2012 UC Housing Thread

Thought I would make this to help each other for ideas on where we will be living. Also because nothing much to talk about right now, so we might as well pass time by, by talking about our FUTURE plans.

Don't say "we don't know if were accepted or not yet", keep positive outlook, and PLUS look, if you have the decent GPA for your major and pre-reqs completed I believe we all will be fine.

Anyways, housing I am focusing on for myself is UCSD/UCI/UCD/UCLA

how about you guys?

We don’t know if were accepted or not yet. : )

Of the ones you listed, I’ve only been to the ucsd transfer housing. It’s quite nice as it is practically brand new. If you are lucky and get a west facing room a few floors up you get a great view of the beach. It’ll probably be ~11k for the school year, but that includes all your utilities, Internet, housekeeping, meal plan, etc. If I get into sd I’m def going to live there. I’d perfer to live on campus as I’m lazy and would enjoy rolling outta bed 5 mins before class.

I also applied to irvine but I have done 0 research in the housing there. I have a friend who goes there and lives in some pretty nice apartments nearby. His rent doesn’t seem too bad with 3 other roommates in a 2 bdrm.

from what i get, UCSD housing is almost +1/3 of the cost of UC Irvine. That in itself is being a major factor in my decision. I rather have cheap but beautiful @ irvine and have money for clothes and eating rather than having to live lavish in la jolla.

Irvine is actually an expensive place to live. And has been rated the #1 safest city in the nation for having 250,000 people.

Say hello to $450 home owners association fee per month if you plan to live in a house. And yes, everywhere you live in Irvine requires some sort of Home Owner Association Fee – unless you live on campus.

i will respond to that after my dinner lawl

Applied to UCLA/B/SD(tag)/I/SC/SB/D… [yes i got scared I wouldn’t get in anywhere so i applied everywhere]

Most likely either SD/LA (again hopeful)
Haven’t done much research in regards to living and such…

Not trying to scare you or anything Kitty but as a person who live in Irvine, and 5 minutes from UCI, housing cost can be tough. I highly recommend finding room mates!!

hey lawl,

okay so i was on the UCI housing site rooms were like 700 but at UCSD rooms were like 1300!?

let me get links, bear with me.

edit

UCI

I think he was talking about renting off campus. But I mean either way la jolla and irvine are both expensive off campus.

Really haven’t done much research into housing. I’d love it if I could live up in Berkeley cause I love the weather up there. Anyone know much about housing at CAL?

@iMunster

Off the top of my head, I think the Wada Apartments at Berkeley are guaranteed for transfers for 1 year. Other arrangements can be made as well. You should double check that though.

If I go to santa cruz I was going to stay in transfer housing for one semester while I look for a job, then live off campus once I find one. Do you guys think it will be expensive to rent a room in sc? In the town i’m living in now people rent out rooms for like 450 a month max.

Ucsd/ucd/uci/ucsd

Hi there, I used to lurk this forum before I transferred too, so I figured that I need to contribute to help some ppl.

If youre looking for cheap housing at UCI, I would suggest looking at Puerta del Sol housing. I live there right now and its only 500 bucks a month for double occupancy. Its an apartment with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. This will probably be one of the cheapest options you will find. Everything is included except electricity, which you will split on 4 anyways. Close to starbucks, albertsons and America Heart Association incase you would get a heart attack(jk). Takes me roughly 15-20min to walk to class. Oh, did I mention that parking is included(which is like 70 bucks anywhere else)?

^^ does every UC have deals like that?

No idea. I guess you just have to look around. Technically, its considered off-campus even though its closer to campus than some of their own housing facilities. I found out about this place through my friend. So if you have any friends at any of the UC campuses you are interested in, Id suggest giving them a call for some advice or something

uchappytain are you going to UCSC?

Yeah I tagged to ucsc so if I don’t get in anywhere else I’ll be going there

each school is different with different housing options and amenities. Just look up the housing pages for the UC you are most interested in.

There is a WIDE range of differences.

I tried looking up rooms for rent in Santa Cruz on craigslist but I couldn’t find anything. rooms for rent in my hometown go for 450 a month max. do you guys think the Santa Cruz area will be more expensive cuz it’s by the beach? I just want to rent a room in someone’s house you know, I see ads for rooms at my cc all the time
