texaspg…She’s determined to somehow make this work. We realize we’re going to incur a lot of travel expense this fall. She’s many hours away so driving isn’t feasible for TX interviews; however, it will be possible for other private schools on her list in her current area should she get an interview. I’ve heard many schools give you a choice of dates and don’t automatically assign you a specific day. If so, she should be able to juggle everything. Saturdays are the only days that might be problematic. If she can arrange a Friday or Monday interview, that’d be great.

Thanks, WOWM! I’m sure I’ll be asking you and the other veteran parents numerous questions throughout this year.

Congratulations to jc40’s D (and to her parents)!! First of our 2013-2014 group! Fingers crossed for one and all!

Congrats JC40!!!

Thanks, UrbanGardner and learninginprog! I echo your wishes, UrbanGardner…I hope all of our kiddos are successful this cycle!

Congrats to your D, jc40!!!

Outstanding news, jc40! I’m sure this is the first of many to come.

jc40, thrilled she already has an II !!! You’re so lucky to be from TX that has so many great options. And your DD is a prime candidate too. How many applications will she be sending out.

Thanks, Pinkstuffz, mrpenguin, & limabeans!

Limabeans…She has submitted 28 primaries; however, should she get in early this fall, she won’t pursue secondaries for many and will withdraw her app.

Hrm. I’m a little concerned about the timing on this, JC. Unless things have changed, the earliest she might get an admission is October 15. That’s WAY too late to submit secondaries.

BDM…Sorry, I meant she wouldn’t pursue interviews after 11/15 not secondaries. She’s applied broadly. TX offers a pre-match. The TX schools are a very good value. Should she be offered a pre-match in November, many of the costlier privates would fall off. She knows, though, the chance of pre-matching is slim.

Usually people getting early interviews get at least one prematch.

She’s gonna be OK. Pre-match, match. She has put herself in great position to go to “a” Texas medical school.

Phew. Yes, this is sensible. Of course, she should perform the act of SCHEDULING the interviews as soon as she can – but she should schedule them to take place in December or January, so that they can be cancelled with reasonable notice.

I canceled an interview the night before I was supposed to leave for it (on a flight paid for by the school). Not my proudest moment but you do what you need to

Yale secondary!

As always, thanks for the advice, BDM! I will definitely pass this strategy on to her!

Congrats, mcatflow, on the Yale secondary!

mcatflow, does Yale screen before sending out secondaries? Congrats!

No. “All applicants will be invited to submit an on-line Yale Secondary Application.”

D got her Yale secondary yesterday as well. She now has three from the private SOM and is not verified. AMCAS is so far behind this year; they’re still verifying those who submitted on Day 3. Although D submitted early (Day 2 or 3), her transcripts weren’t marked “received” until around June 22nd. They’re averaging less than 200 per day. Last year, they received 45,000 apps and were much further ahead. At the rate AMCAS is verifying this year, they may get to everyone’s by next March, LOL!
