2013 Bioscience Admission and Interviews

Washington University in St. Louis interview!! My first interview invite!!!

@ss2player

maybe they will send out more tmr. they started today pretty late in the afternoon so it’s possible that they couldn’t finish all of them at once.

@sweetmuffin Congrats! Which interview date did you pick, and which program (within DBBS)?

Just got my first rejection, and it’s from UW-Seattle. Ah, well.

@princebear

I really hope you’re right. I’m just terrified my lack of focus 5 years ago as an undergrad junior torpedoed my chances now. If only I had a DeLorean with a flux capacitor…

@Th2Cell

There there…UWash is notorious for being strict like that. I applied but emailed the admissions director a month prior to make sure they wouldn’t just throw out my app when they saw my GPA. We’ll have to see if he was lying or not.

@Th2Cell

Too bad… but Good luck on your other applications. May I ask what program did you apply to in UW?

and Congrats to all others who got an interview!

@ss2player, you’re not alone… no invite for GSK for me either. I was a super-long shot and applied as a “why not, beside wasting $75”. Bummed but sort of saw it coming, I’m surprised you didn’t get one though, considering you’re published with a GSK lab. Now time to be anxious about my OTHER applications haha

Received a reject mail from Cornell BBS program (Immunol & Infect Dz track).
This was one of my top choices. Feeling down…

I think I’m going to pick Feb 1 interview date and I applied for Molecular Biology :).
I hope I’ll hear from other schools too.

@parafilm

Sorry for confusion, my PI used to work at GSK, now has own lab in Philadelphia, I’ve published under him there, not at GSK. But I mentioned some of the people he worked with in my SOP, so I figured that might be a little help.

@abyj85: Thank you for your well wishes! I applied to their immunology programme. I have one interview at the University of Tennessee lined up, and 8 more places to hear from, so a boy can still hope!

@ss2player: Dude/gurrl! If you haven’t had any news from them yet, then this is a good sign! I shall keep my fingers crossed for you! And for us all!

May the odds be ever in our favour.

abyj85: Cheer up, fellow grad-hopeful! I am sure there are others who are sending invites your way right now!

@Th2Cell: to be fair, I applied to the Pathology program which has a January 1st deadline, so they may not start reviewing until after that. I appreciate the well wishes though, we’re crossing all our appendages for each other!

P.S. - are you a Brit? Love your spelling. It’s tough out there for internationals, but you have one interview more than me at this point!

No, not a Brit, no. I did go to a snooty British school when I was and now, after 4 years in the Midwest, I have a strange mutt of an accent! And yes, it’s hard for international students, indeed, but, with “Numba 1” from the “Easy A” soundtrack on an endless loop, I shall attempt to keep my spirits up! :D

@Neuron17 Yeh! Just looked at your list of schools, almost entirely the same, lets hope we both get invites everywhere ;)

Congrats to everyone who got invites and good luck!

abj85: I got rejected from them too. If you don’t mind me asking what was your GRE and gpa like? Did you put down a second choice on the application? I put microbiology but haven’t heard anything from them.

Just got rejected from UW Immunology via email…sad indeed :’(

Would you like some hot chocolate, Sunny009? That’s how I’m consoling myself. :)

I’m stuck in a car in a snow storm somewhere in the middle of Illinois…I could use some hot chocolate! Thanks :)

That awful Storm Draco! Be safe, Sunny009!
