To the person who emailed me (sorry, accidentally deleted): Daughter’s acceptance to Villanova was in arts and sciences. She never emailed or sent them a letter stating it was her first choice until yesterday morning, and she got the call last night!

I am writing to provide you with an update on the status of your application to NYU. As you may have heard, we admitted some students from our wait list. In fact, we have admitted roughly 75 students from the wait list thus far. Those students have until May 20 to respond to their offer of admission.

As a result, we will likely not extend any additional offers of admission until late May, if at all. We will provide you with an update on your application status regardless of whether or not we will be able to offer you admission in early June. I can assure you that we will communicate with you either way. In the interim, please feel free to review our wait list FAQ if you have not done so already.

We respectfully ask that you do not send us any additional materials whatsoever at this time and that you not call or email to inquire about your status on the wait list. There is no additional information we can share at this time. Again, I can assure you that we will communicate with you either way about your status in early June.

Does anybody have any knowledge of how the colleges’ practice of turning to the waiting list coordinates with the practice of continuing to accept applications? Do schools perhaps entertain late applications from people who were disappointed elsewhere, hoping to get some stronger freshman than the waiting list might yield?

The NACAC list seems to draw heavily from the lower end of the academic totem pole, but not entirely. I see Sarah Lawrence, Ursinus, Wheaton (MA) and Drew on the NACAC list. I’d be surprised if they don’t have waiting lists, but I don’t know for sure.

Adding Williams College. Two reported getting off of waitlist today.

I remember from reading another threads that Sarah Lawrence had pretty limited financial assistance/schoalrships. Lots of complaints posted. I wonder if that has them (and possibly some of the others) seeing a lower yeild than expected? And maybe thinking that many on the wait list will not accept a spot?

GClawmom and marcdvl. Why would you doubt any poster? Why would anyone lie? If you are questioning whether or not any school has gone to their waitlist based on a posting on CC, wouldn’t a simple phone call to the admissions office take about 2 seconds to confirm the truth? Once they go to the list they won’t tell you about any specific person or number of admitted students, but surely they would confirm whether they have gone to their list? Some of the best schools only take a few or effectively 0% off the waitlist and if you are waiting for a deluge of posters before you accept reality, surely you can see that will never come? Just saying.
