hey, don’t judge guys…

and yeah, i found that all the answers came much more easily with exposure/experience/built intuition from reading papers

darksigma: did you read any genetics textbook? did you find Molecular Biology of the gene by Watson useful?

passing on questions for my S about the open…

what was the black blob of things? he put fish eggs, but doesn’t think that is right, but the graphic was bad.

more questions to follow…

was the vitamin deficiency question - b12?

and one more for now…

the jumping bird in the jungle…?

Let’s try to refrain from question discussion, 'cause you never know. Last year there were deadline extensions that dragged on for weeks.

yeah, i gave it an extra week… scores come out in just over a week, so i think that we are “safe”

i don’t remember if last year it was the semi’s that dragged on or the open, but i really think everyone has to be done by now.

no, he’s right, oldguy speaks well from experience. and i agree with him. let’s refrain from discussing questions

I am a freshman taking regular biology. (Smart enough to take honors, but school does not offer it. Do you think it is wise for me to start studying?

I’ll give CEE a call on Monday to find out if there are still test takers and will report back then.

If anyone wants to PM me for discussion, go ahead :-).

Hellow! I have a questions for all of you.

Do you guys enjoy studying biology seriously from bottom of your heart and do study the subject each day?

Do you also read bio textbooks you guys have everyday and perhaps sleep with yout textbook?

Just curious…

to be honest, for me, it’s liking Biology
If I didn’t like it then I would not have gotten through the book

My AP biology class won’t use the whole Campbell’s book because the AP curriculum is much more simple. (the AP biology test is straight forward compared to USABO exams)

That said, I’m stuck with all the info I learned for USABO since I did poorly on the Open exam

Honestly, reading research papers is most likely the single most boring thing on this planet. I’m talking about graduate/PhD level. I can barely remember an article after reading it. ._.

I don’t really love biology. I like physics more much. But Biology ain’t so bad. In all likeliness I will only be a semifinalist.

@i disagree

Like previously mentioned, it’s all about having a passion for biology. Personally, I find it fascinating that biology is so applicable to our bodies and explains a great deal of our lives that I like it. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to read the book as I’m doing physics…

I have a quick question: Will Campbell’s 6th Edition suffice to reach semis? As a freshman, i want to get there in my sophmore year… Any ideas?

Yes, but with added resources. The 7th edition is online in PP format.

@darksigma

Can you pm me a link of a research article that you find particularly interesting? Thanks.

what do you mean monster?

throughout this thread there are several recommendations of books to use to prepare for the usabo, that is what i mean. the campbell alone isn’t quite enough. the 6th edition will do, but if you can find other resources (7th or 8th edition) use those, plus whatever else you can find.
