2012 UC-to-UC Transfer Thread

How is everyone doing during this Finals week?!? :)

Current school: UCSB
Applying to: UCLA, UCSD, Cal
Major: Computer Engineering
GPA: 3.7~
GPA with projected fall grades: ~3.7
Major GPA: ?
ECs/work: virtually none
No W’s, one P/NP

Is there any way I can get into either of these schools?
Also, there will likely be 3 c’s on my transcript as well.

Current school: UCLA
Applying to: UCSD
Major: Sociology/Anthropology
GPA: 3.7
Major Prereqs: Done since I’m a CC transfer
ECs/work: Couple jobs here and there, but nothing crazy
One W first quarter

my GPA’s gonna be a lot lower after Winter Quarter (health issues), but hopefully I can bring it up with Spring grades.

You are going from UCLA to UCSD? whats the reason?

@Strive - Took one final already, I think I’m going to end up with an A- in that class, but I don’t think it’ll hurt my GPA by much, just sad I might not have my 4.0 anymore ;(

@daaangit - why are you transferring out of UCLA? I want to go to UCLA for anthro.

@Cheung - I am not too sure about how the C’s will look but I know they have a minimum GPA you have to keep prior to being admitted I forgot the number though. Maybe it was a 2.5 or 3? Not sure, but I’d say you have a chance at SD but Cal and LA may be harder for your major

@mmsiphone It wasn’t really for me, I never “clicked” with the school but ended up going and hating it. I actually SIR’d to UCSD before switching for UCLA on last June, should’ve stuck with my decision.

@CheddarGoldfish Are you doing anthropology because you’re actually interested and passionate about it? If it’s not, I recommend thinking hard about it. It’s one of the main reasons why I’m set on peacing out if I’m able to get into UCSD.

I like anthropology a lot, but I know it’s really hard to find jobs in that major. I’m thinking of doing a double major in something else or doing pre-med, but I actually really do enjoy anthropology as a class I find it interesting. I’m more of a social sciences person though. Are you transferring to UCSD as an anthropology major again? Or are you switching to another major?

current school: ucsd
applyied to: ucsc
gpa:3.0
major: anth
pre reqs: done except one anth class
no W one P
some ec

what do you think my chances are?

@alice - Considering you are applying as an anthropology major, and UCSC which isn’t too hard to get in I say you have a fair chance except your gpa is kind of low but I’m not really sure about UCSC as I’m not applying there. The average for anthro majors is around 3.2-3.4 I’d say? I saw the stats for ucla and the gpa requirement was pretty low, so you might have a shot at UCSC.

@alice- why do you want to leave UCSD? I got in this saturday and may go there.

@Strive - Congrats!

@Cheddar- Thanks! hope finals are going well for you! and one A- won’t hurt you at this point :)

What did everyone do for their Math and English requirements? I’m now realizing that I might be in a predicament. I took one math class at UCSB, so thats fine. But I thought that I could use AP exam scores for both english comp classes (I got a 4 and a 5 on the English exams), but now I’ve read that AP scores can only count for one course, even if you pass both? However, at UCSB, passing both AP exams counts for exemption from both english comp classes, so I couldn’t have taken an english comp class here even if I wanted to. I emailed UCLA admissions to see whats up, but I’ll be crushed if that gets me rejected.

^UC reciprocity covers english, right? English is a GE, I would think?

Well, for the CC kids, there are a few additional requirements, 1 UC-level math and 2 UC-level english comp classes. They are called the UC-eligibility requirements. I’m not even 100% sure if they apply to us. I do have UC reciprocity done though

it wasnt what i wanted in a school. its isolated from the rest of the city. the people here, all they do is study. they say uc socially dead…its true. now i heard once your 21 it gets better. theres PB. living off campus helps too. and if you have a car. theres no school spirit. which leads to a very dismal campus. i think part of the problem is no ones first choice was sd. they all wanted la or Berkeley.
i really like ucsc (i went to summer school there) and honestly i cant imagine staying here another 2 yrs.

You went to summer school at UCSC? I didn’t know you could do that.

I would love to take classes there for a quarter. Is there some kind of UC to UC program?

nope you just apply. everyone gets in though. it more of a formality.

You can do summer school at any UC campus

has anyone got decisions yet from ucsc?
