** 2012 UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread **

I would not assume that is the last batch. I read UCSD under admitted transfer students in the beginning, leading a large wait list. Some said it was giving their admissions officers an extension of time. I understand the way they approached things this year is therefore different than in prior years. Now, they have a lot of people who have wrapped their heads around going to a different school and may not take their offer. And, with the budget crisis, they can’t afford to have empty seats and dorm rooms. So, although they may not do more batches, they may still offer admissions as others decline their offer to make sure they fill the spots they should have filled in the first place. I would not give up hope until you hear you have not been offered a spot at UCSD.

Those who are on the wait list but know you will not go to UCSD–its not too late. Log in and cancel your spot on the wait list. Have a heart.

I’m now going to stop lurking on this site as my work for D is done. Thanks to everyone who posted. I learned a lot from reading this thread.

so that was the last batch? why do you guys think that? I thought that was only the 2nd one

i just got in this afternoon (no email) to marshall (econ major) but maybe they are still sending them out? they prob under admitted again bc last year i had family who appealed and got in (transfer student) and they let them in after all the waitlist people i assume.

I doubt today was the last batch. Since July 1st is the last day UCSD can let people on the wait-list know, I would say there’s still about 2 batches left

I forgot to say congrats itspat & acoustickitty!! you guys really deserve it, i’m so happy for you :)

and acoustickitty go to UCSD!! I remember talking about UCSD way back in like december and you were so excited about going there and you were positive you were going to get in, and you did!! you should be very proud of yourself :)

@amitjptl: hey I’m in marshall too and an Intl studies-econ major! I guess I’ll be seeing you around :)

Hey guys I’ve been thinking about the housing, is anyone living somewhere other than the village? is the village really worth it? (its quite expensive…) I’m starting to doubt it. I have a friend from my cc who’s planning to find an apt or maybe homestay but I really wanted to experience the dorm life and all so I’m not sure about that :S

Village is not that expensive compared to the UC’s housing. I would consider getting a single room, but they were all out. :(

I really want to defer my admission for another year, but I may just go to UCSD afterall.

@adriecali, yeahh the village is actually cheaper than the other UCs… ALOT cheaper lol. SB’s dorming for a double was at like almost $14k lol. And I know my friend’s triple at UCLA was around 12-13k.

It is still expensive, but it’s only one year. And hey you only live once! HAHA. I wanted to at least experience dorming first, even it it’s whatevs. And then get an apartment the next year lol. -shrugs- that’s just me though!

I think it would be cheaper to rent an apartment outside, but does financial aids helps cover that though?

@UChappytrain: AW thank you <3 I’m a bit sad I can’t go to UCSD because I already signed my housing contract. Plus, I’d be taking more classes at SD than SB :,( makes me sad I won’t get to meet you! But let me know if you have a twitter

Btw, did you find out if you got in or not?? I hope you find out soon!!!

yeah the village is only ~10k and i’m paying 12,700 for a double room at UCD. and the meal plan that’s included with that doesn’t even provide food on the weekends. I’m literally going to starve. or I just might bring tupperwear to the dining halls on fridays, steal a bunch of food and eat it sparingly on the weekends ;)

the good thing though, is that the residence halls for transfers at UCD are basically student apartments with a kitchen and bathrooms and a living room. So it’s like i’m living at the SHA for way cheaper (SHA are ~14k). the residence halls are all filled up now too so i’m lucky I filled out my application so early. but that doesn’t mean i wouldn’t drop all that **** in a second to SIR to UCSD, because I so would :(

Yeah, our dorms at UCSD are the same. They’re more like suites/apartment style. And they’re basically brand new … with both Villages being only like 2-3 years old haha. + also the nice thing about UCSD’s meal plan is that it isn’t like other UC’s meal plans where you get like 10, 14, 19 or whatever meals a week. They’re more like dining dollars… and if by the end of the year, you don’t use them all up, you can either cash them in for things or well… have a huge ****ing buffet hahaha. I prefer that more opposed to UCSB’s meal plan :frowning: which don’t do roll overs !!

wow thanks guys now I’m more sure with the village! I guess the village has a lot of pros :D

@Funnyordie: I would really prefer a single too :frowning: How do you know they’re all full? so there’s like no chance of getting a single now?

@dostranvia: yea I know I’ve really wanted to experience the dorm life! its just I’ve been living in an apartment and got used to the idea of having my room to myself… hearing that there is no singles left kinda worries me I guess and the moving again in a year would be a hassle too… but I guess I’ll be signing up for the village in the end anyways lol

hey @uchappytrain: I SIRed at Davis before knowing I got in the waitlist and already deposited for the SHA too… honestly I didn’t drop UCD as fast as you would’ve though. My dad even wants me to stay at UCD.
I really hope you’ll get in off the waitlist and join us soon! :)

@uchappytrain thanks :)

i’m so excited for ucsd; well revelle college seems brutal, but i can figure out a way to manage. dorm life should be…really interesting LOLOL i just hope that I wont be the only one awake at like 3-4am in the morning though.

@adirecali, yeahh I know what you mean. I’m super hoping I’m getting a single too… I don’t think they’re out of singles yet… they haven’t even released any contracts or whatever for anybody till beginning of July! I don’t know why everyone’s saying they’re out already hahaha. But hopefullllly they aren’t. -crosses fingers-

and @itspat, haha I don’t think being in Revelle should hurt you too much! The six college systems only really affect our GEs and since we already finished them through the IGETC I don’t think it will impact us thattt much lol. :stuck_out_tongue: And I know what you mean haha. I’m a nocturnal owl myself… if I end up in a double I’m gonna feel super bad for my room mate cause I never sleep before 1-2AM anymore LOL.

@dostranvia: yeah I keep hearing its full but I’m not sure if that’s confirmed or not, I’m also crossing my fingers for a single!

btw if we don’t really live at our colleges that means our dining halls are also not the ones in our colleges? Basically the village is like one college itself then (-the GE reqs) lol

so excited!
I think we’re all nocturnal owls here :P

@adirecali ya I’m sure we’ll cross paths lol

can’t wait for the housing contract stuff. when do we pick rooms and stuff? how much longer after you’ve been accepted? I know wait list people are behind if that even applies…?

@adriecali, I’m pretty sure we go to whichever dining halls we want. SD has more options besides dining halls too though… since we have the whole dining dollars instead of meal plans you can use your dining dollars at I think almost all the school owned restaurants on campus. :stuck_out_tongue: There’s a list of them somewhere I’m just not sure where! Haha. But yay usss, go Marshall! Haha.

@ampitjptl, they let us know about room selections around early/mid July! :)) Annnd no I don’t think the fact that we were wait-listed should affect us too much. Or well actually no, I think everyone in the first batch of wait-list submitted our contracts in the same time as everyone else pretty much. It’s the second batch and beyond that might be affected the most I think… since it’s pretty much first come first serve from what I’ve been told.

@dostranvia: oh right thats nice! Marshall is known for their dining halls, cant wait to check it out! :D

@donstranvia LOL yeah sleeping before 1 or 2 am feels so…unnatural

does anyone have to take a math placement test? I think I might have to because Revelle wants 3 courses in calculus…sigh why must math always be in my life when I want it out
