2013-2014 Applicants and their parents.....

texaspg, For what it is worth, I pass DS’s “wisdom” to your UG’s S. When he found out he now needs to initiate and maintain the relationship during the busy rotation, he said he should have gotten this part of his life in order a long time ago when he was an UG (But he would not have the chance to meet THE ONE :)) He somehow prefers not to start finding his future mate after he is working in the hospital.

He also once mentioned that his UG may not be a good place to meet a future mate but I forget what the reason he cited at that time. (Maybe the school is too small? Most students may know they will be dispersed all over the places after graduation so they tend to be unwilling to commit to the relationship?) One of his college friends not only has been married, having a kid, but also has been divorced!

But maybe your S (or D?) is already ahead of DS on this front.

MCAT2, MiamiDAP, and others whose kids are coming home for Thanksgiving…I hope y’all have a wonderful time with your children!

Plum…A big congrats! Your accomplishments are so impressive especially in light of your age. WTG!

We will be traveling across the country to watch D’s very last football game. 17 consecutive years of cheer have almost come to a close (kinda bittersweet). I joke with her and tell her if she decides to go to med school in Dallas she can always tryout for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders if she misses it. Her response?

No boyfriend as of yet for D. Between everything she does at school, she simply hasn’t had the time. Perhaps she’ll meet a nice young man in med school…who knows?

We will be especially thankful this Thursday, as good news arrived this evening.

Spill the beans ! New invite ?

Accepted! School he loved in his “adopted” state.

Woohoo! The goats are dancing! Everybody eats !

I’m soooooo happy for you and your son, UrbanGardner!

Wow…Congrats UG to your DS. Thanksgiving has arrived a FEW days earlier!

I guess the good vibes worked for UrbanGardener’s son!

Congratulations.

Is anyone else still waiting on the first admission here?

Mcat - got no sons. referring to UrbanGardener.

D in UG is “not allowed” to worry about mates yet. Need to get into med school first. :D

Thanks to all for your good wishes and support in recent weeks. This is truly an exceptional community.

As someone who “lurked” on CC all through DS’s undergraduate application cycle, let me pick up on texaspg’s note, and pass along the “good vibes” that went our way to any 2013-2014 lurkers, applicants or parents, still in waiting.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

UG,

Big congrats to your S for his great news, right before the Thanksgiving holiday!

Wow,you go away for a day and all sorts of stuff happens.

Congratulations to plum and UG’ S! Good news is the best kind. (And makes the turkey dinner all that much easier to enjoy.)

Congratulations all!

UG: my acceptance was just before Christmas and it was quite a popular conversation topic at the family Christmas party. I usually get annoyed and don’t like lots of attention drawn to me, but this is a big deal for a lot of people–I hope he can sit back, relax, and enjoy the good wishes and not get too irritated telling someone for the umteenth time a recap of his app season. All in good fun! Huge congrats, as the first is the best for sure :)

Congrats!
:)

Congrats to all!

mcat2,
“Are the intense ones surgery and/or OB/GYN?)” - D. has done surgery. Intensity is not what is the hardest for her. It is personality clash. D. definitely does not match to the surgery type of personalities and she completely disagree with their approach of getting the best effort / perfection out of everybody. I do to. There are ways that are very different. But as usual that was not a surprise but rather what she has expected (surgery has been ruled out way back in High School). She has OB/GYN/Peds after IM. Got IM where she requested (i will be worrying, no chance at walking any more, will drive…in a snow too).
Besides Surgery, D. is done with Psych / Neuro and almost done with Research.

Happy Thanksgiving!
UrbanGardener - Congratulations to you and your dear son! I am so very happy for you.
mcat2 - Thanks! Enjoy this time with your son.
texaspg - D was not the typical CC applicant. She applied late, to only one school, and did not interview until after Christmas. She was prepared to take a glide year and continue to do research, and then apply more widely the next cycle. She was happy to be placed on the wait list. She was offered her place in the class at the end of May. This Thanksgiving she is studying for Step 3  so we will bring our Thanksgiving dinner to her.

Catching up after the Thanksgiving break. Congrats to UG’s S and to Plumazul! I’m sure that brought some added excitement to the family dinner table this Thanksgiving.

Happy holidays, folks!

Kal and others here I am still a sophomore and have been lurking around this thread. Not sure if it’s already posted anywhere but it would be really helpful to know the stats of your sons/daughters (like gap, MCAT, ECs and the like) to get an idea of reality. However much you guys wish to reveal is good.

Thanks a bunch!

you can always browse around mdapplicants.com too

It doesn’t really matter what others stats are, only yours.

Work extremely hard. Maximize your GPA and MCAT score. Volunteer, research, shadow, teach, be active at your undergrad.

Apply to many, many schools.

Be grateful to be admitted; it’s the most difficult post-grad process of all.
