^^ CONGRATS! It’s because they admit by campus and not major. So they admit people to the campus as a collective whole then once you are admitted they give you your major.

I’m still confused! lol Can they still deny me? I don’t want to celebrate and then get owned XD

They can rescind your acceptance if you dont follow the conditions that they have laid out for you.

Basically, if you meet the requirements for the school, you get accepted; however, if you haven’t met the requirements for the major, a rescind will be issued. I guess I’ll be getting a rescind because I’m not even close to completing all the requirements.

That’s not what I meant. When you get accepted, UCSD has a conditions for which you must meet in order for them not to rescind you. These conditions are usually a 3.0 in your last semester and no grade lower than a C.

And to explain from what I previously said. UCSD admits by campus meaning the highest GPAs are usually the ones admitted. Although they are known to admit lower GPAs averaging 3.52 because the higher GPAs usually got to UCLA or UCB. It is not until they admit that they place you in a major. So if you have a really high GPA and you put Bio and English as your intended major on your application but if they feel that you have not met enough pre-requisites they will admit you as undeclared. UCSD DOES NOT TAKE MAJOR INTO ACCOUNT when they admit you. They are the only UC that does not. It’s odd. This is the reason why you were admitted without completing a ton of your pre-requisites.

That’s really weird. Here I am thinking I knew everything there was to know XD Thanks a bunch for clearing up the confusion for me. Yes, it is really odd. The remaining prereqs will have to be finished over at UCSD, I guess.

^^ Yeah its really weird. haha I had a hard time trying to grasp how UCSD was the only UC that didn’t require any major pre-reqs to be completed to TAG just having a 3.5, IGETC and 60 units was enough.

Are you sure, Actraiin? San not only has a bunch of prereqs missing, but he/she applied to an impacted major (anything within Biological Sciences is impacted); you’d think that would’ve been considered. I’m guessing, though, that San completed the IGETC and thus adhered to TAG (if TAG’d upon applying), which explains the acceptance.

Correct! Is is impacted but I did complete the IGETC. But I did not use TAG while applying. I’m really confused on this matter.

Yes I’m sure.

Second page last Column. “Campuswide selection” It means that everyone is competing against each other no matter the major. But I do believe that those with more major pre-reqs done do have priority for a major.

Well, there you have it. Thanks a lot for really helping me out
Can’t thank you enough. I guess I’m allowed to be happy now that I know I’ve gotten accepted to the school of my choice lol

since the average gpa accepted (from last year i think) was a 3.5 does that mean they still accepted some people with 3.3’s like me? How much of a chance do I stand?

I think you still stand a chance. You have to realize that it’s a 3.5 average. Meaning that people who were admitted with higher than a 3.5 had to be offsetted by those who have below a 3.5 right? or else it would not add up. lol

yeah i realized that lol I completed my last math requirement during fall semester '11 and since then I have done absolutely no math, so I was just checking to make sure lol. hopefully if i get accepted I don’t get stuck with revelle or i’ll be doing 3 calc courses
that would be no bueno!!

uchappytrain what’s your intended major? Everything you ask relates to me too. God I am freaking out.

and how many 3.3’s - 3.4’s would have to be accepted to offset the 3.6- 3.9’s? a good amount? UCSD is my top choice and it’s so much closer to home than davis, plus davis offered me a crappy financial aid package which i am not happy with at all.

edit:

my major is history! I’ve done a few pre reqs that are accepted by other Uc’s but UCSD doesn’t accept any pre reqs from my community college; it just says “no course articulated” on assist for each pre req. Hopefully I can petition the ones I have taken at my community college, and if they accept them then I will have just one pre req left to take at UCSD :D

LOL the exact average GPA of applicants was 3.33. I’m at 3.34. Oh boy this will be the longest wait of my life but I have a good feeling about this…

@san

I’m in a similar situation. Im missing physics (electricity and magnetism) and physics (fluid mechanic) I’m also missing general Chem and differential equations. But I was also accepted to UCSD as a structural engineering major with a 3.72 gpa.

I considered staying at community college another year but it’s so ****ing boring! I can’t make any friends, plus I’m like the only Asian person at my school. Although its so much cheaper for me to stay at a jc then go to a Uc, I don’t want to spend another year living a boring life.

Don’t miss out on an opportunity to live your life. Money shouldn’t be an issue, you can pay it all off when you’re done with school and making big bucks.
Btw, UCSD is on a quarter system so you’ll finish up those classes quicker than you would at a semester system. Best of luck!

@Integraballer Okay, I feel better knowing I’m not the only person with this situation
I’m thinking the same thing! I’m tired of staying at a community college! It’s time to go. I plan to attend UCSD and take classes simultaneously at a community college; however, UCs hate this and they’ll probably put a limit on the courses I can transfer. Best of luck to you too!

same with me u guys, i gonna take some classes at cc when i get to ucsd, luckily i only have to take math :)
