Got a call today, Duke pharmacology interview, February 7-9, 2013 or February 17-19, 2013! :)

Oh, don’t say that diamedic17! May acceptances abound and odds be ever in your favour!

I got an email from Tufts Neuroscience Program for the interview. It is on March 1st.

I am a bit surprised, because I thought invites were already sent out.

I am an international student with B.S. from an institution in USA.

@mochibunny
is it only for pharmacology? or is molecular cancer biology included too?

@neuroscientist1 - actually your invite makes more sense than the prior invites. On grad cafe, in the proceeding years, there was only one invite listed and it was on Jan 5. So you are still a day early!! :)

The Scripps Research Institute interview invitation. Biology track, La Jolla Campus.

@princebear: It’s the Pharmacology and Cancer Biology program.

Does anyone know the number of students accepted to The Scripps Research Institute CA campus?

nicenicencienceincie

@neurogirl85, I think Scripps accepts about 30 students per year. This is based on the current graduate student population size (~150), so I could be mistaken.

Has anyone heard back from any Chemistry Graduate programs?

@jpromair: Check the grad cafe results page: [Grad School Admissions Results for 2006–2012 • thegradcafe.com](Grad School Admissions Results for 2006–2023 • thegradcafe.com)

@mochibunny Congrats! See you there! Very excited about this :)

Is it time to break the usual “what should I expect during the interview?” conversation open…? :p

@greekbio: I would also like to know what to expect during interviews…

Also, does anybody know how many applications the top programs (i.e. MIT, Stanford, Harvard, etc…) usually receive? Thanks!

Interview weekends are generally quite a bit of fun.

Some activities that might take place:
Dinners with professors
Dinners with groups of current students
Parties hosted by current students
Housing tours where you see typical living accomodations for students in the program
Research talks given by students and/or professors
Tours of the surrounding city or its attractions
Departmental poster sessions
One-on-one lunches with current students
Dessert or cocktail receptions with professors and/or current students
Q&A sessions with administrators or students

And the unifying feature of all interview weekends is that you’ll have appointments to meet one-on-one with professors in the program. Sometimes you’ll choose the faculty, sometimes you’ll give a list of preferences and you’ll be matched as best they can, and sometimes you won’t get to choose. These meetings will generally last 30 minutes to an hour, and will take place in the professor’s office. You’ll get a chance to talk about your previous research experience and what you want to do in grad school, and the professor will talk about the research his/her lab does. You’re being evaluated in most cases, and the professors will provide a report about you to the admissions committee, but professors are also trying to recruit students to rotate in and join their labs.

Ooh! Interview weekends are super-fun! Just, y’know, don’t get super-hammered and/or hook up with someone lest you be remembered as The-Kid-Who-Knows-His-Way-Around-A-Pole or your nickname is now a Ke$ha song…

Has anyone got back from MIT BE? There is a couple of posts in gradcafe showing the invitations are on the way.

Wish I had found this site in November. I’m old as dirt, applied to a few schools a decade ago got interviews but not in anywhere. I decided I need to beef up resume then life happened… time to try again.

I posted this at gradcafe, but I’ll post it here to in case there are people that don’t read that forum. Has anyone heard from Harvard Systems Biology? There are two people who posted in the gradcafe results survey that they have received interviews. Looking at past results, it seems like the program has always sent their interviews out in one wave. Hopefully they haven’t sent out all of their interviews already.

Ok I tried calling and Emailing and they won’t reply so now I turn here. This is for anyone applying to the University of Illinois Chicago. Under the slot for unofficial transcripts it has a slot that says PS Transcripts Final 1. I got an email saying its missing and I should upload them but I have no idea what they are…
