2013/2014 Fall Transfer Thread

@Whatevdude Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Yes, I got an update about 2 weeks after I submitted my app on mystatus saying that I don’t have enough hours and that I need to submit my spring transcript when it becomes available. But I was just wondering if I could use credit to get my transcript to 30 hrs from the 15 I’ve completed instead of waiting another month and a half for school to finish. I’ve got a few other schools I’m applying to and they send decisions earlier than UT in my case, and they also have two-week reply dates if I get accepted so I’d just like to know what my options are since I’m also applying for fin aid from UT as well.

@WhatevDude - Hmm… I didn’t know that. Guess all I can do is hope for the best. I submitted a rather lengthy explanation yesterday.

@propayne7 - I submitted the appeal yesterday. I’m hoping that online document submission is as credible as fax, then (who still uses fax?).

I appreciate the comments, guys - makes me a little better regarding this whole mess. Thanks for suggesting the appeal, too, I had no idea that I could at least try to win them over, but at least now I have some small shred of hope!

Here’s to everything going well for the rest of you!

@nightblade, I had to submit an appeal due to an error I made on a date that didn’t match my transcript. It got approved, took about a week. Now my mystatus shows application complete/on time.

@lelouchftw: If you find yourself in that situation, I would contact UT admissions directly and explain your situation. They’re generally very friendly and helpful, and there might be something that can be done under extenuating circumstances to allow them to review your app early (i.e. submitting mid-term reports with grades and evals from current professors). I doubt they’ll allow anything like this just in general, because I think most people are in a similar situation w/ every school having radically different timeframes, but if they know you’re in a position where you’re considering turning down a sure thing to wait for them and/or that you’ll be revoking your UT application instead if they can’t speed things up, there’s a chance they’ll work with you somehow. (During business hours they have online chat with admissions counselors available as well.)

If that doesn’t work, but your can’t bring yourself to pull your UT app & take the sure thing, then I would get in touch with the accepting school’s admissions office and ask if they allow extensions to offer decisions under extenuating circumstances. They may be able to work with you on that end, too, but be sure to have a specific timeframe for how much longer you’ll need.

Whatever you do, don’t wait until a day or 2 before that 2-wk thing expires. I would start calling around to find out options the day you receive word so that if something like mid-term reports is an option, you’ll have time to get them what they need before you have to decide.

Hi everyone! I just joined earlier today and this is my first post. Y’all are making me so nervous with such high GPAs! I’m applying for my junior year to the education school in hopes of pursuing a career in special education. I am coming from Fordham University with a GPA of a 3.29. I know it’s not as high and I am sad the admissions doesn’t consider the school you come from. However, I wrote very good essays (if I do say so myself) and emphasized my interest in teaching special ed. I went for in for an interview and submitted a recommendation as well. I realize the average transfer gpa is around a 3.6 but I was wondering if any of you knew of someone getting in to the education department with a gpa roughly the same as mine. I would really appreciate it if i could have some feedback because just like all of you I am dying to be a longhorn!

Can someone please chance me. I would really appreciate it…

I’m applying as a transfer to UT Austin for my junior year starting fall 2013.

Stats:

Current sophomore with 44 hrs - 3.3 GPA (57 hrs 3.4 - 3.5 GPA after spring) . A D in comp 1 from dual enrollment in H.S. really brings down my GPA  I’m retaking it now and I have a 96!

First choice: CNS - Physics

Second choice: COLA - Envirmental science

About 150+ hours of community service at a church and a WWII air plane museum.

What do you all think?

@karaye313 I am applying to Special Education as well!

@uttransfer28 ah thats awesome!! fingers crossed for both of us!

Who else has the application incomplete? Mine says that i need to send a transcript. Its driving me crazy because i submitted it 5 weeks ago and its not on my status yet.

Mine was like that too. I called up at admissions and told them about the issue and it was fixed that day. I can’t promise that is what will happen but I would definately call admissions and notify them.

Hey guys. I’m an out of state student, and fall semester I got a 3.8 and I should get around that spring semester. I had good letter of recommendations and essays. I applied to ugs and school of communication (advertising). Anyone know my chances?

Has anyone mystatus changed from complete to “in review”?

@acceptmeut. I am waiting for it. Do you have any idea if once the status changes to “In review” How much time should be wait for a decision?.

My application has been in review since the end of January, so it could be awhile… are you applying as a transfer or international?

With a 3.4-3.45 gap, what are my chances of getting into UT Cola or UGS?

As a transfer to natural sciences. although i studied as well some college credits at a foreign country. I hope it won’t mean that i will have to wait more than others. Are you a transfer too?

Yeah, I’m transferring from a community college… I think transfer decisions don’t start coming out until some time in April though  It’s such a long wait…

Yeah. now that you mention it, I was reading a thread of the last year, and most transfer were notified in the middle of April.

@mathguy1000 Your GPA is low for CNS, but you have plenty to boost your application as long as you emphasized them in your application.

I was in a rush to submit my application on the deadline, so I didn’t have time to look over my essay when I copy/pasted it into the application box, and when I did, AFTER submission, I saw that my italicized words translated into "?"s, so some words would look like: “?because?”. I feel really stupid and am worrying that it’ll bring my application down because it might translate into “why didn’t they take this application more seriously” etc etc. Thoughts?

Hey guys

I have a 3.8 GPA and I recently applied for Advertising and UGS.

I had good essays and letters of recommendation.

Anyone know my chances?
