2013 AP Latin Thread

Salvete, Latin students. I figured I'd start this thread, since we're halfway through the year already. Have any of you finished Caesar yet? My class definitely hasn't. We've actually started skipping lines just to keep up with the curriculum. It's not looking good.

I think AP Latin is probably the hardest AP class. The amount of material covered is just ridiculous. Does anyone have some good resources to share? I've found MIT Classics to be a great help with translations.

I'm really scared for this exam. I want a 4/5, but I just don't know if it will happen. I guess I'm hoping I get lucky on the FRQ section.

Bumping because AP Latin is hell right now. CC Latin students, unite! If anyone has any good Vergil resources, I’d love to see them. So far, I have:

vergil.classics.upenn.edu/vergil/index.php/document/index/document_id/1

[Latin texts with adjustable interlinear vocabulary: no dictionaries.](http://www.nodictionaries.com)

[The first six books of Vergil’s Aeneid: the original text reduced to the … - Virgil - Google Books](<a href=“The First Six Books of Vergil's Aeneid: The Original Text Reduced to the ... - Virgil - Google Books”>The First Six Books of Vergil's Aeneid: The Original Text Reduced to the ... - Virgil - Google Books)

If you’re still reading, what are your plans with regard to the AP exam? When do you plan to start studying?

Bump. AP exam in a few weeks.

going to fail so hard

Good Luck all! Im taking this next year and hoping for the best (although it does seem really difficult).

Finally! Well, I’m going to fail, too. I think I’m going to spend today just reading over English summaries of DBG and the Aeneid and studying my translations.

Our teacher sprung on us an unannounced practice test (just MC) last class, and I was shocked to get a 39/50. But I’m pretty sure it was a fluke because I had no idea what I was doing.

I’m so going to fail… Granted, I’ve been self studying for the past two years for this test so I’ve had a bit more time. At this point, I’m just going to read Caesar translations over and over again (so many stupid Gallic tribes)

Well, I’m glad people taking this test pretty much uniformly expect to fail. The curve will be great!

Planning on failing sight and trying to rack up points elsewhere haha
Good luck everyone!

I wouldn’t worry about tribes so much…for the Caesar because it’s so dense they only seem to focus on main ideas/events.

The Aeneid is significantly more challenging to read and understand IMO by nature of its being a poem.

I agree. I’m pretty good with DBG but generally pretty bad with the Aeneid. Ah, well. I think I’m just going to memorize vocab and read translations nonstop until Thursday.

Does anyone have any predictions for possible translation or short answer passages? Here are some of my teacher’s predictions:

Aeneid
Book I: 180-194, 494-519, 520-578
Book II: 40-56
Book IV: 259-294, 659-674
Book VI: ?.. Anyone have predictions here?

What about for Caesar?

Anyone have a good list of vocab to study? Maybe something online like quizlet? I think vocab is the hardest part for me in translating, as there are just so many words to know…

The test is tomorrow! -proceed to freak out- I have no idea what the short answer/translation passages are going to be… I think I’m just going to go over vocab, read translations, and practice sight passages nonstop. Here comes the final stretch!

lolll wait the ap is tomorrow. I was going to read over all my english translations to reinforce weird vocab words and such, but I think it’ll just stress me out even more. I’m just going to go over scanning rules and discuss main ideas of the Aeneid/Caesar with my friend. yoloing this - hopefully the curve will be good.

going to fail so hard…

Any predictions for Caesar anyone?

Predictions (especially for Caesar) are useless. We’ll see when we get the test.

I’m going to fail. :(

Well. That was fun.

General thoughts: MC was tough, as expected, but the two “seen” passages weren’t bad at all. Vergil translation was okay, but Caesar was terrible (our class skipped that section). The free response questions weren’t too bad (though I found Caesar a lot easier), and the essay was actually pretty easy. Hoping for a 4 or better (though it’s entirely a possibility that I did worse)!
