Campus Applying to: UCLA, Cal
Major: Geography
GPA: 3.69 overall, but a 4.0 in my last 55 units
School: Orange Coast College
IGETC: Done
Pre-Reqs GPA: 4.0
TAP: Yes @ UCLA
Essays: Pretty good, I think.
ECs: I don’t have too much here because I’ve been working about 15-20 hours a week while I’ve been in school. I do have a few volunteer hours with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Second Harvest Food Bank, and I’m in the Honors Program.

I’m pretty stressed out about this whole thing, especially since I just had to drop my badminton class with a W because of a knee injury. I’m hoping they don’t decide against me because of that. My GPA is kind of low-ish because there were a few B’s and a couple C’s from a long time ago that I couldn’t get rid of, so I’m hoping they will take grade trends into consideration. So what do you guys think?

Transferring from Community College (El Camino)
GPA: 3.58
Major: Psychology
School: UCIrvine
IGetC: Completed
Honors Transfer Program at school: Yes

Should I be nervous or do I have a good chance of getting in? I had 3.78 GPA and was in TAG so I slacked off summer/fall and dropped to 3.58 GPA. My TAG got voided (I didn’t know it gets voided if you change major) so I dunno how I should be feeling right now ><

Freako, you should check out the UCI admission thread. I believe I saw a couple of psych majors get accepted without tag. Your stats look golden. I’d say you shouldn’t worry.

yea its not looking too good if you havent already gotten something back from them. well as far as uci they have already started to send out all theyre decisions. good luck. :p

Just got a call from UCSB to discuss my application. Ive never heard of a school actually calling someone. The convo was very positive and the last thing she said to me was “Decisions start going out March 19th and it shouldnt take that long for you to receive your ac…decision”. what do u guys think?

Chance me Please!!!

CHANCE ME PLEASE
will do the same for you as well :p

I have applied as a junior transfer physics major from an OOS CC. (But I did graduate high school in CA so if admitted I get in-state tuition)

In order of preference
UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB

Community College GPA: 4.0
(72 semester units: Calc 1-3, Diff-EQ, Linear Algebra, Java, Gen Chem 1&2, O Chem 1, Biology 1, Philosophy, English 1&2, Italian 1, Calc-based Physics 1&2, Anthropology, Microeconomics)

L&S Requirements (Berkeley): Finished except I will only have 1 semester instead of 2 semesters of a foreign language. I made a note that I found out about the requirement too late in order to complete it by the time I transfer but I did take 2 years of Spanish in hs.

PreReqs: All finished except for 1 that is not offered at my cc

EC’s & Accomplishments:
-Math/Physics tutor for 1 semester
-ESL instructor at local library for adult learners on Saturdays (volunteer, 6 months)
-100th percentile on American Chemical Society’s nationally standardized exam in general chemistry
-Offered and accepted internship for 10 weeks this summer with The Department of Energy at Fermilab in Chicago (particle physics research laboratory) that is associated with The University of Chicago
-Phi Theta Kappa

I’m just so worried they won’t take me because I’m applying from OOS and I’m really depending on Berkeley

@nerissa
Your GPA is right at the avg of what they accept for transfers and you seem to have some good EC’s. Especially the research with the UCB professor. It seems like you would get in.

Chance please - I literally have no idea where I stand, and it’s keeping me up:
Out of state, but coming from University of Michigan (will this increase or decrease chances - I know ccc’s get priority, but they should like a 4 year strong University out of state, no?)
Not amazing gpa, but steady progression (2.8 first semester, 3.4 second, and 3.85 last semester, upward trend each time), unparalleled work exp / extracurriculars, strong essay, and most if not all of the available prereqs completed – within reason (things translate differently from Michigan than they may otherwise).

Coming from OOS, respectable school or not, decreases your chances. I’m guessing your cumulative GPA is around a 3.35(?) which isn’t all that competitive, even for a non-impacted major. Conservatively, I would say your chances are quite slim.
