The D and I even hung out a bit in Austin the night we landed (because I’m adventurous like that and we had a hankerin’ for hopdoddy burger bar)! No problems getting back on the highway. As long as the nice lady on my phone tells me where to go, I’m there!

We are staying at the Embassy Suites. It is about five miles from campus, I hope I don’t regret being that far away! Someone asked me if we had been offered a Sunday audition date and we had, we just chose to go Saturday. I haven’t had enough posts on cc to send private messages…silly!

Embassy Suites is very nice and very close. Not much farther than Hampton. GSOMTmom- hopdaddy rocks! Best of luck to everyone. Yes, the program is amazing and we are truly lucky. I hope you are all as lucky! You all want the best for your children and I applaud the sacrifices you make.

I need to add- I know kids and parents that feel just as lucky and blessed at other schools. Kids seem to love where they are. Theatre kids are happy doing what they love wherever they do it. Don’t let one place be the only dream place. They can all be the dream come true.

^^ So true, theatremomma!

dancemtmom, start posting congrats on some prescreen and acceptance threads and get up to 15 posts so you can PM! Just 10 more to go! HAHAHAHA

Anyone know if TX State takes walk-ins at Chicago unifieds??

Did we get your child excited about Tx State, MTMommaJAA?! I know of someone who did a walk in three years ago. I don’t have current info, though.

I’ve always been excited about Tx State. My only concern for the program was it’s location…but it’s reputation is quickly growing. Obviously, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the program and Kaitlin and her staff. We’ll see I guess…

I wouldn’t let the location stop you too much. I see you’re in Woodstock. Taking Southwest out of BWI would probably be quite convenient for you and fare deals can still be found with Southwest.

I meant mostly from connections and carreer opportunities for the S.

OH! Kaitlin brings the connections and professional performance opportunities to Tx State! If you have questions, theatremomma has been a great resource for me. She’s had to deal with countless emails and pm’s from me!

Oh you crack me up GSOMTMom! I have been stalking CC for months now…just haven’t been saying much but I am sooooo excited to get into audition season! I love seeing all the kids and parents getting pumped up about their auditions. Everyone we have met so far has been sincere and helpful. I think musical theatre draws a special type of person :)

There should be a sign up sheet outside the audition room for walk ins. If they like you, you may be invited to callbacks.

dancemtmom, I’m glad I crack you up (I’m a bit of a ham if you can’t tell…LOL).

TX State was the first on campus audition we’ve attended, but everyone there was so kind–no divas or parents behaving badly. Maybe the location brought out the Southern hospitality in all of us! I think that everyone here on CC is willing to pitch in and offer suggestions and support whenever needed. Great bunch! Continue to take advantage.

The D expects that the divas and true craziness will turn up at Unifieds. I tend to agree with SO many people from all walks in one place…

You know what they say “If you aren’t seeing any divas you are the diva” ROFL…I kill me

^^Leave it to you to chime in with that! LOL^^ Perhaps it’s true. As the kids say #sorrynotsorry!! hahahaaaaa!

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE

This will be short and sweet. Son and husband arrived early on the Gorham, Maine campus. This was the first of three audition dates offered for the BM, MT concentration degree. Amazingly, there were three males and one female. The female was already a student at the university and was hoping to switch majors. My son knew her from a jazz camp they had both attended a couple years before. Son also had met one of the male attendees at a Thespian conference the year before. The other male had traveled from Mass. Son said the dance call was pretty easy, and son is a novice dancer. Next was the singing and son felt he did well, next was the monlogues. The auditors were fairly neutral in audition. Son then had the theory and aural test individually with a Voice Performance professor. She gave him extremely positive feedback about his audition and test performance, which gave him a boost. The day ended with a parent/student info meeting. I had instructed my husband to ask when they could expect to hear a decision if no one else asked. No one did, but when my husband asked my son whispered “Dad, mom said not to ask any questions”, lol. So husband told him I had allowed him to ask that one.
The University is part of the University of Maine system and has 9,000 plus students. There is another part of the campus in Portland, Maine’s largest city, about 15 minutes away. Son has been academically accepted with a scholarship and would be part of the Honor College. Husband thought the campus was great, “It was so much cleaner than Carnegie Mellon!” Yeah, and about $40,000 a year cheaper!! Son had a great day, but has many more schools to audition for, and like many other kids from small population states, is curious about the big world out there.

Entertainersmom… My D was admitted to the honors college at Drew and her scholarship says she has to maintain a 3.6 GPA to keep it. Does that seem doable for a theater student? They seem awfully busy? Wonder if anyone else thinks this seems high…

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my husband texted me from the audtion to say that the first one out of the dance call was a male who then went to his parent and loudly trashed one of the other student’s dancing (not son’s). I later learned that this rude male came to the audition without sheet music! My husband said that son was by far the most prepared and the only one with a head shot and resume.

And for comic relief, my men dropped bits and pieces of the audition essentials around the house when they came home. I had to search for the new “Man Bag” I had bought at LL Beans for my husband to carry the music binders in, talk about a heart stopping moment until I found the bag!

Wow Bisouu, 3.6 seems high to me under any circumstances, and not the usual threshold I’ve seen for other scholarships. Could it be the grade point needed to remain in the Honors College? My son’s scholarship is separate from the Honor’s College, and I think the University of Southern Maine’s bar is not set too high in comparison to others.
