2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

The deadline is little less than a month away, I thought we could start a thread to post stats and help each other out.

1) Current College: ACC
2) Current GPA: 3.42 (combined with UTSA from last year)
3) First Choice Major/College: International Relations and Global Studies
5) Second Choice Major/College: Undergraduate Studies
6) Transferable Credit Hours: 49
7)Extracurricular Activities/Recommendations/Essays:

Internships: PR for a start-up, and submissions for a literary magazine.

Direct Service Volunteer for a non-profit organization that specializes in domestic violence and sexual assault for Asian women.

High school (senior year): Social Officer for HOSA, organized a district-wide health fair, and a district-wide donation drive for domestically abused children.

Recommendation/Essays: haven't started, but if I do get a recommendation from the professor I'm thinking of, it'll be "good" at the least (or so I'm hoping)

I've seen enough people on here get into COLA with a 3.4, so here's hoping.

I think you have a pretty good chance because of your major. Chance me.

I go to Dallas Baptist University and I have 3.538 but the gpa system is different here I should have a 3.6. I have completed 25 hours and will have 41 by the end of this semester. My volunteer work is great and my essays were great. I’m majoring in business at DBU but changing mine for UT. I applied for communications advertising as my first and undeclared as my second. I really hope I get in.

I also played sports all throughout highschool and my recommendation letter may come from someone who used to be on the board there.

I application status currently says “application in review”. How about y’all? And does anyone know when we might find out about acceptance?

My application is done except for my recommendation letter, which should be in this week. Here’s my info:

Current College: ACC

Current GPA: 3.88

Credits: 53 (63 by end of this semester); not sure how many will transfer yet. At least one of them won’t since it’s remedial math.

First Choice College/Major: COLA/Psychology; want to minor in statistics

Second Choice College/Major: Undergraduate Studies

Extracurriculars:

 • Member of Phi Theta Kappa
 • Work 20ish hours per week for pay

High School: Received GED in 2006.

Essays: Not as good as I would’ve wanted, but I’m really better at research papers than personal writing.

Recommendations: Excellent recommendation from my physical anthropology professor; I had the top grade in her class last semester.

My application is finally finished. I am waiting on two letters of recommendation. One was written by my Spanish professor, and the second letter was written by my Sales Supervisor at my seasonal job.

Well here is my my info:

Current University: University of North Texas

Race/Ethnicity: Hispanic

Current GPA: 3.331

Credits: 50 (63 by the end of the semester)

Current University: The University of Maine at Farmington (But I AM in-state for Texas)

Current GPA: 3.36

Credits: 48 now and 64 at the end of the semester (My credits are going to be really messed up though. I attend a 4-credit a class school where it’s a pain to transfer in and out of so we’ll see what happens…)

First Choice College/ Major: COLA/English

Second Choice College: Education

Extracurriculars:

-Volunteer at the animal shelter
-Volunteer at the elementary school
-A program at the elementary school called Lunch Buddies
-Volunteer at a cat shelter

Essays:I chose to write all three essays and literally wrote them like my life depended on it. I’ve gotten lots of feedback on them so I think they’re the best they can be.

Recommendations: I have two letters one from my professor who saw how hard I worked throughout her class and ended up getting an A. Another from my mentor when I interned in a middle school. She saw who I am, my character, and got a good feel for my personality.

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Also under EC in high school I was captain of our colorguard for two semesters. I figured I should add that. Oops.

College: SMU
GPA: 3.9 now (end of this semester closer to 3.7)
Credits: 32
Major Choice 1: Mechanical Engineering
Major Choice 2: Geology
2 Letters of Recommendation
Good amount volunteer work
President of Club in High School
Decent essays (nothing incredible but they aren’t bad)

Wondering what chances are, especially for Jackson School of Geoscience. Haven’t heard hardly anything about it.

Broward college
Gpa: 3.87
Texas Tech
Gpa: 4.00 ( I hope)
Petroleum Engineering
Geosciences
Around 60
Not much extracurricular, presidential/dean list, 2 rec letters,

I’m really not counting on UT since I’m not a texas resident, and heard that it’s near impossible to waive the out of state tuition in UT. I basically applied for fun

kevsheehy,

Why are you looking to transfer out of SMU? I am also applying there as transfer, and would love some feedback on the school?

It’s better programs for what I’m interested in at UT, and most importantly the tuition at SMU is incredibly high. I can transfer and my parents will cover the bill or I’ll have to start taking out student loans here to make up the difference.

I have a 3.538 hopefully a 3.8 after this semester. I will have 41 hours after this semester. I applied 1st voice communications advertising and second undeclared. Is it easy to get in undeclared? I have great essays volunteer work and rec letters. What are my chances if transferring in?

I made a few mistakes on my resume but sent in updated ones. Do you know if they will still review the old wrong one?

1) Current College: SFASU
2) Current GPA: 4.0
3) First Choice Major/College: Pre-nursing
5) Second Choice Major/College: Biology
6) Transferable Credit Hours: 36
7)Extracurricular Activities/Essays:

 • HOSA and Mu Alpha Theta in HS
 • president’s/dean’s list
 • Not much in college, I did some volunteer service earlier
 • I tried to write the best papers I could write and had it revised as well. I feel like I did well on them. :)

Good luck everyone!!

UTD current freshman
Gpa: 3.75 first semester, probably 3.85 after spring
First choice: Mccombs
Second Choice: cola/ econ
Transferable hours: 34; 49 at the end of spring semester
Extracurricular: bunch of volunteering, vp of club in high school, multiple competition awards in high school, chair of business organization at Utd
Recs/essays: pretty good rec, decent essays (not done yet)

Is it true that if you have more than 30 credit hours excluding your spring semester than they will make a decision without even looking at your second sem. Spring grades? Hopefully thats not the case because I’m fairly confident I can get a 4.0 this semester. Thanks

Looking to apply as transfer student to McCombs for Fall 2014

Currently attending ACC with GPA of 4.0
3+yrs international work experience as asistant accountant in Ireland.

Currently working in Austin as full charge bookkeeper for 2+ yrs

pretty decent essays and letter of recs
40+ transferable credit hours(includes all 4 indicator classes)

Would do you think? Do I have a chance
Thank you

Question - I’ll have 36 transferable credit by the end of Spring 2013. The UT application status check thing says I’ll have to send transcripts of Spring 2013 by June 1. I’ll have my final grades mid-May so it’s no issue, but will this delay the decision made on my admission?

Hughstan, they won’t make a decision until they have those grades from this semester.

I was hoping that wouldn’t be the case. The wait is gonna be unbearable, but thank you. :)
