^ Thanks for the correction. You could always remember these details better than most others (including me) could.

kristen…Thank you for your very, very thorough and helpful answer to my question. You and my D sound similar. I feel relatively certain she’s going to be like you and choose the school she feels will be the best fit.

My son and I just came back from Philly where he finished his UPenn interview today. The interview group was the largest of all. Today apparently was an MSTP interview day. There were 25 MD interviewees and 25 MSTP interviewees. This, according to him a more eclectic group. Brown had the largest contingent. There were kids from UPenn, JHU, Rice, Washington and Lee, Williams and more in the group. The interviews went well for my son. For the first time, he encountered an interviewer who also did research in the same area as that of my son (surgical robotics). He felt that the students he talked to at UPenn were some of the most accomplished. Their curriculum is more traditional with clinical exposure starting from the middle of second year.

My son said the funniest part of his interview was the class he sat in. Apparently, it was a microbiology lecture. The professor, an elderly lady, made each of the twenty slides she used into a song - yes a song. She led the entire class into singing the song with her!

As of now, he has his last interview scheduled on Dec 7th at Columbia. An invite from Harvard would definitely be the icing on the cake for him :)

Adding Congratulations! to TatinG’s D, learninginprog’s S, Plumazul, and Pinkstuffz. Great news!
UrbanGardener - So glad your S got some good news. There is more to come, I am sure. D got accepted to her med school off a wait list… and today we call her Doctor H.

I keep mentioning Dr. H for motivation! What date did she clear waitlist?

Congrats to Dr. H and her parents :)

to chime in on the previously-mentioned topic of curriculum styles, my school’s preclinical years (first and second) are heavily based on PBL, and i would be happy to chat about it with anyone who might be interested via pm. (or here, doesn’t matter)

spoiler alert: i am a huge fan of the systems-based PBL curriculum we have

This (weekend before) Thanksgiving, I would like to thank the American people for the NIH, and their MSTP grants which will allow me to become a physician-scientist over the next 6-8 years!! I am so happy to know for sure exactly what I’ll be doing next summer, all that’s left to decide is where? (I’ve withdrawn from several schools this weekend so now I only have 9 possible locations)

Congrats to everyone else with good news :D

Congrats Plum. Sounds like you will enjoy your thanksgiving.

^ Very much so. I will also be able to relax and enjoy my remaining interviews much more.

Hearty congratulations, plumazul! Looking forward to reading about your discoveries a few years down the road.

Congrats Plumazul!!! I am sure you have more to come!

Thanksgiving: DS will have Thanksgiving off as MS3. It is a pleasant surprise! We thought he would not have this Thursday and Friday off.

However, his flight back home will be early next week. He could use that time working on his new relationship - only a brief period of time though as she went back to her home for the Thanksgiving break. Hmm… Should he postpone his flight as this is important? If only their relationship has been more solid – Then she could possibly bring him to her family during this break! She may not even want to mention DS to her parents yet at the current stage of development. (texaspg, Heard that the money was involved in a one-on-one dinner event. So it was officially a date according to your “definition” of date :))

mcat2. lol He’s gonna skin you alive.

mcat2,
Have a great time with your S!
D. is coming tomorrow (2 hours of driving for her, hopefully expressway is still OK tomorrow, not as busy). The clinic where she will be tomorrow will be done at 12, but may run later. She is at various clinics now. After New Year, back to heavy duty rotation (IM). She started thinking about her next year schedule, she has some plan…planning taking Step 2 later, she was one of the first to take Step 1, but feel that some elective rotations might be more important to have earlier in her 4th year to get them on application…4th year is coming…OMG

Mcat2 - Christmas is usually when there is time to meet the parents, at least for the traditional program college students. Most of us MS/PhD students got 2-3 weeks off at Christmas.

I am still waiting for the second girl to declare her feelings. :D

Mcat2- You are hilarious!. If we don’t hear from you, I am inclined to believe your DS may do what Curm mentioned. lol

Congrats Pluma!

DS will have a whole month winter break. His MS3 fall semester started early. But he has not had much break since the beginning of this semester. Definitely have not had such a 5-day “fall break” that was newly introduced for UG and (likely) graduate schools.

MiamiDAP, DS has completed his IM rotation. The IM was moderately intense at his school, I think. DS said the attending, etc., would often check whether these lowly MS3 would learn somethings beforehand. He seems to like it. But he has not had the extremely intense ones yet (Are the intense ones surgery and/or OB/GYN?)

Congrats to pluma, learningprog’s S, etc., for their jobs well done up to now. As far as I remember, the II/interview/acceptance activities tend to be not as active for everybody in this time of the year. But the activities will likely heat up again starting next March fir those non-rolling schools.

Plum is already practicing in the mirror how to introduce herself as Dr. Dr. Plumazul, MD/PhD. :p

We need to concentrate on UG’s S with all our positive vibes.
