2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

Thank you. Ur so nice(: and I hope. Hopefully they acknowledge my hard work. It’s getting scary. Almost time to see results.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

@Solidsnail- Your GPA is pretty low, but I’d say UCR is still possible. I’m not entirely sure about UCSC though, they are a bit more selective than UCR so it might be a reach, especially with that major. I will say though that it is awesome that you have so many pre-reqs done! That will definitely help you out. Not to be nosy or anything, but you didn’t happen to get an D’s and lower in your major prep courses, did you? I know that UCSC only allows one D in a major prep course for biological science majors, and beyond that, they disqualify you from further biological science majors there… :/

Chance Me Please
Applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI
Current gpa: 3.43
Major: English
Finished most of Major Pre Reqs.
I Have Honors Transfer Status or TAP Certified
WILL FINISH IGETC by end of spring.
With 63 units

my biggest concern is my lack of units. i see one poster has over 115. unreal.

ill have 61 units by end of spring. i have 15+ units from AP classes. UC GPA - 3.9+. major - east asian studies/political science area. schools applied - ucd, ucsb

i still have 1 more IGETC requirement - one more english.

counselor said i had a 50% chance of acceptance at UC. referred to me as a borderline candidate. seriously? ugh. im really pushing hard this semester. not a single break since february. i have exams practically every week.

I’ll try to make this simple as I can without getting into every specific detail and story.

I messed up a few times throughout my junior college experience. During my second semester I took too many units (18) while taking architecture studio courses and couldn’t manage the 19+ hours of class and coursework I was putting in daily. I dropped 3 classes and later made them up. I thought that mistake was going to be last and only time something would negatively affect my transfer possibilites, but things didn’t turn out the way I thought they would. About a year later, I received an F in a visual communications class but later made it up. Then that summer, I had to drop another class and was not allowed to take an incomplete.
I feel almost certain I’ve blown my chances at getting into my choice schools- UCLA, SLO, UCB, and now I’m not even sure most Cal States/privates will accept me. Are my chances as bleak as I think they are and what can a person in my current circumstance even do at this point to make my original goal salvageable?

For more perspective-
Current GPA 3.74
73 Units
completed all coursework for UC, CSU
Major- Architectural History and Studies
Great Recs. and Vol. work

@ BRIANSC42

How many pre-reqs are you missing exactly? LA and Berkeley are big on those.

Schools Applied: UCSC/UCSD/UCD/UCI. Main priority right now is UCSC and UCI
GPA: 3.29
Major: Computer Game Science
EC: Somewhat okay, experience creating addons and working with other developer in optimizing other users game play.
PS: 8/10
Unit: 74 after spring12
IGETC: Will be finished.
Tag: Got in to ucsc, but was denied to baskin due to not enough math class to evaluate =/ even though it said by spring 2012.
Pre-req: For UCSC all 7 base course + physics will be done. UCI will be missing software engineer and linear algebra i believe. Which should be okay since the pre-req for cgs is just 1 year and calculus and 2 programming classes which i’ve already covered.

So yah for now uci and ucsc would probably be my priority picks while ucd and ucsd are just there incase i get lucky lol.

@jnguyen471

100% in at UCSC, 80% at UCD, and IDK about UCI becuase of pre-reqs

I haven’t done one of these all year so what the heck why not post right before decisions are supposed to come out and see how accurately those on this board can prognosticate the admissions decisions?

Campus Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD (TAG), UCI, UCSB
Major: Molcular Biology (UCSD, UCI, UCSB); Molecular, Cell, Developmental Biology (UCLA), Integrative Biology (Berkeley)
GPA: 3.67
School: Not sure why this is relevant but GCC, LAVC, LAMC, and LA Pierce
IGETC: Completed Fall '11
Pre-Reqs: Mostly completed, missing Multi. Var. Calc for UCSD,
Pre-Reqs GPA: Note sure, I’ve gotten As in all Bio/Chem classes and then about 50:50 A/Bs in Physics and Calc
TAP: No
Essays: Great on the first prompt about my major, I’d say succinct but effective on second essay, so maybe 8/10 together
ECs: TA like position on a study abroad Marine Biology program, Supplemental Instruction leader for Biology, Physics (paid tutoring position from my CC), Deans list recognition multiple times, Volunteered in a hospital PT ward
93 semester units by end of this Spring

