Took your daughter’s resume from her hand to scrutnize it?!!! OMIGOSH!!! So rude! How did your daughter handle that?

Grabbed her resume? Why would she even think that was OK to do?

Grabbing a resume uninvited IS rude, but I think we all have to remember that these are 17-18 year old kids under a LOT of pressure (the ones with Mamma Rose-type parents especially). Some of them are going to do stupid things. Give us enough time and pressure and uncertainty and we all will.

Jkellynh17 - I get that as well. My S is a different person in that high pressure environment. He’s normally pretty silly/funny and out going but under those circumstances he pretty much said hello to the other kids, answered questions if he was asked and stayed focused. This surprised even me.

Good luck at Elon iammtmom! Looking forward to hearing about your and D’s experience in NC. Hopefully your daughter won’t run into any more rude kids grabbing resumes, geez!
My D is generally pretty friendly but in the 2 auditions she has done so far she only interacted with a friend she new from camp. Everyone else she was pleasant to but she wanted to concentrate on preparing mentally for her own audition.
I admit I’m kind of looking forward to an audition where the parents are all together (haven’t run into that yet) and I can listen to parents behaving badly (bragging/trying to psyche other parents out to I can just silently take it in and bring it back to CC later - so far everyone has been very civilized - guess I’ve been waiting for some “real housewives” bad behavior to break up the tension…LOL)

^^^LOLOL! I would want to do that too, cellomom. I think unifieds will be a great opportunity to do that. I have to work while I’m there, but hopefully, I can come downstairs in the afternoon to catch some RHO(insert city here) shenanigans!!

My son was there too at the point park audition on Saturday … And I think I went on the campus tour with you. He was wondering about the vocal portion- why some were sent to another room and some were not. Any clarification???

Yes- in my D’s words “she grabbed my Headshot/Resume from me”. My D thought perhaps it was more about the girl saying “Look at mine”!!!

My D’ is a trooper, she said she took the girls 2 page resume that was offered to her and said nice. and handed it back.

^^I know my child would NOT have been so nice. Rolling eyes, glaring, total disgust…that’s what she would have done. LOL! Your daughter is absolutely correct, though. It was all about that girl showing off her TWO page resume. Hmmm, there’s a parent and child who aren’t on CC! HAAAAA!!!

Well the funny part about this…is that this all happened under the watchful eye of the sweet sophomore MT student who was waiting with them outside the monologue room. When she saw the exchange she winked at my daughter and titled her head to the “grabber”, as if to say. Oh brother!

Just a lesson - you are being watched constantly. My D has friends in current programs, who say that the current students that are there as guides and ushers, are asked for input too. So you never know who is watching you.

MTMajorCook - So glad you enjoyed your time at Wright State! It is an outstanding program. The audition circut is an interesting one for sure! I certainly enjoyed the “entertainment” provided by some of the parents as I waited for my son’s auditions last year. So many parents talked about “the most talented person anyone had ever seen” and “her agent said just to go to Broadway forget about college” I wished I had brought along my autograph book!!! LOL!!! Enjoy the experience everyone. Your child WILL land where they are supposed to be. And next year you will be on CC telling prospective students parents the same thing! Break legs! I will be cheering you and your kids on from the wings!!!

MT17WSU - one of the parents asked about freshmen performance opportunity and one of the students said “our male swing in Oklahoma is a freshmen”. I thought “I sorta know him” LOL. Definitely a great first audition experience!

Thanks, all. We are a year out from the audition circuit, but I already feel a little overwhelmed. How many schools, what my D should wear, 16 bars, 32 bars, 1 minute monologues, 2 minute monologues, etc. etc. The insights provided here are helpful. Deep breaths and realize that whatever will happen will happen. Best of luck to all who are going through this, this year.

Broadwaybrando. I do think we were on the tour together. When my D was in the Q&A with current students, someone asked about being sent to be seen again, and students on the panel said that when they auditioned, some of them were seen twice and some only once, and that it truly is not an indicator of making a cut of some sort. I did find the current students to be really nice. At lunch, 2 students we didn’t know at all approached my D and asked if she was auditioning for MT. When she said yes, they old her that they were currently in the program, and they just wanted to wish her luck! Also, we use MTCA and a freshman in the program who is from near where we live made a point to find us at lunch as well and wish her luck! I hope your S had a good experience too! Maybe we’ll meet again at a future audition! My D did make a friend. The girl she was paired up with in the dance call is going to be at BW next sat and so are we. They hit it off and are looking forward to seeing each other again!

