^ Are you seriously asking if people guessed on some questions?

I guess we’re not gonna say anything until March 5th then

ibelieveso, if some makes a better score then good for them.

^ No, because that ruins the curve.

Yes, there are some who will still be taking the open, so discussion should be minimal.

So can we decide on a date when we can start posting questions?

Scores are supposed to be released 3/5, so that would be a safe date :-). I would think that maybe next Friday after 6 pm Pacific Time would be “safe”. Is anyone scheduled to take the exam after that date? Last year kids had conflicts with winter break and their schools were not open during the testing period.

I don’t think anyone around my area is taking it past this week as there is apparently a pretty stringent deadline. For public schools, I think winter break is this upcoming week, so there isn’t a conflict in many places.

Epic USABO thread :):

On a more serious note, should I attempt the Bio Olympiad? I consider myself fairly competent at rote memorization, but I checked out a couple of sample questions, and those questions were pretty hard. I’ll have 2 solid months to study this summer … is that enough?

Will you be in AP Bio next year? If your school offers it, there is certainly no harm in taking it to see how you do :-)

Ideally, for the olympiad you want to go cover most of Campbell. But one of my friends managed to get passed the open without reading chapters 40-50, but he practically memorized all of the other chapters.

A good indicator for the USABO open is the Campbell test bank. After you’re done studying a chapter, take the Campbell test. You should be getting a minimum of 85%, and around 90%, if you want to get past opens.

At least that was my experience at my school.

There’s no harm in taking the Open, which is in February. If you’re a good studier, then two months won’t be a lot, but if you work hard it will probably get you through the open :)

Oh my god, took the Open two days ago and it was DIFFICULT… sighs

I didn’t read the second half of the book yet but I was able to make my way through it. I might have barely made the curve

lol, last year I was literally 1 away from making the curve. ._. I was really mad. Hopefully, that won’t happen again

lol hopefully not

I want my results now D;<

Test was insanely hard. Even with reading Campbell twice and having taken AP bio, I likely won’t even make the cutoff score.

What do you guys mean by some students having extended time to take the exam? Wasn’t like the 18th the last day to send the tests back to CEE? Can’t we come up with a compiled answer list yet…?

[USABO: Last Day for Mailing Open Exams to CEE | Center for Excellence in Education](http://www.cee.org/events/usabo-last-day-mailing-open-exams-cee)

It says that the 18th was the last day to mail them. I don’t understand how there can be extensions?

Some schools have some “extenuating” circumstances that prevent students from taking the exam at the given period. In that case, CEE does grant extensions…
