Class of 2013 -
Just curious...how many college credits did you start your college career with? Where did you get them from (AP, community college, etc.)? How are they helping you? Can you do/take something now that you couldn't before? What advice would you offer 2014 with obtaining college credits before college? THANKS!

2! Haha. AP World History and honors speech. I was lazy…

Doesn’t seem to be helping me much. Like, at all. I doubt I would notice if I didn’t have those credits at all.

I’m starting college with 14 college credits for a 5 on Calc AB and a 4 on Phys B. At most other colleges I probably would have started with 30+ credits, but Stanford doesn’t give much AP credit. I just recommend taking the hardest courseload possible and doing as best as you can on your AP exams because you never know where you’re gonna end up for college. It never hurts having the choice to skip on a prereq or not.

32 credits. I basically scored 4’s and 5’s on all my AP tests.

Zip, zero, nada. I tended to treat high school like Peter from Office Space. Our school didn’t offer a crapload of AP classes until I almost graduated anyways. All the ones I would even be interested in came out after I had already taken the non-AP version of that class. The closest I got to an AP class was helping someone in APUSH some.

As for advice, know what you’re getting yourself into. If you can’t motivate yourself to even do basic class projects, don’t sign up for an AP class. For some, it isn’t that hard, but for many people I’ve seen go through an AP class, it’s a lot of hard work and effort.

32 (max transferable allowed at my school), from AP tests

I got 21 credits but will only use 9 since I’m doing pre-med.

25…mostly Freshman Gen Ed.

Four I think. I didn’t realize the importance of AP and honors classes until my senior year. If I could do it over I defnitiely would have tried to get harder classes into my schedule.

I’m not 2013. But, I started with almost 50. I got them through APs, CC and high school. They gave me high statute, which enabled me to pick my classes before most freshman, which is HUGE. DO IT.

I’m going in with 3 only because I failed a test and I have to take Intermediate Algebra either now or at my school in the spring when I should be taking stats…so I’m taking it now and will have 3 credits in the fall. But I didn’t take any AP classes or other college classes. I was going to, but then I decided I was too lazy.

Friends who didn’t get ahead in credits regret it. Between major and gen. eds, it’s so worth it. Take the credits before you go, even at a CC or something. Such a life-saver.

I’ll start with around 45 credits- 30 from APs and around 15 from a local college.

I have 48 plus the 10 I’ll do during the summer so I guess 58, but I have a class from UCSD that I have no clue how much credit I’ll get for that one. So over 58 YAY!!

I’m not 2013 but I started with 38.5

0! We don’t have any real APs at my school.

Maybe 21, if my class from a summer program transfers. The 19 are 4s and 5s on APs.

I think 78 units

You would get however many units that class was at UCSD

What are you going to do with all those credits???
Graduate early?
Take fun classes?
Go abroad???

My school only takes 2!
