2013 Bioscience Admission and Interviews

I also applied UPenn, I applied BGS, CAMP. Don’t worry, I think you will definitely get in to your dream school.

But, what if I didn’t apply to UPenn and am not sure what my dream school is? What then?

I’m almost done with all my applications for January. Just have to polish up a couple SOPs and I’m ready to submit, and then I’ll be done for good. Honestly, I don’t expect to hear anything back from anywhere until January. This wait is absolutely killing me.

Hey, y’all! It’s about that time isn’t it? The jitters, the sleeplessness, the seemingly perpetual anticipation!

So, I’m guessing that Molecular Biosciences at UChicago is different from their Immunology programme, has anyone applies to their Biomedical Sciences Cluster? If so, has anyone heard anything yet? Thanks, guys!

I applied to the Biomedical cluster at UChicago, no word yet. That’s a reach school for me, so I don’t expect a quick reply back.

Good luck to you, of course!

Hey everyone, just a quick update:

Have interviews to Pitt IGBP, Penn CAMB, and Michigan PIBs. A quick rejection from Washington-Seattle perhaps related to my incomplete app at the deadline (tho it was just one rec and it was received by them on the 3rd, so perhaps not…). Waiting to hear from a few more…

W/ my somewhat middle-of-the-road stats hope this gives the rest of you hope. As I keep hearing, just about everyone gets in somewhere. I will continue to lurk on this great thread in the meantime.

I came across the following post today on gradcafe. To put the statement in context, the post was by an international Harvard Neuro applicant. It struck me as something that may interest a number of you.

@biophdhopefully, with a 3.98 GPA Im not sure why you think your stats are middle of the road…but congrats on the interviews!

@mathandbrains, fair point. But I didn’t go to a stellar research institution. For all anyone knows they just hand out A’s at my school. I didn’t see my GPA as helping my case all that much.

Speaking of stats, yours, nice!

Thanks for the congrats! Good luck!

Hey, ss2player! All the luck in the world to you, too! I don’t know about my chances. I’m getting my MS in May, and I currently attended a respected Midwestern state school, but, no publications. Yet, at any rate! So, we’ll see…

And ****, biophdhopefully, those are some great prospects. I didn’t know that PiBS at Michigan and UW-Seattle were already getting in touch with applicants. Huh. Maybe, the timeline is a bit different for international students (like me!).

At any rate, people, may the odds be ever in your favour!

So, the **** is actually O M F G

Haha! I cannot believe that I was just censored! :D

@Th2Cell, dunno about Michigan but a wave of early rejections is apparently the norm for Wash-so no news may be good news in your case. You might check the gradcafe results list for up to the minute info on who’s getting interviews etc. Good luck!

Oh, man! How am I ever going to get through this month?!

Got an interview invite for UChicago Biomedical Science Cluster (Microbiology) today.
Good luck!

Well done, sonofham! Congratulations! I haven’t had a missive from them yet, but no news is good news, I think.

Washington University in St. Louis interview invitation by phone.

What program, bespoke? And which specialty if DBBS? Congrats!

Just got my first interview offer by e-mail, UT:Austin biochemistry. I am completely overjoyed  :D

@BeakerBreaker DBBS, Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis. Good luck everyone!

After lurking I will contribute
GPA: 3.88 Biochem and Mol Bio
156V/157Q/4.5AW
Biochem/Cell/Molbio 78% overall
BC 62%/ Cell 68% / MolBio 85%
2.5 years research experience
One second author in press, another to be submitted by years end and two first authors to be submitted early next year.
Two stellar LORs and one good one.

Some pipe dreams on this list I’m sure but super excited about my first interview offer for Cornell biophysics Feb 7-10!
Good luck everyone!