School > UCB
GPA> 3.94 67 units by the end of this semester.
IGETC > complete by end of this semester
Major > Econ
Pre reqs> complete 4.0
Participated in TAP and experience Berkeley
PS > solid I had a lot of help from both the Berkley TAP rep and the Experience Berkeley guys
ECs > AGS, volunteer at local alternative schools, work full time and I have 2 children so not much time for any other ECs.
Berkeley is the only school I applied to because I can’t move out of the bay area due to family situation. St. Mary’s is my back up school but I really want to go to UCB

@dilapidatedmind

90% at UCI and UCSB, 80% at UCSD (for 1st choice major), 65% at UCLA and UCB

@ JavyUCB

90% at UCB

Hey there. =) Transferring from Berkeley City College.
Going to: Cal, Davis, Riverside, SD.
GPA:3.7959
Major - English.
Pre-reqs: All but one completed by Spring.
IGETC: Completed by spring.
EC’s:

 • Tutoring 2nd Graders.
 • Literature Club.
 • Church stuff.

Personal Statement: I wrote it the day of so i’ll give myself a conservative 7/10.
Other:
I had to do academic renewal for one class I took while in high school in 2008.
I didn’t remember to mention why I had to do so on the application.
Is it terribly detrimental that I didn’t explain or justify it?
Would they correctly assume that because I took it in high school, I was still just getting a hold of my bearings?

-Thanks!

Are you missing a pre-req for every school? Is it offered at your school?

In at UCI, UCSD, not sure about UCLA but maybe chance at Berkeley, at least on appeal…good luck, finish strong, although it doesn’t matter. Hows your latest GPA trend? How’s your ec’s & personal statement? we need more info pal.

Hey there, my bad, I’m taking the final prereq for English right now, Spring 12.

Ok, well if you do complete all your pre-reqs, then I’d say your 95% at Davis, 90% at UCSD, 80% at UCLA, and 75% at UCB.

someone wanna chance me??

Schools applied to: UCSD, UCSC (approved TAG), UCI, UCD, UCR (Accepted Already:]) UCM
Major: History
GPA: 3.3
IGETC: done by spring.
Two Associate Degrees by Spring Also!
Pre-reqs: I’ve done 2 but none were required.
PS: not very good.
EC’s: volunteer Work.

So basically, of course in at UC Merced and Riverside (I could have told you that for sure). In for UCSC TAG (Good), UC Davis, I heard is super non-impacted at Davis, so in for there, especially with having two AA’s, and IGETC done.

Continuing on, UCI will be a yes in my book, once again - major. UCSD, I’m saying 75/80%. I hope you get into UCSD, but I mean they are being super jerkish and wanting to make their school more prestigious, blahhhh blahhh, so they are probably trying to be extra difficult on their holistic review. I believe you will be YAY’ing the middle of this month when decisions roll out though. If not, appeal.

Remember about UCSD though, the extra GE’s you may have to take, which is sorta beginning to be a deal-breaker for me. You and I aren’t the same but it is a popular stressor for many others too though, so make a very wise decisions.

What do you wish to do with History? It’s also good to know which school is good in history. Are you thinking Pre-Law?

Thanks kittty!!

what do you mean extra GE’s for UCSD? On assist UCSD actually has less requirements for my major than Irvine does, which I thought was weird?

And I chose history as my major bc I love history! my eventual career goal is to become a diagnostic medical sonographer, and most programs require a bachelors in any area (plus a few other pre-req courses which I’ve taken most of them. like medical terminology, anatomy and physics. I still need like 2 though + 70 hours volunteering at a hospital)

The only thing is bc I’ve taken courses like human anatomy and medical terminology I hope they don’t think i’m trying to get in as a history major and then switch to biology or something!

Also, UCSD has its own diagnostic medical sonography program, and I think it’s the only UC with one. So that’s why its my top choice bc I could finish my pre-reqs for the program while I’m getting my BA then immediately enroll in it after I graduate:)

I hope we both get in!! if we do we’ll party like crazy ahah
