in with lower second hand though.
My safety schools are sjsu and sfsu, which I got into last year as a transfer (just missed one or two classes for the UC requirements) so I’m assuming ill get into those again

Hate to break it to you, but you have 0% chance at UCLA/UCB. At both universities Business/Business Econ are two of the hardest majors to get into and both UCLA and UCB hold prerequisite courses in high regard. When you apply to either UCLA or UCB you absolutely need to have every pre-requisite course completed to have a favorable chance at getting in. For BizEcon at UCLA the average admitted GPA was 3.93 last year, well above your 3.81 and you bet the vast majority of those students had all the pre-requisites done. It even says on the UCLA website for applicants applying to BizEcon that “To be considered for this major, all of the preparatory courses listed here must be completed by the spring before transfer.” UCB Econ is very highly regarded as well so while they don’t release their admitted transfer stats like UCLA you better bet it’s not far off.

If you will complete a decent number of pre-requisite courses completed by the end of the Spring you have a decent chance at the other UCs. If you’re missing more than half, even despite your high GPA it doesn’t look good for UCSD/UCSB.

Thanks for your reply BruinsRule. But I would have completed all of my pre-reqs by Spring surely. Micro in Winter and Calc 2 in Spring. Actually I planned to take Micro in last fall but I couldn’t get into the class even I was in the waiting list. (My college is so crowd ) I have seen friends getting into UCB with her Calc 2 done in spring so I thought it was okay for that Calc 2. But the Micro was out of my control unfortunately.
Do they look for winter grades? I would have my grades for Micro after several days.

Major: Art History
Schools: Cal, UCLA
CCC GPA:4.0
Major Pre-Reqs: 3/3 for UCLA, 3/4 for Cal*
IGETC: Will be completed this spring
EC’s: -Volunteered at a museum for 6 months,
-Interned at an antique shop for a year
-Interned at a local library for 8 months
-Helped start an Art History club at my college (and have been a member for 1.5 years)
-Make sack lunches for homeless people (at a charitable organization) for 2 hours every week for 3 years

*My issue is that I didn’t complete one of the pre-reqs for cal, as the pre-reqs for art history were not listed on ASSIST and I didn’t find out about them until I did the Berkeley application update…But since this major is not very popular/impacted, will it hurt my chances? I have read on several threads that major pre-reqs MUST be completed for LA and Berkeley, but is this true for majors like art history?

Major: Business (Asian American Studies for Berkeley, Econ for SD, Info Mgmt for UCI)
Schools apply: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI
Current GPA: 3.57
Major GPA: 3.36
Essay: Okay essay, 7-8/10. Talked about my experiences with work, board position, etc.
IGETC: done except physical science w/ lab
ECs: Library Volunteer, JV Tennis team, hotel front desk/maintanence, Technology Chair for Circle-K, Associated Student Union

Current school: UC Santa Cruz
Major: Comparative Literature, Interdisciplinary
Applied: UCSB, Cal
Current GPA: 3.5
Major GPA: 3.75
GE: not finished (L&S requirements)

I already posted in this thread but I want to figure out what my chances are after the Fall 2011 semester grades came out. I had a 3.91 overall GPA from Fall 2010-Summer 2011, but after Fall 2011 my GPA slipped to 3.59 (I got a 3.0 last semester). I explained in the academic update that my GPA dropped because of several reasons, including my mother’s health issues. I have good ECs and essays, but I’m worried that I will be rejected from Cal and UCLA because of my GPA last semester. I’m a poli sci major… also I only completed two of the four prereqs last semester (the rest this semester) and got B’s in both classes… is there any hope left for me?

Hey everyone. Long time lurker here decided to post due to the fact I am stressing while waiting for these decisions! Anyway I would appreciate it if you guys could chance me. Good luck to everyone!

Background information: I graduated high school in 2005 (yes I am old) and went to Sac State but did not like it there. I transferred to a community college, several in fact, and just could not get it together academically. I had family/personal issues (some my fault) and I eventually had no place to live for a while. These circumstances made my GPA suffer with many Ws, Ds, and Fs. These grades are at least 3 years old but I still included these in my applications and was honest about everything. I enlisted in the military in 2007 but only served 2 years (discharged for medical reasons) and here I am awaiting decisions.

GPA: 3.15 (this is my gpa at a new community college), not that high I know :/

Schools Applied: Every UC except for Berkeley. I want to go to Davis but anywhere is ok

Major: Biology

Career: Pharmacy

Experience: Volunteer work at nursing home, volunteered for AIDS walk 2011, Military Service, work full time

IGETC: Will be complete by spring

Prereqs: Here is where it gets tricky. For UC Davis I will have every prereq done EXCEPT for Organic Chemistry. For other UCs im not sure if they will take my physics because I completed the non calculus based series. I have all Gen Chem/Bio/Math completed.

@Calibabe: I’ll throw you a chance as we are the same major…

As long as you complete the all the Pre-Reqs available before this Summer you should be okay in regards to that. Then the only thing that would give you an issue at all would be your GPA. While the average admit from last year is a 3.79… Cal I’m absolutely unsure of because they dont give us a Profile of Admitted Students like UCLA does…