Kategrizz. Thanks for the info. My S was not taken to the second room but his friend was. We were not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing! He really loved PPU COPA. He will be at BW this Friday but two kids from his high school will be there Saturday. Break a leg to your D and feel free to message me if you get any info that you think would help me. We are new to this whole process and slightly over- whelmed!

Thanks to all for the great information! We live in the west coast region so will only be able to do auditions at Unifieds in February. But it’s so nice to hear how things are going at the individual schools this fall. Really appreciate this thread and all of you contributing to it!

BALDWIN WALLACE

Recently returned from beautiful Baldwin Wallace University. We arrived yesterday and apparently we are going to eat at every Olive Garden nearby because we are now 2 for 2. Their production of Carousel was amazing. It was very innovative. Amazing talent, every one of them could dance, S thoroughly enjoyed it and was very impressed. All the parents/kids that saw it raved about it today.

This AM started with early check in at 10AM followed by a walking tour around campus. Regular check in was at 12:30. Really a beautiful college town. The conservatory (or as they call it at BW “The Con”) is really new and is an amazing facility. So cool to walk around and hear music all around you. You can hear every instrument being played. The freshman dorms were very recently remodeled, they are very nice and situated pretty much in the middle of The Con, the dance studios and the theatres. Lots of bikes parked about. At check in S received his skill test and audition time. He was in group A so skills test at 11:10 and audition was at 1:05. He chose to skip the lunch because it was almost 12 before group A’s skills tests were done and he didn’t want to eat that close to audition. So…good thing I had that english muffin with peanut butter at 7:30 cause whew…I was still stuffed. Skills test was exactly as they describe it. He text me “I bombed the piano test, I’m in level 1”…well he had like one semester of piano in high school not sure where he thought he’d place LOL. He was happy he matched pitch very well. So after that…we sat in the car, he warmed up, grabbed his audition clothes and we went back into “The Con” for the 12:45 welcome meeting. At that time the prospective students were assigned their current student and off they went. My S did not think he would like this but afterwards he was so happy to have his escort with him. He felt so supported and encouraged, he was pleasantly surprised. 10 minutes before his audition his escort showed him to a practice room where he warmed up more and at exactly 1:05 he was introduced to Vicky Bussert and Scott Plate. He presented his 3 songs and Vicky selected the 2 she wanted to hear. He said it didn’t last long and the only feedback he received from Vicky and Scott was “good” and “good” after each of his songs. Then he left, his escort hugged him, gave him feedback and my S felt super good about the audition. Different than the chatty WSU panel, they stick to a strict schedule at BW.

Also at 1PM the parents meeting started. The director of admission gave a presentation, answered questions and we spoke to 2 current students for an hour. One was a vocal performance senior the other a MT junior. This just in…BW will require prescreens next year. They also told us MT students are very very rarely offerred any talent award. Talent scholarships are primarily awarded to the musical instrument majors. They do have a academic merit scholarship, my S would qualify for $12K per year based on his GPA and SATs…so I dunno this is a little scarey to me.

After S’s audition he waited with the other prospective students and got to interact a lot with current students. When my meeting was over I text him “do you want to go eat” he said “no i"m good, I have friends now see you at the dance call”…so off I went to Burger King by myself. Dance call was for at 4:15 for everyone and ended exactly on time at 5PM. He said it was a doable dance call but he wouldn’t call it easy.

I now see the danger of on campus auditions, he liked BW before this but now he loves it and I know a rejection will sting. He would really love to attend this school. We should hear some time in December.

Thank you MTMajorCook! We are in a hotel for D’s BW audition tomorrow!

kategrizz - have a great time! Its a really relaxed day. Tell your D to break a leg!!

A round of applause for the BW report back!!! Is the newly renovated dorm for The Con students only?
