♠ 2012 UCSB Transfer Decisions Thread ♠

@Lawlking- more than likely you will meet up near the library, but if you just walk around during the time open house starts you will more than likely find a group you can join and walk with, thats what i did last yr.

@Fionuhh- you would take Econ10A since i believe its a fall only class, and i think you can enroll in the other econ classes, you just cant declare the major, you could still finish up the math if you haven’t, if i cant get the classes i want im just gonna finish the whole math series. You should take summer school and get the lil writing for econ out of the way and any other stuff u need.

@jiggaloww I’ll be finish with the required math part by summer. I was looking at the Econ classes and all need the 10A Pre Req I think??? I’m not quite sure. I heard we also need to take a writing class for UC’s. But I don’t want to take just two classes??

@fionuhh

http://my.sa.ucsb.edu/Catalog/Current/Documents/2011_Majors/LS/Econ/Econ-BA-2011.pdf

in order for you to graduate, you would need to have fulfill all of these requirements…if that is in fact your correct major, as there are minor variations to the other economics majors

@samurai yes I did look at that (mine is the Econ and accounting one) and when I went in ucsb fall 2011 schedule to look at hat could be my options almost all the classes had a Pre req required that was either Econ 10 A or a class that needed 10A. Idk I might have not looked up entirely all of them because I accidentally black listed every website on my Internet besides Facebook -_- (was trying to block FB though self control app and added that to the white list instead) lol irrelevant but anyway I have all the Pre reqs required done except for Econ 10 A. I want to take classes that count towards my major but mostly all of what I saw needed 10 A as a Pre req unless I’m reading it all wrong Lol idk

@ryan Ok yes that was my plan but my question was more like, besides Econ 10 A and the writing class I’d have to take, what other class options towards my major would I have? Like what other classes can you take for Econ + Accounting major w/o Econ 10A.

[Curriculum Search](Curriculum Search) for ex if you search up econ classes, all of them say pre req - 10A

Still pending as well.
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.87
IGETC Certified
TAG’ed

@fionuhh pretty much because you are gonna be an upper division student most of they classes you would need would be for you major…“economics” Econ10 is an lower division course, so without it you really can’t take much…just take it over the summer and you will be fine…and you won’t have to worry about prerequisites… A lot of the courses also allow you to take the upper division class concurrently, while taking the prerequisite at the same time…but you would have to get professor approval…

Decision: Not Admitted
Major: Pre-Biology
UC GPA: 3.66
Prereqs: some but not all of the prebio requirements

I applied from Rutgers University I was at community college last semester. I got denied because of that and I didn’t have all of the minimum admission requirements, I kind of did it just for fun, but I’d really like to go home. I did have everything but one course completed for my IGETC. Unfortunately I suck here because of the credit cap they put on us once you transfer. I shouldn’t be complaining Rutgers is a great school with a great microbio program. It was worth a shot applying but oh well. Kind of bummed but not really surprised. Unfortunately I’ll be ineligible for admission next application period when I have completed the pre-reqs for have too many units :’(.

Good luck to the rest of you!

@Scienceguy :frowning: what a bummer! If you don’t mind me asking which classes did you not have completed?

A lot of stuff. I knew applying that I would get denied but was hoping my ECs, massive upward GPA trend, and job experience would get me in.

I did not complete the whole gen bio series because of my damned CC(they make you jump through hoops like taking first half of gen chem first). And I did not have the 2nd half of gen chem. I’m pretty sure those were the only requirements I have not completed Calc II but since I wont be attending and I’m stuck at RU I probably wont take it because its not a requirement and its the 3rd most failed course here besides the 2 orgos.

You’ll get in if you have what I did not complete.

oh god. ucsb was one of the three schools i applied (rejected from SLO and waiting on davis) and i finally got admitted today. so relieved…looks like a trip down to iv this weekend! :D

Congrats asting!

I’m sorry again Scienceguy, really sucks!
My CC also requires Gen Chem I for the general bio series. Luckily I finished those last year and I’m in my last chem, physics and calc II now.

science guy-
sorry to hear that you did not get in. i know what you mean about trying to get the courses you need at a CC. it was nearly impossible to complete my IGETC and prereqs at my CC as well—and i am very organized. really stressful dealing with their messed up administration. grateful for public school, but my CC really needs some improvements. did you consider just sending a low key appeal? might be stressful, but you deserve to get admitted. not sure what i would do. i do know that i might just write up a very positive appeal stating all the reasons i really want to attend, leaving out the negative stuff, and see what might happen. but sometimes the stress is not worth it.

ok my financial aid for ucsb is up online. they are evaluating me as OOS but i will be a resident when i attend. i am wondering how much the grants they are offering me will change.

can someone that is a resident with an EFC of $0 either PM me or post here the rundown of their aid?

also, what about cal grants? my application is still processing… sorry for the numerous posts.

Just to be sure, I check to see that I got in though the UCSB site here:

Right?

I’ll post a pic of mine later. But for UCSB estimate why does it have me as off campus when I stated I would be on campus on my FAFSA application?

^^ Blah, UCSB is giving me less than Riverside.
