congrats on makin’ the eng. dept!

Congrats Storm. Seems like they are going down the list of gpa’s…waah! I need to know already!

@stormageddon

What major Pre reqs have you not completed yet? Congrats btw I’m in electrical also. What school were you accepted into

Does UCSD consider WHICH UC OR COLLEGE you were previously at or just the GPA?

^^ supposedly California community college students get priority. But idk how they determine who gets in and who doesn’t. Also the fact with the state budget the way it is I can see them taking more out of state students

Can I be invited to the San Diego transfer group? =p. hahaha.

Wow I have a 3.34. I’m losing all hope.

^Well you SIR’d to SB and said multiple times you probably wont go to UCSD even if you got in anyway. So dont stress over it because whether or not you get in really doesn’t affect anything anyway :P

heh i felt the same way about ucla; i was even going to write an appeals letter–but getting over-emotional about a place that wasn’t my first choice was really not worth the trouble–just rather enjoy my summer :E

To all those planning on transferring to UCSD this Fall, I figured it was time we had a facebook group of our own:

UCSD Transfer Students Fall 2012

Come join!

(Seriously, I’m currently the only member. Please join. Lol.)

I change my mind a lot. I say one thing one day and change it the next…lol that’s why. It would feel good getting an acceptance letter though!

@Acoustickitty123 Getting accepted changes everything. I had SIR’d to UCI and was totally pumped to be going there, told everyone that I wouldn’t go to UCSD anymore even if I got accepted. The second I got my acceptance I was like “holy crap, I’m going to UCSD” and that was that. Submitted my SIR a few hours later…

AW
See. Life changes. My mind changes. Hopefully that doesnt happen to me. Already signed housing contract at UCSB :X
Congrats on your admittance to UCSD!!! UCI is great but not as good as UCSD.

Yeah getting accepted definitey changes your mind. I got accepted to UCSB and figured it was the best I could get into. I claimed that I hated UCI and UCSD because I thought there was no chance in hell I could get into either. Got accepted into Irvine a month later and SIRed there (lol). After getting waitlisted at SD I wrote a crappy 3min “essay” to reserve my spot on the waitlist with no intention (at the time) to actually SIR if I got in.

Now that I’m accepted to SD I’m going back and forth between Irvine and SD and really would be more than happy to go to either (coincidentally both are stereotyped as being socially dead but I don’t care lol). Both offer great academic opportunities. Such big trade offs between the two, though, and I hate that I have to make a decision by 11:59pm tomorrow. Three days to decide isn’t enough for me.

And @acoustickitty I got into SD with lower stats than you so I’d definitely say there’s hope for you too. Good luck!

I just hope that for those of us who didn’t get the option to SIR anywhere, can get in somewhere xD Lol my parents wouldn’t let me SIR and then switch unless I paid the 100 myself haha and I of course have no money xD hope everyone ends up at least where is best for them :P

@Randroid: so happy for you! It’s definitely a hard decision to make and it will take you longer than 48 hours to decide. But I’m sure whatever you decide will be the best for you. all UCs are great.

At first I was butthurt I got waitlisted…I said UCSD was “for ugly people” LOL but the campus is absolutely gorgeous and the people are so friendly. Campus is not socially dead whatsoever.

Good luck! You have lower than a 3.3?!

@clamfest UCSD is my only option as well!!! It is like my hundreth year at a CC and I need this trasnfer to happen!!! I’m really banking on them giving the initial waitlist admits their 3 days to SIR and then assess who SIR then finally and hopefully get an answer (offer) out to us!!!

@UCkat EXACTLY! lol. Yeah I really hope they do that. I mean only a couple people found out, and no rejections yet…plus they said from june 1st through july 1st they were gonna send the decisions so we still got awhile, technically…ugh yeah I’m gonna go nuts if I get left behind by my sister haha. She got accepted in March! Jeez haha

I e-mailed the financial aid dept the day I got accepted due to getting a message that UCSD had no record of my 2012-2013 FAFSA. After verifying that I had indeed included their school code on my FAFSA, they had no idea why I was getting that error. Well, today I checked my financial aid page on TritonLink and it turns out they need several weeks to determine my aid eligibility :l

My family doesn’t make a lot of money so I have to put myself through college, and I was going to base my decision heavily on how much aid I got from each school. On one hand, UCSD has $200 million more endowment than UCI so they could potentially offer more aid, but you never know how the money is distributed …

I understand that it’s the in the nature of the waitlist that things will not be as smooth sailing for us; after all, we weren’t originally offered admission and are added just to fill the rest of the spots. It would just be nice if the decision window wasn’t so small, or if I knew exactly what the school was offering so that I could make a choice based on an equal comparison. I don’t mean to sound entitled in any way – I’m truly stoked and grateful that I got offered admission! – but SIRing without having an idea of financial aid is a risky shot in the dark.

The thing is, the more I read about UCSD, the more I fall in love with it. Having to turn down such an amazing opportunity, one that I never thought I’d have, will definitely hurt for a while – especially under these circumstances ):

@acoustickitty Whoops I read your GPA as 3.43 instead. I have a 3.30 so technically you still have a slightly higher GPA than me. And thanks! I feel good about getting in partly because neither of my parents attended college so it means a lot to me!

@Integraballer From what classes they had at my CC I am missing chemistry and modern physics. I talked to an admissions councilor and she said that it didn’t really matter that I didn’t have all of it complete; for un-impacted majors they don’t even look at completed major prep as a factor in admissions.
