** 2012 UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread **

that sucks… did anyone else apply for an impacted major?

^There are a few of us lurking around that applied to UCSD as impacted biology/engineering majors.

I applied as a Molecular Biology major.

I applied as a Biochem/Bio… what are your stats if I may ask? Did you tag?

^They’re on the very first page of this thread actually, but I don’t mind repeating lol.

Molecular Biology, Biochem/Chem (alt)
3.67 GPA
TAG
Completed all pre-reqs except Multivariable Calc.

I also applied for an impacted major. bio engineering

poly sci

jhklgljkhfkghdhgd

^I thought Poly Sci wasn’t impacted at UCSD?

http://students.ucsd.edu/academics/advising/majors-minors/impacted-majors.html</a></p>

Damn… My gpa is also 3.67 but im missing calc 2 and 3, diff eqs, phys 1,2,3 and ochem 2 :/

Wow I think you’ll get in as your second choice. Missing too many pre reqs for an impacted major

@chemnerd
For UCSD diff eqs and ochem aren’t considered pre-reqs for their Biology majors. It would definitely be in your best interest to have the Calc series (especially the first year) and the Physics series completed.

You’re doing chem w/o calc 2 and diff. eq? how is that possible.
calc 2 and 3 require lots of work to excel in.

dila, wait so what does that mean for me?

What if my alt major is molecular biology? I tagged if that matters at all… I was trying to get into biochem/chem… Does TAG really guarantee admission as long as you fulfill the requirements?

@chewbacca i already finished g. Chem im doing ochem now, it doesnt seem that i need calc 2

@UCKittychen

If you TAGed it means that you should be able to get directly into your major if you meet all of the conditions. If you didn’t it just means that the evaluation is less stringent. For impacted majors you pretty much have to have all of your pre-reqs completed and you have to be that much more competitive, with a GPA significantly above the school wide average admitted GPA. Impacted majors also get admitted directly to their department, non-impacted majors get admitted to the university.

You chose two impacted majors? Idk because
Your 3.67 would’ve got you in because Ucsd admits by campus not major

@actrain my counselor said i would just get in undeclared… But you never know :frowning: i hope im in the next batch!

@chemnerd
If you applied to two impacted majors, the TAG just guarantees you’ll get admitted to UCSD if you get rejected by your department. Basically if you get rejected for your major you’ll be admitted as undeclared and you’ll have to declare a non-impacted major when you enroll.

Yes TAG does guarantee admission if you meet the requirements. However, part of those requirements is completing ALL of the coursework you listed for spring with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. I read your other thread and dropping courses would likely put your TAG into jeopardy, as well as admittance as a normal applicant if your TAG is rejected.

This thread is too depressing haha first I’m in then I’m not. See you guys Saturday lol

@dila
Your argument is valid but the whole reason i dropped my classes was so i wouldnt fall below a 3.5 and my counselor reccomended i drop those classes.
